All people are looking for is the basic respect that if they tell you that they identify a particular way, that you show them the courtesy of doing so. It’s as simple as that. You’re not signing your soul over to some cult doing so. Don’t buy into the paranoia surrounding this simple issue.
This is just a cheap emotional argument to get people to comply.
I have no paranoia. I'm fully up to speed with the ramblings of the likes of Judith Butler the gender expert and her adherents.
But I note you are not defending gender ideology rather defending one's right to identify as they wish and respecting that. That's a different thing altogether as I said. Some might say that is a neat trick.
Gender ideology says you can't assume anyone's gender, which would mean when a baby is born you can't assume what gender(sex) one is by simply observing them.
Rubbish! Look, don’t be getting your education on the matter from fools on Twitter. Nobody cares if you assume if someone identifies as male, female other or none based on appearance or anything else.
Burkes Religious beliefs are not undermined by having to address someone by their preferred pro-noun - it’s a false premise to begin with -just as they’re not impacted in any way by being asked to call Ms Madison by her maiden name post divorce.
This is not correct.
I don't care whether it's religious beliefs or just beliefs or just one's opinion.
Anyone can change their name but pronouns have been used as an affirming gender ideology weapon of late which is why you have people stating their pronouns on their Twitter profiles etc, people who are neither identify as Trans or non-binary, because they are supports of it for whatever reason.
Gender ideology says you can't assume anyone's gender, which would mean when a baby is born you can't assume what gender(sex) one is by simply observing them. We have always to date identified people by observation. In a sexed species we are hard-wired to know if one is a man or a woman by a multitude of different signals, so if one was blind you'd still know by one's other senses.
I would argue that if trans people have existed 'from the beginning of time' then everyone would instinctively know what gender one is without having to be told what pronouns to use just like we've never been told what pronouns to use generally until recently.
Some people here are little muddled up on this issue. The issue of anyone being free to identify how they like is not what is at play here. Trans people are not identifying how they like they are identifying as they think they are just like everyone else does. So 'freedom to identify how you like' has nothing to do with gender ideology.
Arguing over the meaning of 'they' here is completely irrelevant to this discussion also. The point is it's an 'affirming' pronoun and the only thing you could possibly be affirming is that you agree with gender ideology. To say use it 'to be nice' is just a cop out to avoid discussing the actual issue.
Now I agree that Burke's predicament has noting per se to do with the above but to say the issue is irrelevant (as some have said) is just silly. Surely he can disagree with the schools policy as an atheist or anyone could, even if he went all the wrong way about it.
Anyone who follows the trans wars will know that the whole crux of the issue is whether or not there is such a think as a sense of gender at all. It is not just evangelical Christians that don't believe there is such a thing but atheists and some leftists, people from all over the political and religious spectrum and more.
It's funny though how some people don't wish to defend gender ideology and have flipped to 'people should be able to identify however they like', which is a whole different concept altogether.
Wonder if he tried to log in for the training.😂
I wonder did Enoch stand in the corridor at home so?
The school was closed today for a JCT training day (staff worked from home as training day online).
You'll address me by my proper title ya little.......
I am John rogers. You can’t speak to me like this!
Unfair to that lady
Write out 100 times:
I must not impersonate the former Head of Wilson's school.
😂.
Only copped now what you were doing there
can get u any autograph if you don’t look too hard at it mate a sharpie is a powerful tool
...
Tempted
Ah look, it was a moment of brevity - i don't underestimate the trauma at all - threads just getting too heated that's all
I don't think its something to joke about, really. Identity is a very sensitive issue for non-binary and trans folk.
It takes a lot of courage to come out and ask others to call you by a new name or pronouns. And you can see why they might be scared to do that, from some of the attitudes on this thread.
But I'm glad you weren't being serious. 👍️
Dafuq, thats a whole other level of batshit crazy right there
I knew he was a lost cause, but holy crap
For the record it was a joke post- a bit of humour is kindof needed here at this stage but I can see people have their humour radar switched off 😀
It's very rare
I don't remember any other teacher doing the same level of shít housing as this clown, do you?
Exceedingly rare, unique even.
It's even rarer that the process gets wrapped up so quickly.
Are you taking the píss?
I imagine if any board members were on the fence the chanting gowls chasing the principal out of the hotel might have swayed them.
I suppose "it" would be unacceptable
Why not just use what you are asked to use? Also solves a lot of issues.
Interesting.
He has clearly been considering this issue for some time.
In his own words from the contact section of the website.
"As a teacher I have felt the chill of the legislation she commenced, with it's negative impact on parents, teachers and the school ethos."
Why not just use “Hem” for everyone?
- it includes elements of he, she and them - solves an awful lot of issues all round
You’ll read it and you’ll like it
Now write out 100 lines “I must follow every post and like doing so”
😝
I generally use he or she rather than they or them, when talking about a single person. Regarding your three examples, I definitely would not use they or them as each example is a about a single person. I can only imagine singing "For they're a jolly good fellow" after "Happy Birthday"....lol
If I'm at home and my husband says to me, "There's somebody at the door", I may reply along the lines of "Who is it?" or "What do they want?" I may use "they" in that instance as I wouldn't know if it's a male or female at the door however that's about the only time I'd use they/them when speaking about an individual.
That’s definitely not a topic to get into here! There’s a whole movement of people who assert that cis lesbians engage in unacceptable discrimination if they prohibit the prospect of engaging in sex or a relationship with a pre-op (or non-op) MTF transsexual.
Something I learned today: Enoch Burke has an entire website dedicated to outing Katherine Zappone as a witch! 😂
https://www.katherinezappone2020.ie/beliefs/
I think that the Courts would have to consider the balance of rights as between the two parties given the potential conflict. One undermines or finishes a person’s essential existence while the other might be regarded as the sort of mental reservation we have to engage when we deal with people we don’t respect or like as opposed to curtailing their actual beliefs.
No word on it.
Maybe it has dawned on him that his only future prospect of employment is an employer who does not have internet access and he needed the Monday off.
"Is so and so upstairs?"
"Yeah, they'll be down in a minute"
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
