OK, your a manager or business owner.
A new policy is introduced in the work place.
Like with anything some employees won't be happy.
Some will carry on even if they disagree.
Others will have an issue with it and may rise the issue with you. Which is fine.
However would you really want an employee who'd harrase you or other staff at a work function and then if you did suspend them with pay they kept on turning up for work?

That doesn't asnwer the question you were asked either - which was "what discrimination?" - you seem to have difficulty in actually specifically deifning it. I'm sure Enoch thinks he has grounds, and I'm sure he will ask the courts to rule on it, but that doesn't actually mean there is any. And I've yet to read of one.
And if you're not a religious scholar and you think you need to be, then you're claim that he was infringed (post 1698 in case you feel the need to ask) is debunked and we can move on.
Well, the whole point is to choose yourself - so no. With non-binary, there's no treatment or medication. It's saying you're NOT something rathe than you ARE something.
But back on topic, no one's actually mentioned the student being trans in the media.
School policy going against his religious beliefs does not amount to discrimination though as it doesn't materially affect him or his person which is what you seem to be saying he has a case for.

I'd have someone as an employee who can do their job well and who is honest, straight and who you know where you stand with. I'd prefer that greatly to the dubious character shown by some who have posted on this thread...

Yes, and there are procedures for dealing with complaints about school policies and freedom. Shouting at your principal and making a scene at a school function and refusing to use a child's preferred pronoun are not the procedures for that. He got fired for those things, not for his religious beliefs.
I wonder would he have had a better shot at getting a hearing if he'd gone through the proper channels? He could have argued that the policy impinged on his religious beliefs. For certain, handling things the Burke way was always going to end like it did.
Doing the job well first involves following procedures, following policy and obeying instructions from managers, doesn't it?

Yes, he would. The correct thing to do was to follow the policy under protest, having done so for a week or so, I am sure the mental stress would have caused him to be ill, certified sick leave and a claim for discrimination could have followed. Wouldn't have generated the headlines though.
I don't think he would have won , but as an exercise in drawing attention to his worldview and forcing a conversation on the topic it would absolutely been a far more successful approach.
Imagine the chain of events -
Had he done that calmly and professionally , he would have had lots of support from like-minded groups both inside and outside Ireland and would have drawn lots of media attention with Pro and Con articles being written and read across the country.
It could actually have been an important conversation starter about the position of Religion in society , he might not have liked the outcome but we've probably missed out on having that discussion as a society for now because of Enochs behaviour.
He has drawn lots of media attention but instead of it being about the legal limits of "Religious exemptions" or whatever , the media focus has been entirely on his and his families complete inability to behave in a normal fashion and their refusal to engage with Society and the laws of the land.
There's no requirement to be undergoing treatment or taking medication (or to even plan to/ have a desire to) to be accepted as trans. It just means you are not 'cis', which non-binary would fall under

That depends on the business Blanch. We're not all cogs in the machine of state or large commercial enterprises. There is value in people of principle & personal integrity.
I know medicatrion is not always a a part of transitioning, my point is it's never a part of being non-binary.
And trans does not mean 'not cis' in the same way Irish does not mean 'not Brittish.
My point is that if enoch turned this into a trans issue when the student wasn't trans and then decided to spend four months in prison and lose his job over it, he's an idiot. Also ignorant for not knowing the difference.

It's not about whether the student is trans or not, it's about the school's policy regarding use of pronouns,
It is a school we are talking about. Following policy and procedures is basically the first requirement of all employees.
