Once Sainsburys bought Argos about two years ago, it went downhill, all the shops and online trade in Ireland is closing. Hopefully something else will move in and maybe save some of the jobs lost.
Another closure last week - The Greyhound pub opposite the barracks, that was a surprise, thought they were doing ok.
Walked through town around 4:30 on Saturday and I see all the local scumbags (Ladies & Gents) were out in force roaring and screaming up and down Hopkins Lane, not a bother to them, with people trying to pass down the lane and of course no sign of the Gardai.
Greyhound was doing well but I think the owner sees that easier money can be made elsewhere and already owns a pub in town……
Apartments apparently
Yes, same as the Sows Ear next door
Place is only used for selling Christmas trees now a few weeks of the year.
Today in Clonmel, four individuals working as a group entered a sports shop in town, took 31 items to the value of €2060 and left the shop having concealed the items. Following a search by the Clonmel Regular Unit members, the suspects were located close by making efforts to leave Clonmel undetected with all of the stolen property. They were all arrested, detained and interviewed and have now been charged to court. The stolen property was recovered and has been returned to the owner.

Anybody know more about this ?
Anybody working for Abbott Clonmel? Would be interested in asking a few questions
What would you like to know?
Just wondering what the shift pattern is like there?
Generally half 7 to 4 on days and 4 to 1 on evenings (give or take a half hour depending on what area you're in) there's also a weekend shift in an area that works 3 13 hour shifts Friday to Sunday.
2 cycle shift.
7. 30am to 4pm.
4pm to 1am or 2am depending on the area.
Like any job, has its ups and downs. If you're thinking of applying or have been offered a job, my advice is be on time, be polite to everyone. Don't get involved with the politics of the place. To listen to some people you'd swear it was a sweatshop. Be prepared to stand for your shift if that's what's required. They're not a fan of people being out sick. Target is king, but it's a business. It's obviously target driven. Follow your procedures.
It's decent money, hours are regular. There are benefits, 80% healthcare paid, pension, subsidised canteen.
I like it. Others hate it. Make up your own mind.
I don't know any more than what was reported in the media but reading between the lines I wonder were they serial offenders and/or people who often travel to Clonmel from other areas to rob shops and were the guards waiting for them.
Great work by the guards but I doubt the perpetrators are too worried about the repercussions.
Thanks, are the shifts Monday to Friday, then? Do you change and do earlier (07.30-16:00) for a few weeks and then do lates (16:00-01:00) for another few weeks or are you stuck on the same shift all the time?
Week of days, week of nights.
Also weekend shift in one area currently, 3 x 13 hrs. Wouldn't be for me, but suits some people.
If you don't already live locally, just be aware of chronic housing shortage!
Good point also.
People do travel everyday for work in Abbott, but if you were thinking of moving to Clonmel, lack of rental properties is a major problem.
It's a **** hole... stay away from it
Must have been easy to spot them carring that much stuff.
Is this Clonmel or Abbott you're referring to?
Does anyone know if the cobbler is still on Clonmel?
I have business in Clonmel next week and need shoes repaired, I am rarely in Clonmel so I don't know if they are still in the town.
The phone number from online seems disconnected.
Does anyone have a number/email please.
If you mean the cobbler in Mary St he was still there as of last week.
(052) 612 8604
Martin Coen on Mary St.
I don't know if this is the number you were trying but it's the only place I know in Clonmel.
It could apply to both...
It was, no joy.
if anyone else knows how to contact him, be great.
I want to check if he can do what I'm looking for. Failing that I'll just drop in.
Thanks
Might be some bargains!
Mrs CML387 got a great bargain in Guiney's last year with BearMinerals make up which was old Evans stock at a vastly reduced price.
Where are you from yourself?
Well, I disagree about Abbott. As I said in my previous post, every job has it's ups and downs. I've worked there for a long time and I enjoy it. Have I had bad experiences/bad days/bad bosses? Yes. That would be the case in any workplace. But on the whole, I think it's a decent place to work. But as I've said, I would let people make up their own minds.
Abbott is a target driven workplace like most which some find hard & leave.
My own opinion is go to work for 8 hrs, zone out have a chat at breaks and go live your life with wages earned. Some folk expect to find second families or be treat like gods in the workplace, this isn't real life.
Work to live not live to work.
I would agree with this. I think people can get too caught up in the politics of the place. At the end of the day, you'll be paid the same at the end of your 2 weeks whether you stress yourself out or not.
