The key elements include six high speed charging hubs on motorways capable of charging eight vehicles simultaneously; 16 high speed charging hubs capable of charging four vehicles simultaneously; additional high power chargers at 34 current 50 kW locations; upgrading over 50 22 kW chargers to 50 kW, and replacing up to 264 locations with 528 charge points at the pre-existing pilot grade of 22 kW to next generation high reliability models.
Is it possible ESB are just replacing the charger? Those older units are probably getting close to the end of their lifetime and might need to be cycled out for maintenance
Too proactive to be ecars.
No.
in their Facebook post they mentioned the unit is being removed (and didn’t say it was being replaced, which they would normally do for any sites being upgraded), and they also replied to a comment on the post asking if it was being replaced and they said no as Applegreen are running the show there now….
Interested to see what happens now. Applegreen are an actual business so won't be messing around, unlike ecars.
Most likely we'll see them continue to expand in shopping centre car parks as eCars are locked out of service stations. I expect we'll start to see a number of chargers pop up in Supervalu car parks.
I seem to recall hearing easygo had/have a deal with supervalu?
Looks like it wasn't exclusive, we've had two recent eCars charging stations installed at Supervalu's in South Dublin. I think Easygo look to have the host site pay for the install and do profit sharing whereas eCars just look for low rent spaces that they can use.
And remember too SuperValu’s are all franchises, so they effectively operate independently of one another… so Im not sure how set in stone any deal or announcement EasyGo had made with them was…
Think that's right. I did hear the Musgrave group had some EasyGo deal, but I also 100% know that a Musgrave group store approached both EasyGo and ecars to get a unit installed. Think they went EasyGo in the end (WIP, not installed yet).
Not new but looks like these are 100kW units (Delta-SL100) with 4 CCS connectors (according to the Ecars app).
Plugshare showing these as 50kW units, can someone confirm and update?
Very useful for people travelling between Galway and Dublin, as they are only 10 minutes from Galway plaza and the motorway.
I'd say their limited at the moment (50kw) 2 CSS, AC not operational.
*Correction the units have been changed now double CSS chargers so are probably 100kw as per the app too.
When you sign up for eCars, do they automatically send you out a card or do you have to explicitly request one?
(Found the answer) You get one when you sign up if you top up by €20

The photos you linked to are Circontrol Raption chargers which are max 50kW, and only one plug at a time - so not shared.
The app is listing them as 2 Delta SL100 with 4 CCS plugs available. Maybe the Circontrol's were swapped out.
I think those photos are out of date even though they were taken a couple of months ago.
My wife was able to charge 43 kW in just over 30 minutes at the weekend which suggests 100kW, these must have been changed fairly recently, so I think the Plugshare app probably needs to be updated.
It's a handy location just 10 minutes from Galway Plaza which can be quite busy at times.
Loughrea is by far now the best served town on the island for DC charging..... There are whole counties that don't have as many DC chargers as this little town in Galway has.... and you don't even have to travel far outside town to find an eCars '''''hub''''' at Galway Plaza...
I'm guessing some of the eCars big wigs or Anna holiday there and want to impress the locals....
Seriously though, why so much focus on such a small and ordinary town?
Donegal/Waterford/(insert underserved county here) EV drivers be like;
Anna has a holiday home there and sometimes hosts the EU grant givers, so wants to make a good impression.
Bald?
Yeah, from pulling their hair out at why a small town in Galway has so many chargers, and they have none!!
My apologies, it does make sense as 4 spaces for 2 cars to charge was excessive.
I wonder are the Delta 100kW SL100s now the default charger where there more power to play with. Its a better balance than a 150kW Delta and a 50kW like at Monaghan.
Pat Mcdonagh (Mr supermac's) would have a fair bit to do with that majority of the chargers are at his establishments. I think the easygo one (located in the big award winning SuperValu) have been shut off since the 4 chargers have been put in in the new supermacs plaza next door.
Its not such a little town plenty going on there pay it a visit you might like it. You can even go for a swim in the lake while it's charging😜.
Was up north at the weekend we think we have it bad charger wise here.
Did stop in Monaghan on the way up got chargers easily but queue did build up with a Mach E hogging one after fully charging.
Chargers are great but the circle K there is a kip.
Its not such a little town plenty going on there pay it a visit you might like it.
I do indeed like it.. I spent plenty of time there building the power station around the corner in Tynagh many moons ago!!
Same reason as eCars put chargers anywhere, they've got site owners who are willing to work with them.
Yes, but admittedly that started when I was driving the petrol car 😂
I saw a leaf owner complaining the loughrea 100kW site has no ChaDeMo cable at all now! There are other chademo options in the town but as said the easygo one seem to be offline for months.
Is this the first only CCS only esb site, looks so.
Wouldn't it be great if that Loughrea hub was in Galway Plaza, I presume there are site constraints or maybe the plaza group is causing a delay there to upgrade?
I need to drive Wicklow to Castlebar in a couple of weeks to arrive early morning so taking a 20min round trip off the motorway wouldn't be great. Will probably have to stop a bit early in Athlone Ionity and top up from a fairly high SOC. Would be nice to have a motorway hub between Athlone and Tuam.
It's the first CCS only yes, it's not too bad really since it's Loughrea, a town that already has a 3 car "hub" at the Galway Plaza, an easygo nearby and a 50kW triple head by the council offices
There's a 150kW CCS connection at the Galway Plaza, depending on your car it could get you up and running 50% faster than the 100kW on the Athenry road
That Loughrea hub is part of the Plaza group which own Galway Plaza and another hub in Tuam I think.
They obviously think there is money to be made from EV owners which is understandable when you see the price of some of the newer EVs
Yeah I had looked at the 150kW but it's the 1x 150kW vs 4x 100kW setup which is making me jealous of the Loughrea hub. Also the 150kW seems to be running slow (40-75kW, even last summer) according to plugshare.
I didn't realise that, must be a site constraint then I guess... or maybe Galway plaza might get an upgrade to something like Tuam/Loughray soon!?
