They've done a good job on cutting back on usage of gas, but they are still well below the capacity they had pre-war, and as the German ministry of the economy have stated, years away from replacing that capacity with LNG. Gas usage in Germany has been curtailed massively compared to pre-war (curtailed across most of Europe, except Ireland where it increased 🙄) To ramp up heavy industry like the production of tanks (and all the ancillary industries it relies on) would be very expensive in the current climate with PPI up to 20% yoy.

No you are not wrong but you laid the pessimism on a lot stronger back then (March) as regards European energy supply & economy (+ the high likelyhood of concessions to Russia) if I recall. I remember calling it "defeatism".
There's a large war on, alot of things are going to be a "struggle" now, replacing Russian energy and re-arming Western Europe [as well as arming Ukraine to the teeth with Western weapons right up to aircraft at same time] are 2 of them.
Yes, it is possible urgency of the need may gain the US weapons companies "market share" in Europe (if its own companies cannot respond quickly enough to the needs). That is pretty much the fault of poor decisions of governments in Europe being exposed brutally by what has happened now rather than a conspiracy/US grand plan, similar to the problems with energy supply (too much reliance placed on Russia, and on external fossil fuels/energy supplies generally).
