Submitted my 2019 M3P for trade in appraisal. if it comes at less than the price of the MY RWD, do I want to pay extra for a 4 year newer car, with less performance? I imagine a 46k 2019 M3P and a 46k 2023 MY RWD will depreciate at the same rate, given the same price.
46k 2019 M3P is quite expensive when the newer one is available for 60?
I'm in a very similar situation myself, @rocky. But instead of your 4 year old Model 3 Performance, I have a 6 year old Model S. Also worth roughly the same as a brand new base Model Y
So, do I want to pay extra or the same for a brand new car, which is the lesser car in most ways?
And no, I don't expect the depreciation to be at the same rate as a brand new Model Y, our cars will depreciate more over the next few years at least.
€66k
My 2020 M3P is sitting on my account with a trade in value of €56,050.
White on White with EAP and 35,000km.
But, I had to submit updated mileage last week and they haven’t come back to me with an updated price yet.
I got the following text :
I suspect that all trade ins will be reevaluated and I don’t think it will remain as good. I will be staying in the M3P myself I would imagine.
I think you know Tesla will give you a huge drop on the previous valuation, I hope you slip under the radar somehow but the writing is on the wall when you look at previous RWD trade ins (I know yours is a P but you get my drift)
@Gumbo - is that "final offer" from Tesla then valid until the scheduled collection date, 30 days later? And if the actual collection date is later through no fault of the buyer, is the option then valid until then?
65.5k I think
They’d want to do a better job of actually slashing the price of their inventory.
Used Model 3’s and the demo Model Y are all way over priced on the Irish site:

If I'm doing a Europe trip this year like the 8k km last year, I'd prefer to do it in an M3P for the faster charging speed and ... acceleration on the autobahn 😎
I hope you verified the 261km/h official figure of the max speed against your GPS? 😁
They haven't got around to updating them yet, say they are flat out with new sales orders
Does it sound like anybody trading in should waiting until 30 days to delivery to ask for an appraisal then- you are only annoying yourself get a value if they won't honour it?
Even when they finally do this, it is not clear whether they will make a major readjustment in line with, or ahead of the market or just slowly decrease their prices 3-500 EUR every five days or so. It is certainly taking them a while. Perhaps they want to keep them in stock for a while.
Can anyone confirm if the current version of the Model Y sold in Ireland no longer has parking sensors, and only relies on some sort of 3D imaging created by the cameras in the car?
I read that recently Tesla removed the parking sensors and that a future software update would allow a driver to have the same (?) functionality using cameras only...
Also, are the cheaper 4680 batteries being installed now vs previous 2170? Are they similar in performance and degradation?
Thanks.
Correct no ultrasonic sensors, don't think the batteries are changed.
No USS. The '3D imaging' doesn't seem to have actually developed yet so it may come soon or it may come a long time down the road - or more likely, some half baked half useless solution will be kludged together and sold as miracle software.
aren't they going to disable existing USS at some point too? or has that already happened?
Speculation so far - but they did do it with front radar I believe so there is precedent.
..but that was with a working substitute, the issue here remains blocked/blinded cameras.
I was restricted to 105km/h speed this morning by cruise control due to limited vision/fog/blocked/blinded cameras, it was grand, I could see a good 100m-150m+ but the car couldn't. Those same cameras are blocked when reversing
Model 3 but identical hardware
Try and see how you feel if USS are disabled, there's an option for that in the settings in the older cars.
But don't come back asking for refunds if you start bumping into stuff... 😃
Unwise to drive over 105km/h if you have only 100m visibility, this is just over 3s at that speed. Which is nowhere near enough to react plus brake to come to a standstill. So if you happen to come across a traffic jam or any other slow moving or static object, you WILL crash into it! 😮
Ohh I know. Hence why I said I’m staying in the M3P.
Although this time last year they offered €51k for the MS and when I traded it to them in March it was 57,606 🤣
That’s the offer, but, if it’s in the account at the time of collection then that’s the way it will go. If it adjusts which it will as I had to update mileage then whatever is in there at the time of collection counts.
Could be lucky!
What happens in the dark on a motorway in good conditions ?
Drivers know from tail lights further up the road that all is well beyond the range of the lights, but can the Tesla cameras also work this out?
Not worth getting done until 30 days before collection. But, it’s also no harm as it gives you an idea where their current figures are.
I wasn't, was tipping along at 100, my point being the cameras were blocked/blinded because of the fog so the reversing solution via the cameras would not have worked as they use the same cameras
On standard "autopilot" its about the same as most other ADAS i've driven. Patchy, inconsistent, regularly switching off. My ID.3 would disable ADAS when a leaf blocked an ultrasonic sensor. Forward cameras less likely to be blocked as they are swept by the wipers.
Is there a 'dumb' cruise control setting? Where the car just maintains a set speed regardless of conditions and other traffic and the driver does the driving bit.
@ds20prefecture - "On standard "autopilot" its about the same as most other ADAS i've driven. Patchy, inconsistent, regularly switching off. "
That's the opposite of my experience of using autopilot on my own car for the last year. Works perfectly fine in the dark, mind I would have used it almost solely on motorways in the dark (both lit and unlit motorways). My car is a facelift Model S with AP3 with FSD with HW3 though, not sure what car your experience is in.
Consistent, reliable, never switching off. Not so much in bad weather though.
That said the Tesla Autopilot "vision" in the dark or in poor weather or in badly or unmarked roads was inferior to the open source comma.ai's "Open Pilot" system I had installed in my previous pre-AP Tesla, which was perfect in all those circumstances...
