RTÉ's report this morning:
Plenty of ars3h0les make their way through the schooling system as well though. And I'm not an expert, but I can imagine home-schooling might be the only option for some parents of some kids. Particularly those families away from urban areas who have no access to special needs classes nearby and whatnot.
My question is, where do they get their money from? The mother surely didn't work and the dad is an electrician through the property crash and recession, is that right? And Enoch won't be getting a pay check anytime soon. So physically, day to day, how do they live, pay for mortgages, food, books, clothes, electricity, gas.. phones.. I always wonder this when I see people doing things like this for months or years at a time.
Jesus has nothing on this guy the amount of times he’s come back 😂
The trade union movement has been at the heart of most progressive social movements over the past fifty years, and has been particularly strong in the area of LGBT rights. If you look at the Marriage Equality and Repeal movements, you’ll see a lot of union activists at the heart of those campaigns, acting in a personal capacity. You’ll also find that most trade unions got behind those campaigns officially.
The vast majority of union members would be very sensitive to the risk of giving any succour to the Burke family campaign to drag Ireland back to the 1950s, and their attacks on freedom for gay people and trans people.
The Indo article strikes me a pure sh1tstirring, designed to kick off an internal row within the trade union movement. The Indo would have a fairly long history of anti-union articles, going back to the 80s and 90s and continuing today. An unidentified union source, if it existed at all, could be any one of the thousands of teachers who are trade union members. It does not represent an official union position, or the view of the vast majority of trade union members.
I don’t know for sure but I’d wager the family get financial support from evangelical groups in the US also I’m fairly sure the siblings are still employed in well paying jobs, the sister is a solicitor.
They have a book shop in castlebar but anytime I pass it there isn't a sinner in it. (Pardon the pun)
Is that a fold up stool in his bag?
If I was the parent of a child who's education continues to be disrupted by the traveling clown show of selfishness that is this entire family, I would be less than impressed.
She was fired, and then had her case kicked out of the WRC for her obnoxious behaviour.
Wouldn't it be great if the media stopped filming him and simply turned their backs on him? He's getting a serious kick out of all the attention he's getting. It's just surprising his siblings and mother aren't there.
Whether I believe it or not, is not the issue.
What one is that? I've never seen it mentioned in any articles about them, and I don't see anything online. Enoch Burke's posts about his self-published book on Twitter only mention it being on sale on Amazon. If they had a family bookshop, surely it would be on sale there too. (Edit: turns out they do indeed have a pop-up book shop at the moment)
There's a Christian bookshop in Westport (Good News 4 U on James Street), but that's not associated with the Burkes as far as I know.
Do you read the Indo much?
There's nothing inherently wrong with Home-schooling as long as it's following a proscribed curriculum and the teaching standards are maintained.
And at least from a purely academic perspective , the Burkes are well educated - All the adult children have gone on to University and obtained degrees etc.
The problem seems to be the unique mix of extreme religiosity and isolation that has led the Burke family to appear to lack any kind of emotional intelligence , empathy or any ability to understand and accept contradictory opinions.
It’s a simple question, what basis have you for saying un named sources generally means shiite is made up by papers?
It's on market square. I read somewhere it's a pop up shop so might not be there too long. It was a fish shop before.
I know that he wasn't in court yesterday but he was in custody.
It's quite normal for family members to offer support even when people are in much more trouble than EB.
Nothing normal about a family dressing like pallbearers chanting incessantly.
It's very much the opposite of "quite normal".
Also your father dropping you to a place you have been fired from is also the opposite of "quite normal".
In fact you'd struggle to use that word in any reference to this family.
Jesus he has already explained his basis for asserting that. You clearly don't agree which is fine, but it's making the thread hard to read with the constant hounding. He doesn't believe the paper, you do.
Ah yes, I see the Indo mention it here
The irony is that Sean Burke asked the journalist to leave! 🤣
So thats where Martina perfected her shrieking.
Again, you missed the point. And he has not explained the basis why GENERALLY, un named sources means a story is made up.
It isn’t about what I believe, I, and possibly many others would like to know what the teachers unions view is on this situation..
The Times refers to “a senior union source”, is AndrewJRenko saying that is made up as well?

I wouldn't be happy if my children were going to that school,
A parent or pupil could say something, someone could snap and then......... We never thought anything like this would happen,
This should be nipped in the bud, if someone has been sacked they have no reason to be turning up,
As a country we only react when things go to far,
If you care to attend at the CCJ in Parkgate Street you will see family members attending in support of people being tried for the most serious of crimes.
In some cases they may have pleaded guilty to rape or murder but their family still turn up every day.
That's great but has literally nothing to do with my post.
he wasn't at court. He was there to tresspass.
The worst bit is the parents are paying to send the kids there. Looking online it's €1,600 a year up to €9,500 for boarders.
Thousands of euros this year to be thrown at legal fees. I hope they have some kind of insurance to cover the legal costs.
This would bankrupt many a business.
Without wishing to labour the point I am simply pointing out that it is normal for all sorts of miscreants to receive support from their families.
Yes I know.
If Burke senior is considered to be in breach of any law he should be dealt with by AGS.
i dont think giving someone a lift is against the law.
