Cant you say that same thing about western tanks then? What good is 30 or 40 leopard 2s if a man with ATGM can block a road?
nonsense argument
They do have modern anti tank weapons unfortunately
The kornet family of anti tank weapons are extremely effective, just ask the Israelis who faced them during the last war with hamas over a few days , they have twice the effective range of a javelin
Russian Army Headed by 'Totally Incompetent People,' Ex-Russian VP Warns (newsweek.com)
I read somewhere that 1000 Russians died in Afghanistan from accidents. What's the number for Ukraine, I wonder?
The Russian ATGM are a two man unit. Neither are fire and forget, they have to be guided onto the target. This is a much more dangerous task that using a Javelin where it's a one man operation you aim it at the target and fires it. Now two things first as the operator can drop the empty tube and get out of there, secondly the Javelin targets the top of the tank where it is most vulnerable as the armour is lightest. As well Russian tanks were vulnerable to LAWS which would bounce off modern NATO tanks NATO tanks while not completely invulnerable to ATGM would still stay going even after a few hits unless the tracks were damaged
Why does Russia waste so much ammunition shelling Kherson? Would this not be better off used in the Donbass?
They are very deadly for sure,if you get a side shot or rear shot, from the front most western tanks will be immune, except for maybe leopard2a4.
Only thing is its weight,64 kg combat weight,so its not very mobile,it will be more like the US TOW system or Ukrainan stugna P.
US Javelin and NLAW are more mobile
Its range however outranges most western atgms, even TOW2b with its 5.5 km,and Kornet E with 8 km
So artillery combined with drone surveillance and using smoke screens will be the only cure i guess in manuever warfare.
Then again with Ukraines and Donbas regions hills and forests,i guess they wont get the max range anyway to their advantage.
I found this a very informative piece on Transnistria:
I had assumed that the Moldovans would in general see what happened to Ukraine via an Orc enclave and so would have enough smarts to be rid of theirs, but apparently not. Complacency can be a terrible thing. With the political problem of 15% of the population Orc likers, it seems no government there can rock that boat; I'd imagine not a few politicians there would publically tsk, tsk, if Ukraine sorted it for them, but in private would be, thank you, thank you, because then they could attempt to join the EU. If anyplace in Europe needs EU funding to improve their lot, it's Moldova. In terms of their financial capacity and resources, they have done more for Ukraianian refugees than any other.
..
I watched the first episode of Putin & the West & one thing stood out. Everyone, even former PMs said that he is a liar & that they take this into account. So he has become impossible to trust.
The ability to deceive is embedded into him. One documentary I watched essentially described a KGB opperative crossing those skills over into politics, at times for better but most often worse.
Typical Russian tactics, always play the victim, while they continue breaking every rule and law in the book themselves
Whats dangerous about that mindset,is the fact that he used to be former KGB agent, trained to kill and sacrifice himself if needed to save his country.
That not something you want in politics
This is why I roll my eyes into the back of my head every time I hear the media raise the topic of peace talks.
Looking to Ukraine to be the one to compromise. How about you give your own lawn to Putin first?
Or indeed any of our newly registered users urging for peace. Put aside the fact that the negotiations don't have a common ground with the annexations from Russias side and Ukrainians rightfully wanting its country back.
We know, KNOW. That Putin is a liar. So what use is any sort of negotiated peace with him? No. The Russians must be beaten back out of the country or shown that staying on Ukrainian land is militarily unfeasible. Then once they leave the sanctions must stay in place until Putins regime(and all those responsible) are replaced with a more reasonable and trustworthy governing body. Anything short of this is kicking the can down the road.
How likely is this to happen? I've no idea. But I'd love to hear an alternative that would actually lead to lasting peace in Europe..
RU offensive around Kremina seems to be picking up momentum.
Putin might have a point, even our cats are turning Nazi....
And it's successor is the main apparatus of power (and fear) in the country.
Wagners claim to have occupied most of Krasna Hora, and have a foothold in South-East Paraskoviivka
Paraskoviivka is last town between RU and Slovyansk-Bakhmut motorway
It's one thing knowing that Putin is a liar but it's something else to hear senior politicians stating it openly.
It’s all part of Ukraines plan apparently….
I would say because Russians on the opposite side of Dnipro have ammo, but nothing to shoot at. So they shoot it into Kherson. They cannot just give it away to be used in Donbass -- what if Ukrainians attack across the river? They cannot store the ammo in huge dumps either -- a satellite or a local will make it known to Ukrainians and the ammo will go up in smoke.
If pro russian sources are saying it ,
It must be true 😜
Not even the dead are immune from an orc attack it seems.
Front-line soldier in Bakhmut,in good spirits despite the danger.
I agree with her sentiment - it is fundamentally evil what Russia are trying to do to Ukraine and its citizens, and if Ukraine had every modern weapon at its disposal to repel Russia, it would not be unjustified.
The reason why Ukraine getting weapons from the West is referred to as an escalation, though, is because the West supplying weapons to Russia directly raises tensions between those two entities, and the potentially civilisation-ending consequences of a direct, prolonged conflict between these has been gone through far more than once.
That's obviously not to say that Ukraine should not get weapons, but Western strategy appears to be to bleed the Russian beast until it dies a quiet death rather than subject it to too sudden a humiliating setback which forces Putin into desperation.
Thats because most of Wagner groups convicts are erased, wounded or have run away, and are now being reinforced by elite units of the VDV airborne troops.
Ukraine are just doing as they did before, letting Russia attack, cause heavy casualties, fall back and repeat.
Ukraine is buying time for their main offensive and building up their reserves of trained troops arriving from Europe together with newly arrived equipment.
Overlooked this for a long time, but handy list of all equipment sent (and pending) to Ukraine
550+ tanks (around 200 of which are pending delivery)
When you send people to prison or throw them out of windows for saying no, everyone's a yes man.
