A pit bull dog below in Wexford the latest episode of a child been savaged . Are these dogs suitable for pets .
PS The only people with Pitbulls or similar in our town are involved in drug dealing and or general criminality.

The difference is that most other dogs don't have the bad record of the pitbull.
As other poster said, English is not my first language, but can't see a sense in this.
They are the most abused breed because of the way they being kept and used by humans. You can ban them all you like but it won’t stop the problem because, sadly, we can’t regulate humans.
It doesn't really matter why they are the way they are. What matters is they are the most dangerous.
Again this bullshit.
Apologies, but can't help it.
That's exactly the problem.
You're expecting these scumbags to be responsible dog owners and follow the law when they buy these things explicitly to show that they don't give a f**k about other people.
You might as well be asking a dog not to chase cats as ask these cnuts to control their dogs. It's just not in their DNA.
So the only solution is get rid of the dogs. And increase the penalties for breeding and selling them to be meaningful deterrents.
That poor girl in England was killed by a pitbull - husky cross. Is that really a creature the world needed?
So are people who use the “what about the children” excuse. Populist and narrow minded
More and more ridiculous posts. Pile them up.
Poor thing.
Wasn’t this the family’s own dog? Apologies if I mixed up something here
I was in Connolly station earlier today. Older woman with a pit bull terrier there, and when I asked about a muzzle in public she told me it was none of my business. Not to mention any kind of dog that size isn't allowed in a train station or on a train.
Brought it to the attention of the contract security guard who said it's not his job, get in touch with management.
Might have been action taken if it was illegal to own one? They make no sense.
It's required to be muzzled in a public space, and not allowed in a train station or on a train. The least the security guard could have done is ask the woman if she could muzzle her dog, if not asking her to leave the station. But he just wanted to chat to forecourt staff instead of doing his job.
As said before. Pick up any stray dogs and short lead and muzzled if walking.
You are in denial. Earlier in this thread I quoted figures from the US showing the fact that they are involved in the greatest number of deaths and serious injuries per head of any dog.
Not so sure why I got this answer.. And if I remember correctly, you have read my opinion on leads and muzzles in public.
My bad. Apologies. Wrong person replied to.
Exactly. That's EXACTLY the problem. Their own dog in their own garden.
None of the excuses about dogs being loose or being unfamiliar with people apply here. The dog was dangerous.
The dog went crazy and grown adults couldn't bring it under control. When something needs armed police to shoot it, it's dangerous. End of.
That brings me back to my original comment. Own fault/ stupidity. You can’t prevent “tragedies” by banning things if people are be negligent.
It’s like blaming lack of signage when some brats down in a pond
Whatever you think. I'll happily live in my denial. There was dogs around me practically since I was born. Imagine that! And I'm still alive. My kids are still alive. Our dogs are alive ( well not all, some died cuz too old). And some were on your dangerous list too! And guess what, no fatalities ever. So quote your figures as much as you like. At the end you gonna realize, some people are the problem, not the dogs, or breeds.
Many would not agree. Many countries have banned them and by the way signage should be there at least if you mean 'drown'.
I did mean to write “drown” indeed, thank you.
I'll quote you 'I'll happily live in my denial'. Sums up your position.
Oh ok 😁
Bless you.
Which dogs would that be ? As i've said previously on this thread even trained police dogs that are restricted breeds have bitten children petting them. The last 2 fatal dog attacks in this country were due to negligence of guardians/parents. The Rottweilers in one case were owned by the family and the daschund x terrier cross was taken in by the boyfriend, it got into the house went up stairs and killed a 7month old girl. Will the people who were looking after both kids be serving prison time due to negligence, no they wont but if there's even suspicion a dog is a danger now after the A.Mizan incident the dog will probably be put down without the gardai investigating why an incident happen, dogs don't just randomly decide to grab a child for the craic and kill them, a lot of times the kid will be pestering the dog over time and dogs cant give a kid a punch in the head or tell them to f**k off apart from barking, some kids/parents don't see the warning signs until its too late. The last 2 attacks didn't involve pitbulls or so called drug dealers hanging around street corners and the assumption that these types of people actively train their dogs to attack randomers is farfetched too, the majority of the am bullies etc owned by these lot are used to launder/make easy money as are other breeds like exotic french bulldogs etc they're house pets, granted their breeding is for looks for the most part if these wanted highly trained REAL attack/protection dogs etc they'd not be buying bull breeds they'd be looking at breeds like Malinois, Dobermans etc, those bred and trained by professionals are not cheap don't tend to be marketed to the am bully drug dealer type owners. Have a look at some of the pet interaction videos of kids with their dogs and you'll see plenty of warning signs and thing that shouldn't be happening like kids riding on dogs backs, pulling their ears, tails, interrupting the dog sleeping or eating etc.
Whatever you say there remains the fact that pitbiulls are the most involved in deaths and serious injuries. No country need another extra dangerous breed of dog. No wonder they are banned in several countries and we should too.
Would banning them stop the last 2 deaths by dogs in this country NO it wouldn't and if you think banning ANYTHING solves an issues i'll sell you some magic beans or a goose that lays golden eggs lol. Look at the war on drugs, banning or high restrictions on guns have they stopped drug use or people being killed again NO they haven't. https://btoellner.typepad.com/kcdogblog/2011/07/denmark-breed-ban-is-failing-and-why-the-solution-is-not-more-banning.html This is from over 10 years ago. The dog that killed Natasha Johnston recently in the UK wasn't a pitbull either it was a Leonberger.
All what needs to be done is actually enforce existing rules around the dogs ownership. And try to educate people. There are so many resources online, to at least learn the basics. Yet peeps don't do it, check how shelters are doing in Ireland. Full!
You can ban as much as you want and it won't change anything... Said it before, it's only populist show of absolute incompetence.
Edit: For Former Former Former..would this English do?
Just to point out the obvious and to most it doesn't need pointing out. US stats..
It doesn't matter if your 'Pittie' wouldn't hurt a fly the stats are clear.
No banning can't bring people back from the dead but it would stop more. Banning guns has reduced those killed not sure where you got that from.
Very high death to attack ratio even compared to Rottweilers.
