Gender is a social construct. Trans people identify more with a different gender than the one that matches their biological sex. I'm guessing that you feel that you yourself were are either Male or Female.

This is how many trans people feel. There have been trans people for thousands of years. It's just that they were either persecuted, or ignored, or bullied for most of history. There was a Roman Emperor Elagabalus who wanted people to call him a lady and is widely thought to have been transgender (he was assassinated)
The difference between ireland today, and the Ireland of 40 years ago is that we are much more open and diverse and most people under 50 are completely fine with anyone who identifies as Gay, or Bi. Trans is just another part of that spectrum and we should accept them for who they are

Local here. They do sweet f*ck all and they are not respected, they are avoided. Some sympathy for the offspring as they are a product of their awful parents - the mother in particular - but they are in no way supported in the town or county.

What a world we live in where transgenderism is considered a mental illness yet believing in a magic book - about a big man in the sky who dictates everything and anything that happens in the world and whose son was born after an 'immaculate conception' which protected the virginity of said child's mother and said son grew up to be a magical miracle maker and who rose from the dead - is considered perfectly acceptable and normal.
Why would they officially comment on a process in which they played no part, involving a teacher who is not a member?
Have the teachers unions come out to say that the story is shiite made up by the papers as AndrewJRenko claims they generally are, have they said they don’t have concerns about the process by which this teacher was dismissed? Have they said that what “a senior union” official is reported to have said in relation to Enoch Burke is either not their position, or completely false? Not that I am aware of.
If you think papers made this up, say it, but when you make a statement that generally stories involving un named sources is shiite made up by papers, expect to be asked to back that up, or just admit that what you posted was shiite. Maybe AndrewJRenko will clarify.
I know castlebar people (my own relations) who are based there over 150 years so, yeah, I’ll go with their advice rather than randomers on boards -

The thing with the Burkes is that they don't know how to "agree to disagree".
Like everyone is entitled to their opinion and if he doesn't want to agree with addressing someone by a different pronoun, noone can stop those beliefs or thoughts.
But respect and compassion of another human should always trump that.
Live and let live and all that.
Privately think what you want but respect someone else's situation and call them "they/them" if they want to.
Many of us have to "suck up" things we don't agree with but when another person's dignity and respect is compromised, that should trump our discomfort.
Their so called "christianity" somehow prevents them from doing that little thing.
