Look at comments to the article nearly all victim blaming and whataboutry. Filthy Russia bots pounce on everything
I think it's more to do with redressing imbalance in the conflict.
On a psychological level, a morale level and in terms of the battlefield. If I was Ukrainian I'd rather have Abraams and Leopards in the mix than not at all. Overall they've done wonders with the kit they've sent.
It has to be acknowledged that the Russians are not going to remain militarily awful forever, there are signs they are adapting. It's not getting any "easier" for the Ukrainians.
There is huge corruption in London and probably most other capitals. It is how business works.
Thought this went under the lend lease?
Germany say, fire away lads...
Botho German news site Der Spiegel and Politico are reporting that Germany will be sending Tanks to Ukraine itself. For starters, it'll be a company of Leopard 2A6, that's the version the Bundeswehr itself uses. That's 14 tanks. I haven't found anything as to whether older Leopard 2A4 currently in storage will also be sent.
No just like any other tank, but have some advantages over the russian tanks,,like better survivability, better thermals, better fire control systems and ballistic computers, also one more crewmember with the loader for maintenance.
This depends on what version of the leopard/abrams they are sending however.
They cannabalised passenger planes to build a supersonic bomber before and they fell out the sky very frequently.
So Lepords and Abrams to be released?
If it happens the Russians are going to have a very, very , very bad day
Some advantages,
It's premier league vs league of Ireland
So how many lepoards are going between Germany and the polish led tank coalition
Greece has a 100 of the old leopards and same new but they're very wary of the Turks I wouldn't expect them to give up any
I wouldnt say so,it all depends on the version they are sending, the later versions of Leopard/abrams is offcourse better in many aspects, the older Leopard2a4 maybe not so much,it all depends on the ammo they are getting.
What Ukraine really needs is the newer versions with 120 mm multipurpose ammo with airburst that can take out infantry in trenches and atgm teams.
They will still be vulnerable to anti tank guided missiles.
But then again its all how you use them in combined arms and espesially infantry support.
Germany ran out of excuses.
Looks like they could well be getting 100 + tanks from the coalition ,
Add artillery systems, and other armoured fighting vehicles including Bradleys and Strykers things are going to get interesting very quickly,
Russian tactics have changed recently but can they counter what's coming in the next few weeks,I don't think they added US armor and other Western tanks to their equation
Great, I can put my suicide vest back in the drawer for the time being...
So far it looks as follows, at least according to the reports I could find:
Germany: 14 Leopard 2 A6
Poland: 14 Leopard 2 (Unknown which model, but likely either Leopard 2 A5 or Leopard 2PL)
Norway: 8 Leopard 2 A4
Netherlands: 16: Leopard 2 A6 (currently leased from Germany, NL wants to buy out lease and send the tanks to Ukraine)
That would be 52 from those above. Please note that those are only the transfers that have either been confirmed by media reports, requested, or were announced by their governments, so it doesn't include rumours, or statements by the industry.
From my understanding, the 16 German Leos are effectively taken straight out of a Bundeswehr tank unit, so should be ready for transfer reasonably quickly. However, a few days ago, German media reported that a total of 139 older models of Leopard, mostly Leopard 2 A4, but also 88 Leopard 1, are in storage with the manufacturer, and could be transferred once the government gives the green light, and I haven't heard anything about those.
Challengers adds another 14 tanks ?
Wonder If this is the end of Abrams talks now the lepoards are being freed from captivity,
After Zelensky and Boris, I think Jens Stoltenberg may be the most impressive player in this. Nice one arguing it's about self defence, not neutrality.
90 seconds to Midnight.....
Not from what I can see. There's nothing confirmed yet, but from reports by US news outlets I saw earlier, the US is looking at sending up to a brigade's worth of M1s to Ukraine. Not sure how large a US tank brigade is, but the number I saw was somewhere between 30-50. Including logistics support & training.
Ft Riley is in Kansas, 1ID recently finished a rotation in Europe. Could be their kit coming home. We move units around all the time for exercises, deployments, equipment rotations...
Apparently, Germany was under massive pressure behind the scenes from the US in particular.
I think everyone needs to stop the browbeating of Germany for their position.
For almost 80 years the Federal Republic of Germany has wrestled and agonised and reflected on the legacy of the Nazi regime and as a matter of national position and expression, set the BRD up as a defensive land only, while reflecting the reality of the DDR and USSR in their geopolitics.
Turning the military output of the German Republic into an offensive force, of any sort, in a foreign land, would have been simply unconscionable two years ago.
I think they are doing the right thing, but I think its an arm around the shoulder they ought to be getting, not a kick in the pants.
Looks like Germany will send /can send 130+ leopards over the next year depending on what reports are to believed as you already said ,add that the other lepoards 50 - 100 claimed will be sent ukraine could in theory end up with 200 lepoards in service backed up with Bradleys and other IFVs
Solidarity.
It should be stressed too that German public opinion was / is very divided on the issue (for a variety of historical reasons).
No sorry they allowed themselves to be bent over a barrel by putin and it's not a recent thing, this going on for over a decade, Germany along with a other minor players in Europe has allowed the situation in ukraine to happen not just this year but over the previous 9 years of Russian occupation of Ukraine,
They gave him power, they turned off their nuclear power plants and turned to putin for cheap oil and gas while allowing other countries to be blackmailed by putin pay more or I turn off the taps ,
The Germans have long way to go before thoughts of redemption
Oh good stuff a proper dog pile of weapons
...🤣🤣🤣🤣
