I wonder how this will work out for him

That’s not an accurate analogy. He wasn’t required to transition himself.
Maybe a better one would be a Jewish or Muslim teacher being required to recognise that pork is eaten. It would be a non-issue.
It wasn’t my analogy, I doubt pork in the canteen is any more accurate. Analogies are used to illustrate a point, or make it easier to understand, they aren’t always exact.
Feeling they were and actually being so are two completely different things. If you read or listen to any of the Burkes’ own reporting in their unsuccessful case against their lifetime suspension from societies in NUIG, you will see that their repeated claim of religious discrimination is core to their case. Yet this was not upheld by the courts.
One can’t just use one’s religious convictions to justify any type of behaviour, and then claim that one’s beliefs are being infringed upon when one is challenged. Real life doesn’t work that way.
I havent been keeping up
Is the school looking for its legal costs against him and want a charge on his assets or something?
No they want temporary control in order to dissuade him from further breaching the order to stay away from the school as opposed to being put in prison again
Ah....keep causing problems it could cost you sort of thing.
Saw a tweet on the topic which said if Enoch did his real pronouns on his social media it would say
Mammy's / Boy ¦ Castlebar, Mayo
Again - child is not transgender - would be more like if it was meat and a vegetarian teacher complained.
We do understand why it affected him so much - because he and his family have some strange need to control the lives of the rest of us, particularly any aspect of our lives vaguely related to sexuality.
If that's true, he's a bigger idiot than I thought if that's the case, as there wasn't any transgender to begin with.
Imagine picking this hill to die on and then looking over and finding out you actually climbed the wrong hill.
And as far as I can tell, his religious beliefs were not infrigned - but feel free to tell me what specific right was infringed...
As far as I know, 'non binary' falls under the transgender umbrella, so...
They claim to be different - for one thing there's no transition involved and the whole point of non-binary is not conform rather than change. If anything, they'd come under the queer umbrella
Not really.
Here is one simple explanation for the difference between someone who is non-binary, and someone who is transgender.
You'd regret hiring them. At some point you'd have someone around who was an unmarried parent or gay or something that just offends his sensibilities and he'd go nuts. It could be a family member, friend or client. It's a minefield of potential conflicts.
Why would you assume that I have any insight into his religious beliefs? It is clear to everyone that Enoch Bourke is of the opinion that his religious beliefs are being infringed, it has literally been stated as the reason for his objection to transgenderism and the school’s policy since day one of this debacle. Are you not aware of that?
Well you wrote, "We may not understand why it affected him so much because most of us are probably not ECs, but it is factually incorrect to say no one’s religious beliefs were infringed, his were."
As far as I can tell the second half of that statement is incorrect as no rights were infringed. I am open to correction on this, though if you can find something in the constitution.
I have never claimed his rights were infringed, if you think I have, quote the post. Whether his rights were infringed will be for a Court to decide.
I don’t claim to be a religious scholar, but I am on solid ground when I say that Enoch Bourke’s religious beliefs (not rights) have been infringed. How do I know this? Because he told us. ECs have entrenched views on homosexuality and transgenderism based on their religious beliefs.
Honestly, this has all been covered in the media, and in Court from day one, his objection to the school policy is founded in his religious beliefs.
He has no right to control the lives of other people. He has the obligation to do his job as a teacher, treating all students with respect and dignity.
No doubt he will be asking a Court to decide if what you just posted holds true.
He doesn't have any basis to compel a court to decide that.
He and his family can't just get the law to rule on figments of their imagination.
How at this stage is that confusing anyone?
It’s at times like this we should have all cobbled together and paid one of our local users to be at the school this morning to give live reports as to whether or not he has turned up there this morning
whats the bets that enoch tursn up to school today?
I've already explained. "It" doesnt refer to a person so isnt apt or appropriate.
I’d doubt he will - legally he has no reasonable excuse to be on those school grounds now, just like you or I don’t either. I think he’s very aware of that too.
But the logical conclusion then is literally everyday his beliefs are infringed. When someone has sex outside marriage his beliefs are infringed. Sooo many things infringe his beliex; sex, abortion, marriage, transition...
If a student asked him what's the German word for "abortion", could he refuse to tell them as he doesn't believe in abortion? It could be great craic winding him up in his classroom (not to mention incredibly easy!)
Well he could go to the grounds to hand over his appeal documents, he has 10 days to appeal so him doing so in person wouldnt surprise me.
You have just decided what the Court can and cannot rule on. People ask Courts to rule on cases of discrimination all the time. Whether he succeeds or not is another matter.
How is that remotely related to a work place dispute? And yes, all those things may infringe EVs beliefs, but how many of them relate to school policy?
If same sex parents came to a meeting with him to discuss their child, would he refuse to meet them?
