Why would you think that anyone in the same circumstances would be treated any differently? I'm pretty sure anyone who violated a court order to not go to a school they had been suspended from would be treated the same way. The only reason Burke was in jail for as long as he was was because he refused to agree to stop going to the school he had no business attending in the first place. His religion has nothing to do with it.

There are strict, Muslim majority countries that accept transitioning, and it isn't claimed to be outright against the religion the same way people claim its outright against Christianity.

Have I missed anything? The situation with Ammi Burke has nothing to do with religion as far as i know. She just was difficult with senior people.

No, it isn't. As any reputable therapist will tell you. A trans person might need therapy, though generally that is more due to how they get treated by people who want to pretend that they don't exist.

He’s got at jest 40-50 more years to get through and dying in this hill isn’t really worth it in that context.
i think now if I was him I’d give up the protest and move in, keeping the head down. He could change career as he seems like a bright guy but I’d imagine both he and his family are on blacklists in colleges here at this stage given their antics to date. He’s probably best moving abroad after a time and hoping none of this follows him so he can start to rebuild his life. He should probably Jeri his family at arms length as well if he’s doing that as I’d say they’re encouraging his behaviour and validating it.

I firmly believe if it was a Muslim teacher, it would be handled much differently.
Possibly because Muslims are viewed as minority to be respected and protected in the context of Ireland. As long as they are not ex Irish military extremist and go to the Middle East and train lads how to jihad properly.
I think your fundamental point is sound though. As the Wilson Hospital School is Church of Ireland. It is veering away from the CofI ethos by the principal giving a new pronoun dictate.
I assume Burke thought he was in a ‘safe space’ given his staunch beliefs (Christian Union Society) teaching in a School with CofI ethos. It even states the fact in the ethos of the school on the Wilson Hospital School Website.
If the Wilson Hospital School was a non denominational ‘educate together’ school Burke’s argument on pronouns would be less of a valid argument. As the school would not have a religious foundation/ethos.
The real question should be why do Wilson Hospital School pretend to adhere to a CofI ethos? Shouldn’t their ethos now change given the new pronoun stance?
One of the RTÉ panel on Brendan Connors show made a really good point on Enoch Burke earlier -
whatever people’s individual views are, we can agree to have a grudging respect for someone standing up for their personal views despite the consequences.
Why would you think a school would be more tolerant of a Muslim teacher being abusive towards the school's principal?
Bit of a knee jerk reaction there. I know some families that were homeschooled and they aren't religious nuts.
Yes, the Muslim teacher would have handled it properly.
