Even if they had mortgage protection, which is questionable, and even if they hadn't forgotten to keep paying the premiums, which often happens.
the mortgage protection is normally in joint names and if one party dies, the mortgage is paid off.
*Edited to reflect me being a dumbass.
That's not true, a couple are essentially taking out life insurance for the full value of the mortgage that will clear the outstanding balance when one partner dies.
The difference with mortgage protection is that is paid directly to the lender to clear the mortgage, it's not payable directly to the surviving partner.

Link for info on mortgage protection insurance, it won't embed for some reason.
you have that all wrong.
Something seriously gone wrong with this estate, from a glimpse of the house next door:
The google streetview is from 2009 and it looks very respectable. something seriously gone wrong in the estate. westmeath coco even mentioned it in a meeting
Island living sounds romantic but ..
I'm terms of Island living Tory is very remote. The ferry often does not run for 7 days or more due to weather, and as the ferry is based ashore the first trip off Island to mainland is quite late in the day. There is only 2 trees on the Island. (For a reason). Other Islands people can get ferry to mainland schools or jobs ashore.
Locals can get a funded helicopter ashore every second Wednesday (last I heard) and helicopter brought staff nurses on and off Island as ferry it too unreliable in stormy weather's.
Even if you have your own helicopter most choppers can only fly when visibility is good and when wind is not too bad so you can still be stranded.
Other Islands there was talk of helicopter being removed and cheaper runway based aircraft being used.
In terms of food and fuel most people have plenty of stores and you can freeze milk etc. You can often telephone in food orders which arrive by ferry. There is a diesel generator for mains electricity as there is no power cable to mainland.
Even to visit in the summer it's a challenge. Hotel is closed in winter.
Fair enough, it used to be the case, Guess the insurance cos have been dragged into line. will amend the original post.
Pity that the map link in the ad is about 5 miles away from the actual house!

The cynic in me wonders are they trying to make it look like it's on a quiet road - and to hide the fact that there's a busy farmyard directly behind it.
I'm not sure when you are talking about but in 1998 when I took out my first mortgage the mortgage protection insurance covered the full amount of the mortgage.
It seems highly unlikely when traditionally one partner worked and the other was a homemaker, I've certainly never heard of it.
It would be pointless paying for it in many cases, a partner who didn't work outside the home would have as much chance paying half the mortgage as they would the full amount.
The whole point of it is to ensure the lender recoups the outstanding balance and the surviving partner doesn't lose their home.
Good work. Local knowledge!
A house with boarded windows and graffiti on them is a sure signe that it is a lively estate.
I’ve actually been in both houses 😂. The one on Drum Rd (not the one for sale) was where a school friend lived (30+ years ago now!).
The one for sale I was last in maybe 12/13 years ago, before it was renovated. I can remember being in it when Cissie Macs was still open next door to it - that’s a long time closed now
I'm also pretty sure it would require all new window frames too, those metal covers are usually just drilled in through the window frames. Not sure if you could plug them...
Interesting they've also included a walk through video so you can get a first person view of the horror the lies within.
NO tv so just bits of holiday items etc.
Very cold and clinical
Even the video is very Blair Witch-esque 😀
i have seen new builds with less effort put into the presentation, but not many and not at this price point
deleted, 'cos I'm a spanner ..
The website page keeps refreshing after a few seconds and says property cannot be found?
Looks like they couldn't wait till it was finished to market it, so had to do it virtual.
They got 5 detached houses on just over half an acre;
The link of my original post isn't working but some might remember the sunken sofa. The house was sold for 3 million! 1 million over the asking price
Rich people and their bidding wars. I thought it was overpriced at 2 mil.
This one?
Nice house but definitely not worth €3M.
COME TO TAZ-MANIA!
COME TO TAZ-MANIA!!
