Sure. Ukrainians could blast team America out too.
Or Challengers
Bit hard for the dove to be in something that wont arrive til March.
russia could like stop the war then ?
Not looking very likely.
The IOC is paving the way for Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete at the Paris Olympics next year.
" The IOC is eager to include Russian and Belarusian athletes as neutrals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which would mean competing under the Olympic flag, but it is still unclear if and how they could qualify."
The Olympic Council of Asia has previously said athletes from Russia and Belarus can compete in Asian events to qualify for 2024.
So It's not NATO's fault then Picture is misleading.
No f that. It's not a political issue so they have no mandate to suggest it is. It's war crimes.
Not surprised the IOC giving them rights to compete, they are probably more corrupt than russia
I was questioning the Russian version of events.
I think the meaning is probably something different than placing blame.
The general consensus is that this art is a commentary on nato dithering and self interest. Nato being the slow turtle primarily interested in munching the opportune olive branch.
Very controversial - I would imagine many western athletes would not feel comfortable about having to face Russian opponents, especially in the many one on one sports like boxing, judo, taekwondo, wrestling, fencing etc. They're opening up a hornet's nest by even looking at this.
Also, as asked, how would they even qualify for many events? If they were to go the Asia route, it would severely limit the number of athletes that could even get there - far more qualifying spots for athletes and teams open in Europe.
Well that's fair enough but art is up to interpretation. And Ukraine not being in NATO ties their hands somewhat. That's why you have seen individual NATO members acting.
Yeah, and the RuZZians have been such stalwart, clean-cut Olympic participants in the past. /s
Bad enough Djokovic will be bringing his cadre of RuZZia-supporting Serbs with him.
We've seen individual EU members acting. And the EU, rapidly, significantly.
Along with other individual countries, many non-nato.
Nato itself however ... meh.
Top men
The Asia Olympic council angle must mean China is putting pressure on the IOC.
Why Would a defensive alliance get involved In a non member. NATO seems to be doing stuff behind the scenes with it's members for further supports. Nothing slow about it. They are a Defence alliance.
Great example of a non-sequitur, thanks you !
I suppose theyre not technically obliged to. Although neither was the EU, but the EU did. Thankfully.
The EU is not a defensive alliance. And Plenty outside the EU have supplied stuff.
Yes, their nuclear doctrine is not a "first strike" policy, but only to use it if there was an "Existential threat" to Russia itself.
Unfortunately, thats not what I was discussing with the other poster, we were talking about Putins comment below:
"On December 7, 2022, president Putin stated that Russia will not be the first to use nuclear weapons in a conflict, neither will "it be the second" to do so ,in public".
and how it look like he may have been hinting that the US had already used nuclear weapons, not just once, but twice, such as his comment suggests, but thanks for your input.
Escalation has happened, although as you can see its happened gradually and carefully. Baerbock now using words such as 'war with Russia' in parliament.
There are good reasons for turning the dial slowly. Remember the target is Vlad, who has Russia under his spell, and we want to avoid continental war.
Well ... some of us do. Others, with ... lets just say 'with a thing for military toys' think it would be cool.
It really really wouldnt.
99 red balloons.
He could be offcourse, but he also knows the consequence of doing so,and so does NATO
And to be honest i doubt that will ever happen
The only thing that will happen is a nuclear plant going boom Plausible deniability. And even then we know who has been messing with them.
Vatnik in the Z tee shirt with features you'd expect. Big misshapen head, receding mess hair and looks 20 years older than he probably is.
Nato have been fantastic the majority of the equipment and kit comes from nato members.
Not the eu , the eu wanted limited sanctions, it's nato who's given the military kit,and it takes time to organize, logistics and supply lines , but weapons are flowing along with vehicles...
That would be the most likely scenario, but if any of that radiation or fallout should end up in a neigbouring NATO country,we have a article 5,so it doesnt come without consequences either
Yeah it comes from countries which happen to be nato members, but thats not a reflection on nato itself.
US for example has some moral obligation due to the Budapest memorandum. So US sends weapons, not nato. Nato wasnt part of the Budapest memorandum, no moral obligation.
EU as an institution itself has imposed sanctions, organized massive funding, and obliged members to accept Ukrainian refugees. And has established a csdp civilian security mission with Ukraine.
Nato as an institution in itself hasnt really been very involved.
Like when Germany sends a leopard, or France sends an amx, or czechia sends a t72. Those actions are attributable to the countries themselves. Nato isnt part of that.
russia was part of the Budapest memorandum they broke it welcome to like page 100.
