Do a student council represent all students? In my day we called it the licks club because you only got on it if you licked up to the teachers and principal. I suspect nothing has changed in regard to the composition of those members.
Enoch doesn't believe in his own ideology, he believes in mammy's ideology.
No, there is no interpretation necessary. Pronouns and their use have been discussed extensively on the thread already.
I'm still waiting for your response to the question I put to you about God knowing what they are doing, when they "create" (your word) intersex babies - which you've notably ignored and avoided answering so far.
I suppose your answer to that must be "I don't know" too.
All any of us has is our own interpretation of God's word. If he exists at all.
I think this article from the Examiner does a good job of explaining how the Burkes continue to be their own worst enemies.
As the article explains had Enoch Burke simply kept his mouth shut and allowed his objections to flow through the official complaints/appeals process be could have brought the actual issues around the limits of Religious freedom etc. all the way to the Supreme court with all of the profile that a case like that would bring.
Instead it just became a complete circus because of his entire families "inability to get out of their own way" as Mick Clifford from the Examiner puts it.
What a coward.
But we're not taking about "God's word". We're talking about using pronouns.
But nice attempt at deflection.
Come back to me when you're prepared to answer the question I asked you.
He has a thing for ignoring letters.
So odds on, he's back tomorrow. At which point, I'd let the students talk to him - they'll be more direct, I'd imagine..
What an interesting family!
Highly intelligent, but seemingly unable to interact with others in Society who do not adhere to the narrow Burke theology.
We now have Enoch managing to "constructively dismiss" himself from a lifetime job in reasonably well regarded secondry school.
His sister managed to do the same from probably the most famous law firm in the country, Arthur Cox.
I wait to see what Issac will do in Maynooth!
How would a Dr. of Mathematics and Statistics contrive to be insulted enough to cause the University to dismiss him?
I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that one of them was doing medicine and ran into trouble there was well. Can’t find reference to it online but I have a recollection of him/her being unable to complete the course due to issues which arose.
Might be thinking of when Isaac went to court due to a delay regarding something to do with his PhD.
No it was medicine, there are a few more offspring who don’t make the news. I could be wrong though.
I don't know you could never be sure.
When the Booleans and the Elementary crowd take at it things can get out of hand very quickly.
🙂
The guy is clearly unhinged. It makes you worry about what he was teaching his sudents over the years before all this lunacy started.
What was he doing when he was “attending” school in defiance of the court order? Just sitting in a corridor or something?
odd, odd behaviour.
Back before he was jailed for Contempt, he was "occupying a classroom" which tied up a room and possibly also a member of staff to watch him.
In January just past, he was "confined to a corridor", again probably neccessating a member of staff to be present to observe/supervise him.
Prior to his stint in Prison he was sitting in an empty classroom and then after he got out over the Christmas the school basically put a chair in an empty corridor which was closed off to Students and had him just sit there with another Staff member sitting at the other end making sure that Burke didn't go wandering.
Utter pantomime.
Im guessing if he shows up tomorrow he will be simply done for trespassing?
It is not it's a collective pronoun. The pronoun's are
I
You
He
She
It
We
They.
''You'' is singular and collective. ''We'' and ''They'' are collective, ''It'' is singular non binary.
'They' can be both singular and plural.
That's how I see it too. No other way.
'They' is perfectly cromulent when referring to a person whose gender (or whatever you want to call it) is unknown. Imo of course.
"Dear sir or madam..." Dog be with the old days.
Not really. It is quite often used to refer to cis males or cis females too. Im sure I could find hundreds of examples on this site not referring in a trans context.
They can be used as singular or plural
You should use "they" not "it".
Obligatory:
Ive never seen it used in reference to cisgender males and females on this site, I have seen it used in relation to posters whose gender is unknown to the person writing the post though.
Yes, one question. Who do you and others here represent exactly - some sort of vigilante group? Like the Klu Klux Klan? Because that's how ye come across.
Consider the sentence:
”There’s a person at the door.”
Which is the most correct and expected response?
“What do they want?”
or
”What does it want?”
”They” has been used as a singular pronoun in English for about 700 years. This very modern trend of denying this simple fact is absurd.
..
That is an example of a third person singular pronoun where gender is unknown or irrelevant because you don’t know who the person is.
