I wonder how this will work out for him

It was a parody account not actually Spillane himself.
I'm guessing that yesterday he got into the school but today he either stayed outside or they had security to prevent him getting in.
Let him stand outside forever and a day if he wants.
He presumably wants to get arrested, standing outside all day long is a tough ask for anybody, it's humiliating and a decent punishment for the moron.
Just in case anyone's looking for a job..
I'm going to need a citation on that.
Well said. But unfortunately there's a couple on here that will argue night is day etc. Don't know if it's just to be "different" or they are too lazy to read the facts.
Funny, you don't see many of the "but I respect him for standing up for his principles" crowd similarly leaping to the defense of Insulate Britain and Just Stop Oil when they were actively willing to disrupt and be arrested for their strongly held beliefs.
It's almost as if they're selective in the principles that they think it's admirable to stand up against the law for.
Not educated enough not to fuck his career up though.
If you were a guard would you volunteer to deal with that head melt? you would find something else to do very quickly.
If your principles are that you want to vilify people on the basis of their gender identity or sexual orientation then standing up for them is not a virtue.
There are an awful lot of things in the bible that are morally abhorrent today. If your religious principle was that people should be stoned to death for working on the sabbath, would you consider this a good thing?
Yes he is exceptional, but you can be exceptional in a bad way as well as good way.
In this case, the Burkes are exceptionally obnoxious and offensive to the values we hold dear in a modern diverse and inclusive society.
Plan ahead. Catheter and drainage bag or tap. 😉
Exactly.
Perfect!
They are mocking him, not cheering him on.
Spillane was a teacher and principal for what it's worth.
Perhaps , but that Freedom goes both ways.
If Enoch et al are free to act as they do , then everyone else is equally free to express their feelings about them so asking people to "stop being mean" to them is an impingement on their freedoms.
Freedom to say and act as you wish is not freedom from the consequences of doing so.
Why wasn't he arrested or forcefully removed by Gardai today, as he was yesterday?
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay nack in AMish histroy they fought mighty battles with the authoriies.. Now they are settled and safe.
I think it's a case of not taking her religious blinkers off.
So he paid the price? What then is your gripe?
What difference does it make how educated he is?
Are "educated people" some how more good than non educated people? That's incredibly condescending and insulting of people for different reasons don't have the same level of education.
Just because you are a teacher doesn't make you a good person. A look at the child abuse scandals in the Catholic Church over the last few decades is educational . Most of those priests were "highly educated" for their time. That education did not stop them from repeatedly commiting horrific crimes. Neither did their "principles" or at least those principles espoused in public.
I appreciate that's an extreme example and that no one is acussing Enoch Burke of anything close to that. However my example does highlight how meaningless constant referrals to the Burkes families piety and education are.
Oh believe me, I'm not missing anything. ROFL. Actually was he ordered or did he correct the principal?
Ah I see, But belief means living that belief ... Else it ia a hollow drum.
But that IS freedom. You cannot change or adapt belief because others do not believe, I do see your point and as I have said repeatedly I would never ever act as he did. He made a different choice AND THAT IS THEIR FREEDOM, Freedom does not entail everyone agreeing with everyone else. We have sen that time and again in history. Look at the battle for female emancipation and votes, WOW!
Oh dear.
********
The hope is that posters will have the intelligence to understand that the two are not mutually exclusive.
You are missing the point. He is being ORDERED to do something that is against his religious beliefs. As I said yesterday in that position I would simply have evaded. Not addressed the student by name at all.. gone on teaching all my students equally. I was there to teach. Being paid for that. End of, This man made a differen choice, End of, and it will be dealt with. In ireland we have freedom of religion. He is exercising that freedom and has paid dearly for it already.
Are you trolling people at this point?
Pat Spillane on Twitter
"I see Enoch Burke has returned to his school once more today, despite being dismissed. In a way I kind of admire him.
Typical Mayo man, suffers defeat after defeat, but ultimately keeps coming back."
Had great respect for you on the weather forum but come on, get your facts right.
