Belgium pays into the EU budget, and the EU has various funds to benefit Ukraine both with financial aid and military aid.
Belgium already contributes to that as part of the EU, so it doesnt owe anything to the EU. Anything owed to the EU is paid.
By your logic Ireland, as a net financial contributor to the EU, is totally exempt from any EU policies and aspirations. According to you the obligation or onus is based around whether you are a net contributor or benefactor from the EU budgets.
Belgium is a taker. It doesn't contribute financially to the EU, it's a benefficiary. It's economy receives a significant net benefit from so many EU institutions being based there.
There is therefore an obligation on Belgium to uphold EU policies and aspirations. At the moment, the EU has taken a strong policy of support for Ukraine, so I'd say Belgium is morally obliged to contribute, given it takes and gets so much.
So while it's cute to say Belgium doesn't owe 'Ukraine', that is entirely negated by what it 'owes' the EU.
Thats alot of freedom coming Russias way
More fun times in the Russian military
You can't fight a war if you are constantly afraid something bad might happen. No risk no gain. The west needs to accept the risk, or shrivel up in cowardice.
As producer, Germany was holding up the other allies in terms of the tank decision, hence the considerable criticism from allied countries.
Belgium was sitting on surplus stock which it wasn't sending due to, oh I don't know, shiatty Belgian government bureaucracy, hence the criticism
There's no need for a pearl-clutching exercise every time there's criticism.
Oh so it could escalate into a massive continental scale war.
Glad we can agree that potential exists.
The problem lies in the fact nobody on here made the claim of putin is going to die exactly 14 days from a certain date but yet the same individuals keep bringing it up like some gotcha moment,
There was a story in the media saying putin was receiving cancer treatment,no one in here diagnosed the cancer,
But every few weeks it's remember that time it was claimed om here putin would die in exactly 14 days,
Even oncology doctors have told people they had 6 weeks to live yet 3-4 years later the same patient could still be living with treatments.
Using that logic what does any country owe Ukraine?
Anyone is perfectly entitled to criticise a government. If you think every NATO member is doing a perfect optimal job of supplying Ukraine, cool, I don't share that opinion. If you think every NATO member is equally pulling it's weight relative to others, cool, I don't share that opinion either. This isn't a charity auction.
And unsurprisingly neither a yes or a no is given.
Germany can be condemned for not sending tanks, but not the US. Even when Germanys tanks look set to arrive first.
Belgium can be condemned, for not giving enough but not nato, which wouldnt give just 1% of jets.
Belgium has a moral duty because reasons, and has failed by not providing some unilaterally decided arbitrary amount.
US however definitely doesnt have a moral duty under the budapest memorandum. The whole paying off Ukraine to lose its nukes, thats all neither here nor there. Even though its documented.
Back to the delay on tanks, Germany is definitely to blame for that, even though the inner workings of what was actually going on aren't documented, with the public receiving conflicting govt announcements. But we do know it was definitely the Germans fault, and nobody elses. Even if they did say Poland only has to ask several times.
Some Ukrainkan minister condemning Belgium gets featured. But no feature of Zelensky condemning natos foot dragging. But the site (oryx) isnt biased.
'Foot dragging' by those who neighbor Russia is to be condemned.
But not nato/us foot dragging, from a safe location nowhere near any consequences.
Failure to hold this line, ... Orwell rd. Etc.
You do have to remember though that the burden of proof lies on the person making the claim - there is no onus to 'disprove' a claim.
It's why arguements like 'prove to me god is not real, wait you can't ' are invalid.
They seem to just gather and share the data, why should they be obligated to criticise Nato and what about their work is MAGAesque to you?
What difference would 70 -100 Western tanks make in Ukraine.
This only shows a few western tanks but 100 backed up with a similar number of Bradley's, Strykers ,CV90s , Maraders
This is a fight the Russians don't want.
Linked article goes on to say there is no confirmation of who was on board, the headline is misleading but that could be due to the translation.
But yet you can't disprove the claims,
Could he have cancer, yes
Could he have a degenerative cognitive disorder, yes
Could he fall down flight of stairs and **** himself -yes
Does he have doubles - yes
It's not calling out nonsense it's repeating the same claim over and over oh remember when it was claimed he would die 14 days from this exact date, only nobody made the claim
okay walter mitty i believe you
Why do Belgium owe that?
People on this thread post nonsense articles or tweets that make statements like Putin is dying or has bone/blood cancer and heart attacks and will die/is already dead. Its nonsense and should be called out as such.
I'm want putin to loose but.
To loose what? Loosen his belt? His purse-strings?
No they broke trough the defence lines when they found the weak spots with manuever warfare and combined arms.
Meaning artillery and armoured vehicles
And in Kherson itself it was a decided by Russia they didnt want urban warfare so they retreated across the river and built new trenches and fortifications, because their supply lines was cut off.
Modern battle tanks and anti aircraft missle systems , rocket artillery
Seems to be a decent benchmark?
Nobody on here bar say you and possibly one other has Said anything about putin dieing in exactly 14 days from a particular date,
It's being used as ohhh aren't we so smart we keep saying it was predicted putin was going to die in exactly 14 days hahahaha.
But yet it's the same people saying it on this thread,
But yet get very excited when it looks like Russia has moved 10 meters in a single month.
What does Belgium owe Ukraine?
Why is it seen as them not paying their share or dragging their heels - what onus is there on them to provide and how much is enough? What is the benchmark?
They just want to liberate so much of Europe.
People can criticise nation's responses to this war. I've posted a defense analysis site and the Ukrainians themselves criticising, for example, one country's contributions last year. You didn't address a single point they made. Instead you just lazily chalk it up as bias, which seems to be a recurring theme.
And when he doesnt, what will you say? Admit you were wrong to believe all the nonsense rumours and propaganda, or is it still happening just in 2 more weeks?
The idea that since we dont have 100% certainty that anything and everything is a valid theory is idiotic. By that measure, I could say Ukraine have 500k casualties (they dont). Why? Because sure if none of us no for sure, then how can you say its wrong? Thats the same logic that follows your believing every silly rumour about Putin having 2 weeks to live, or Shoigu dying from a heart attack, or general X is about to overthrow Putin in a fortnight.
Its up there with "trust the plan" Q loopers 😁 Putin is going to die in 14 days patriots, trust the plan, Q.
And If he died from cancer tomorrow.
What would you say then ?
This is what the orcs are claiming as success today 😂
But the orcs can shoot them down ,
12 aircraft won't win a war unfortunately
A squadron generally means somewhere between 12 and 16 aircraft, depending on the doctrine of the particular air force in question. That's not a lot of aircraft, especially if you take into consideration that a few of those aircraft will be down for maintenance and/or repair. For Ukraine to use them effectively, you're going to be looking at multiple squadrons, significant support equipment on the ground, trained technicians for line maintenance and repair, and of course significant amounts of ammunition, from AMRAAMs & Sidewinders for air-to-air combat to HARMs, Paveway & unguided bombs, rocket pods and similar weapons for air to ground use.
Should Ukraine get all that? Absolutely, and if Germany can get a squadron or two of Tornados IDS together that aren't completely clapped out, then Ukraine should get those as well, they'd be perfectly suited for the type of ultra-low flying that seems to be the norm in this war. Also, I'D love to see a last hurrah for the good old "Klappdrachen!" But Ukraine will need the quantity as well as the quality for these systems to be effective.
