If the government called a general election tonight who would you vote for from the list below?
FF
FG
Greens
SF
Labour
SD
PBP
Independents
Threadbans
Skimpydoo
Wouldn't get my hopes up about such a group of messiahs emerging in time for the next election, which latest reports suggest might be only a year and a half away...
You can see the much the same thing with the "cult of the leader" thing in FF and Labour. Once the mediocre get into a position of power, they appoint those who will be no threat to them. Like a fish rotting from the head down, it begins to destroy a party.
Regards...jmcc
Also beware of the "mainstream media is hiding the truth" cohort. They voted for Trump.
Very few Irish voters voted for Trump because very few Irish voters are eligible to vote in US elections.
Probably SF as the major coalition partner. I'm lucky, being a home owner, but the number 1 issue anong the younger team I manage in work is housing.
Anyone in their 20s & 30s I talk to are voting SF because of this
I can understand that. I was lucky (now late 30s) I was able to buy property (mortgages) nothing too fancy. If you’re single and not on a strong salary it must be very hard. Taxes still way too high but supply is the real issue.
I hate to break it to these people but SF aren’t going to solve anything. Likely make things worse tbh
Well I’m Irish and couldn’t vote for trump. Wouldn’t anyhow as I can’t stand him. But anyone that thinks the media and the political/NGO elite aren’t in lockstep are deluded
The innocence of it
How would an Irish Trump fare ?
If a very wealthy Irish person insinuated their way into an existing party or funded a new party would they get votes.
Pick your wealthy person (excluding Declan Ganley).
Wealthy Irish people are too cute to fall for that.... They made their money by pulling the strings of the stooges we vote in.
Your man Casey that ran for President a few years ago was a woeful candidate but got over 20% of the vote up against a concerted media/political campaign against him. If someone articulate and accomplished stepped up they’d sweep up I reckon
Think, just hand over the reigns to the EU at this stage and cut out the middle men.
Or maybe start a union with some country that can do long term thinking..
FFG is like having a badge for the Beano or Dandy club at this stage. Something that was fun as a child 40 years ago, but at some stage you have to give up on childish, repetitive, unproductive things. 😂
Given the "Trump Era" ended in armed insurrection, deaths and multiple incarcerations including maybe him.
I'd suggest not very well.
I think we already tried that union thing and it didn't end well.
FG down again in the polls as are SF- you’d imagine they’d be making hay with such a bad government at the moment
The effect of the revelations hasn't really set in yet. A movement within the Margin of Error (+/- 2.9%) isn't much but when it is outside the MoE, as FG's loss is (barely) then it is more believable. The other questions in that poll (lower down in the article) seems to be trying to cheerlead for FFG. The order in which the polling questions were asked would be interesting.
After what came out today and what may come out in tomorrows papers the future polling for FF and FG will be worse.
The current govt attempt to solve the housing crisis is abysmal. The crisis started in the mid 2000s and it's worse and worse each year.
They seem dead set against lowering house prices, which is the main obstacle. Every policy puts more money into the buyer pocket rather than tackling the prices at source. Suppose it keeps the Stamp duty revenues high.
the absolute worst thing here is. WE may get FFG again. SF will be the biggest party, but as we see, FFG have a core vote, no matter how **** their governance. Mass spoiling of votes, is the obvious strategy to show the parties that there is large dissatisfaction with them and their policies on offer...
We may get them again especially on the numbers at the moment. There won't be a change until FF and FG stop codding the electorate by pretending to be separate parties when they are basically the same or if SF can win 70 odd seats and be able to form a government with one of the smaller parties.
Hopefully when there is an election we do see the likes of Varadkar, Martin, Harris, McEntee and few other big names lose seats. It would be interesting to see which seats are under threat.
Spoiling votes is not a strategy. The most terrifying words that a politician can hear are "I am not voting for you".
Simply vote for non-FFG candidates. If enough people do not vote for FFG candidates then they will not get elected. Without enough FFG candidates being elected, FFG will not have enough TDs to form a government.
Get Mickey O Leary in there. He'd sort out the dross that's clogging up the HSE for a start.
I often wondered where all the spolied ballots come from.
Why can't we have a poll on this thread or get someone to start a new thread with one?
Sinn Féin have been abliterated in working class areas with the recent introduction of 'newcomers' and their silence on the subject, a complete master class in how to take out your opposition, whoever in government came up with the idea will be given a nice bonus.
Eh Labour haven’t been in Government for seven years, just ICYMI.
Peter Casey disproves your point about Peter Casey.
He did run in the general election. He ended with only a handful more votes than the crazy far right extremist McConnell.
This strategy does nothing to address the issue that the other candidates are crap. Another party may form if they saw the large backlash and opening for one. A dissatisfied ex fg voter, doesnt want to vote for a left wing alphabet soup independent or party. That's the problem, its all that we have on offer..
We had those parties- the PDs, Renua.
They failed at the ballot boxes and disappeared up their own arses.
Its not legal
