This is about him thinking he's above the law and not subject to court orders and court decisions.

Furthermore, there has been no report of any child trying to magically turn from a man intro a woman. So what relgious belief has it challenged?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Enoch Burke's religious belief for starters. Which, objectionable as it is, is a valid religious belief.

And I'll agree with you about him thinking he's above the law and not subject to court orders and court decisions. He's certainly wrong on that front.

Hmm you talk about respect for students then disrespectfully judge them, accuse them of ulterior motives and abusing systems. 🙄

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Yes, and everything that is going on with him at least as it regards the school and the courts, is because of his actions. Not his beliefs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,867 ✭✭✭✭BattleCorp

Look back at all my posts. I've regularly said that.

I'm not one of the thicks who think Burke is in trouble for his beliefs. I know full well he's in trouble for his actions at the function and then his refusal to adhere to his suspension and the high court injunction. The point I was making was in relation to the statement below. While not the cause of Burke's tribulations, I was talking about religious beliefs, in general. And Burke indeed doesn't believe in someone being Transgender and he clearly thinks his religion says the same.

Furthermore, there has been no report of any child trying to magically turn from a man intro a woman. So what relgious belief has it challenged?

This makes no sense. Religion is nothing to do with anything that has been in court cases.

It seems that the media is getting bored of The Enoch show, which is good news.

Just a quick look around the main Irish news sites - RTE , Independent , Examiner, Journal.ie and Breakingnews.ie.

Enoch does not feature on any of the homepages or on the "news" sub section.

    He's just boring now.

    Unless he tries something new/different.

"Sad man stands outside school every day" isn't news worthy for very long thankfully.

In an employed environment the rules are already written so I personally never have any problems there, every abides by the rulez, bullying into beliefs is generally frowned upon. On the other hand, outside of such an environment where each individual has their own rules, which again is fine, until they propose to push them on others, such ideas as the abolishment of motorised traffic and enforced pronouns belong in the imagination of the originating head, and there alone.

    No, don't be a teacher.

Well, I replied as I did because in the post that I quoted you literally posted this: "What makes you think it's not about his beliefs?"

It isn't about his beliefs. He really wants it to be about his beliefs, but it isn't. It is about his actions.

As to his beliefs, yes I am aware that he either doesn't know or doesn't care about the science involved. He only cares about his religion, as filtered through his parents and his upbringing. And forcing that religion on everyone he comes into contact with, because he is right and everyone that doesn't agree with him is wrong.

Yup. Much like it pretty much disappeared for most of the time he was in jail. Once things settled in the only time he got back into the news was when something would happen. But outside that he just disappeared. As he should.

Its actually quite cowardly of him to hide behind his religious beliefs. He should just own the fact that he doesn't accept transgenderism, though he's smart enough to know that won't fly.

What beliefs - as in what specific belief that he has that has been the issue? Not who's beliefs.

Because I don't think Enoch himself as ever specified that.

And - again - if there is a conflict between your beliefs and you work, you are NOT forced to work. Enoch wasn't. We all have differences of opinion with our employers from time to time - we can't just whinge about it infrigining our beleifs and play the victim.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

And hear to that. For too long we were downtrodden by preachers ,clerics and religious hocus pocus. Poor misfortunates were made get on their knees and beg for forgiveness. Forgiveness for what? And despite all the expressions of outrage at the raping and abusing their priests were getting up to, not one of them had the balls to resign in protest. As for burke, its mind boggling that an educated, history teacher no less, still believes in this evangelical horseshit.

They probably just drive by to see now, and keep going.

But don't worry, the family will do something chronically dumb soon and be back in the news soon.

I'd love to see mammy b, or whoever in the family is deemed the most knowledgeable go head to head in a tv debate with a confirmed atheist like Vincent Browne or even Michael D. But rte don't do serious TV. Much safer to wheel out Daniel or Dermot Bannon!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,459 ✭✭✭Rigsby

Those kind of debates can be interesting but only if both sides are willing and able to take on board their opposer's view. Generally it is the religious participant who goes in with a fixed view and has no intention of being "converted", no matter how strong the opposing argument.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,098 ✭✭✭chooseusername

Vincent Browne maybe, but Michael D wouldn't get a word in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,322 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

It would bea debate so he'd have plenty of time to get his words in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,867 ✭✭✭✭BattleCorp

I think he has been quite clear that he doesn't accept transgenderism.

“Will you shut up Enoch. Shut up. Just shut up.”

I said it a while ago in the thread but I’d love to see vinB go after them. He’d send them running off the set crying flat.

The Burkes don’t understand the concept of debate the preferred approach to anything like that is just yell louder than the opposer.

They are not going to debate anyone because as far as their concerned if you don’t agree with them you’re wrong it’s that simple. You can’t debate someone if you’re completely unwilling to look at their side of things and try to understand it in order to argue why your POV is better but the Burkes have made it clear numerous times that they will not understand any other opinion than their own. Now of course they are capable of doing so as they’re not stupid people but they are too ignorant.

I mean you are effectively expecting the same crowd who wanted a case for unfair dismissal only to have their case dismissed at hearing when they wouldn’t stop shouting over the adjudicator. Or who went to an inquest of a person with no relation whatsoever to them only to cause such commotion over covid vaccines that the family of the young lady who died broke down in tears.

They simply cannot spare a thought for anyone else especially when they have an opinion they want heard. When you get down to brass tacks, you can’t talk to the Burkes about any opposing viewpoint because all you’ll be met with in return is incoherent shouting. Debate? It wouldn’t be a debate it would be the Burkes shouting and VinB telling them to just shut up.

Honestly it’s almost a tactic in itself just be so obtuse, obnoxious & loud that the person who is opposed to whatever you’re for is just fed up trying to speak to you and just wanders off. Then the Burke(s) in question feel like they are still right and no one can be arsed to deal with the noise.

They just shout and yell when the desired outcome isn’t achieved that they’re being discriminated or attacked because of their religious beliefs and either no one bothers to correct them and the ones that do just give up wasting the effort.

Winning a debate with a Burke is coming away from it having not tried to kill someone.

In my opinion it is impossible (no matter who you get) to debate religion with people like Burke when they hold such entrenched views.

EDIT: Magnolia Hissing Youth, looks like you beat me to it.
