Mary McAleese keeps popping her head up.....and I keep coming back to this thread.
The Writer Edna O'Brien.
No reason for it on her behalf, I've never even read any of her books.
But I can't stand her due to the ridiculous obsession a lot of media in this country have with her .In particular the Sunday Independent and the fact that they seemed to in awe of in her supposedly wild personal life in swinging 60's London and how apparently she had affairs with famous men. When in reality her personal life was almost certainly extremely mundane and uninteresting yet the papers felt the need to try and turn her into some sort of Irish "It girl".
Spot on….shower of kernts.

Oliver Peyton
Her personal life was pretty wild for your typical Irish woman of the 1960's. Shes an interesting character and as far as I know the last major living Irish writer to be directly affected by the stringent censorship that was in place here till about the mid 60's.
I can't be arsed checking his name, but flicking through The Six O'Clock Show on Virgin One, the bloke that appears to be the resident male host. Blandness personified. And appears to fancy himself a bit.
Wilder than Bridget?

More examples of "inexplicably" can't stand, please :)
Anyway, I just thought of another one. James McAvoy.
I like the movies he's in, but just do not like him. Don't know why.
It’s not inexplicable, but Jordan Peterson. A charlatan and a grifter selling snake oil solutions to stupid young men.
Last one should be Michael McIntyre
What a shock, Emmet Spiceland thanked that post 😀
His self help book 12 Rules for Life is very good, filled with sensible advice and has helped a lot of men in particular.
Make your bed, brush your teeth, and try and aim for a good posture. Profound advice.
In fairness, the advice to pet a cat you encounter on the street isn't bad and might calm down some of his extremely angry disciples.
Peterson talks a lot of unambiguous common sense. A fair and very educated individual . Wouldn’t agree with everything but keeps it simple and happily challenges an in an absolutely intellectually erudite manner destroys modern stupid concepts like the cancer that is wokeness….
I liked him before he got twitter banned and turned into a toddler. His true colours came out after that he got extremely bitter.
He's really pushing the religious stuff now and was praising the royals. Anti climate change and saying the Russians should be appeased that's where he really made me sick.
On top of it all he has a very old fashioned idea of a woman's role and how she should conduct herself. His own daughter couldn't have been the more opposite of that after legging off with Andrew fcuking Tate while Jordan was very ill in hospital.
They are the Canadian Burke family a shower of pontificating grifters that throw a tantrum when told to shut up and leave us alone.
I don’t think he said Russia should be appeased or if he did I didn’t hear it and I can’t find it. What he does say, in his opinion is quite grave…. is that it’s naive to believe Russia can / will be defeated..
anyway we are way off topic
Ok, I’ve seen that interview that most of those quotes are taken from. It’s on CNN with Piers Morgan. available on YouTube…He’s doesn’t actually advocate appeasing him from memory I’ve just scanned it again and the mantra is that he can’t be beaten... it’s a worthwhile watch.
He's pushing the Kremlin propaganda which is appeasing if you think about it. Jesus everyone can plainly see the Russian military is a complete joke yet he claims they're unbeatable. Him Roger Waters and Elon Musk showed themselves up to be spoofers.
I think that sums JBP up. He’s a severely mentally ill pseudo-intellectual bully.

Callans material is below average but his impressions are way more accurate than Rosenstocks
An important core belief for all decent progressives
I think Jorden Peterson puts some decent intellectual discussion on the mass market Internet. He makes people stop and think. Which is a very good thing. We need more debate like this. It's healthy.
People get angry when they have to think and make moral, long term decisions in the interest of the whole rather than the self. Society needs to unlearn this bad habit.
Unfortunately, social media, business,. government does not want people to think, just consume. Our national broadcaster facilitate this for example. Completely partial, never says or does anything to rock the boat or question power.
So, that's why Jorden Peterson et al crop up, to fill a massive void.
Peterson says little that wasn’t vanilla mainstream ten years ago, it’s just the Overton window has shifted so radically left within the sociological debate space that he is branded a heretic
One that came up recently after a long time away.....Marcus Sweeney
