The Bat Signal!
Not that I usually need much reason to avoid this turgid excuse for a show, but Eurovision adds to it.
Couldn't even be bothered watching to see if John Lydon embarrasses Tubs.
Here's the 6 tunes...
Song No.1: Too Good for Your Love
Performer: ADGY
Song No.2: Midnight Summer Night
Performer: CONNOLLY
Song No.3: We Are One
Performers: Wild Youth
Song No.4: Wild
Performer: Leila Jane
Song No.5: Down in the Rain
Performers: K Muni & ND (Kofi Appiah and Nevlonne Dampare)
Song No.6: Hawaii
Performers: Public Image Limited
Any chance of Johnny Logan cameo or will it the other wan.
Thanks for the rundown in one place!
All of the songs will be nowhere near winning it of course but for qualification the only ones I can see having the slimmest of chances are song 4 and 5 both of which require a radical overhaul (they ALL do) with Rotten an outside chance only due to recognition in the parts of Europe that are allowed vote in Ireland's semi and that's a very outside chance.
PS I hate the 2023 logo.
I think Hawaii needs a wee Daniel O Donnell cameo so book em Danno or Tubs
Regardless of whether or not PiL are chosen to represent Ireland tonight, just an excuse to post this truly magnificent record!
May the road rise with you. :)
Is there any point in having this charade of a national song contest (Eurosong)? Clearly PIL are going to win at a canter (beautiful song). Might have a decent shot at the Eurovision too.... unless they get f*cked over by the real politik of what Eurovision now is.
Maybe this was a year where they should have picked PIL as artist given their profile, and had a song selection contest.
I like the PIL song, but I worry it's missing a bit of oomph for the Eurovision circus.
I don't think it's the shoo-in to win, anything could happen on the night.

That song won't get anywhere at the Eurovision. Out in the semi again. I think the issue is getting old people who watch the Late Late to pick the song.
Johnny Rotten needs to go back about 40 years to a time when he was relevant. The last thing Ireland needs is an aging, irrelevant bloke who isn't even Irish. Boring song.
I don't see any winners on show tonight. The pop lads Wikd Youth might get to the final. I doubt anyone of the others would even get out ofthe semi.
Don't tell me John Lydon is any less relevant that some no-mark kid you never heard of.
I just heard the song for the first time, I think its really good, sounds like Sam Fender or Foals or some such.
And I just heard him speak about his wife's illness, God but he loves that woman more than oxygen. And that matters.
I think he'll win the qualification and I think his story will catch fire (his wife Nora with Alzheimers is German too) and I think in these strange times in the World, where all a lot people have left is love, that he'll do pretty well at the Eurovision.
Of course the bloke I've never heard of is more relevant. He's just unheard of. Everybody knows Lydon and he's irrelevant which is worse than unknown.
Song is meh even if the sentiment is lovely. It has no energy and would be swallowed up by a huge eurovision stage. Might be voted in by the late late viewers. Won't do anything at the event if it gets there.
You might be surprised.
Don't forget, this is a wartime Eurovision, it's only in Liverpool because of it. Could be a lot of mawkish enough ballads, just as there were last year. Lydon will do well in that company. As well as with the continental punks, of which there were millions.
Ah, I imagine flo rida was hoping for aome kind of sentimental vote for him last year too. He was embarrassed. It should be embarrassing when you try to buy in a famous foreigner to represent your country and they fall flat. Eurovision is fun and about not taking yourself too seriously. Johnny Rotten isn't fun. His whole brand is sarcastic and combative. It's a million miles from Eurovision. And he's not even Irish.
I can't see any reason to want him representing Ireland.
My virtual money is on John Lyndon going through.
Hope the Connolly lady does a good performance - best song in it.
Ukraine for the win for next few years?
Can we add a poll to the thread?
John Lydon is Irish.
100%
Mother from Cork father from Galway
I hope we get Linda Martin and Billy McGuinness round 2
What about John Lydon though ?
(sorry, couldn’t resist 🤪)
He’s a plastic paddy and even worse, it’s a boring, unremarkable and stale song
At least he's not made of plastic...
Bonsoir, my liddle European chooms!
Anybody know how to add a poll to this thread? Link?
Plastic Paddy is just a common jibe.
An Irishman born in London is still an Irishman.
Oh you got me there 🙂
Nah. V different society and culture there
If the other small countries feel the same about hosting as Ireland does, then lots of them would be happy to let Ukraine host it in their place. Whenever the war ends and if Ukraine is still in control of Kiev, they might want to host. It would be a decent good news story.
Oh right. I thought he was born and bred in England.
Where was he born and live his life?
PIL ftw. But the live performance of a difficult song will tell, amongst the noise of more modern sounding youth. There is a lot of late money going on them. Who knows?
