You don’t need to change your name by Deed Poll. In Ireland your “legal” name is the one you choose to use.

As Raichu points out there isn't any requirement for them to. The position of the government is basically that your name is what you call yourself.
That being said, yes, some of them do. Changing via deed poll makes things like getting a passport with their correct name on it easier. If you don't have a deed poll you need to be able to prove that you've been using the new name for something like 2 years. It can also help shut up idiots that say things like "well, that isn't your LEGAL name".

He's not burning money, that's the problem. He's representing himself in all these circuses, the only people burning money are the school and the taxpayer.
Even if he's found liable for costs, he'll claim poverty on account of being unemployed and we'll be on the hook for all of it.
Not sure if it has been mentioned, but has anyone any idea what his end goal or objective is here? Is it a form of protest or what's he at? Does he actually believe there's a chance that the BOM will come out and say, actually you were right, all is forgiven and here's your job back?

Exactly my point, there is nothing stopping anyone demanding to be called Jimmy one week and John the next. There is no legal obligation which is farcical, especially when it can lead to dismissal for refusal to use someone’s newly chosen name, which could in theory be changed in a weekly basis.
Open to correction on the above, that’s how I understand it at the moment.

Yeah, according to GoFundMe, in general donations are treated as a persona gifts. There are tax free thresholds for personal gifts. But the threshold is cumulative and applies to the total taxable benefits you have received in that group over your whole life. So assuming each donor is Group C (which randomers in the US would likely be), and the donations started after October 9th 2019, he'd have a total of €16,250 tax free donations before he started having to pay 33% CAT on the rest.
He could do a bit of shifting around with his 9 siblings and avail of €32,500 in total tax-free from them (all of them, not each), and of course €335,000 in total from his parents.
However, there's also the €3,000 Small Gift exemption per year, and that applies to each donor individually.
So in practice, he could get €3,000 in personal gifts each year from a load of people, and not have to pay any tax.
Post 3000. Not bad, could have been worse :)
I actually think he truly believes that everyone will suddenly have the scales fall from their eyes and he will be utterly vindicated and he'll get his job back and no one will be allowed use Pro-nouns and all will be right in his little world.
