I waited 4 weeks but that was because of the Christmas holidays

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭Charliesha92

Yeah hopefully it works for me too. I have no idea what I will be offered but I am hoping it’s better than what I’m doing. If not I suppose I will have to just stay where I am.

Don’t forgot in October to keep checking the public jobs website to see when the next CO comp is live and also you can email CO2022@publicjobs.ie and request a copy of your interview notes at any time. That’s what I done and I re studied all the questions I was asked last time. I got a higher OOM this time around.

Good Luck and hope it works out for you 💪🏻

@Charliesha Thank you so much. I didn't even know you could do that

Excited yet anxious at the same time to see where I (we) get, have sent my employment statements in and waiting on my Garda vetting just over a week now, just hope I get something I like and that has at least a couple of days WFH.

So the qualifying score was 2180 and my friend got near 6000, just wondering how I can tell where about hes fallen in terms of a timeline of likely to be contacted, Jan, Feb etc...

Does anyone know where things are at with me?

Been provisionally allocated a position in Dublin with PAS, does this mean providing the clearance is all good I'll be starting soon?

I know it sounds desperate but thing is, my current job is affecting my mental health so badly & I really need to move asap, would you say it's worth resigning or should I hang on until I hear back about the clearance?

I've submitted most of the clearance documents aside from a UK police certificate which they have allowed more time for given the postage.

Just really confused with the length of time & lack of clarity, haven't worked in civil service before & only been in Ireland for a year.

    Would really appreciate any thoughts

Clearance shouldn't be much longer so absolutely hang on for the time being, I reckon if everything goes well you should be in a new job in 4-6 weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭Sinradler

As the poster above says, you could be in the new job in 4-6 weeks. I would say, if you can afford to quit sooner, your mental health is absolutely the most important thing. You certainly wouldn't be penalised by the CS if you told them you had quit your job to take a break before you take up your new post.

In terms of the UK police cert, I was emailed on 09/01/23 to say they had posted mine out, and it still hasn't arrived due to the backlog, if that's of any help. Best of luck and mind yourself.

When you know you have a new job lined up your mental health will improve, I'm like that now when finance is wrecking my head I'm just laughing knowing I'll be gone soon.

    What's their order of merit?

I really appreciate that, thanks for the response.

Maybe overthinking it, just need to be sure I'll have a job to go into. Might just hang on for another week or so then before handing notice in.

They didn't yet ask for references, only statements of employment. Will they ask for that later?

I think only one other document missed the 16th deadline for clearance submission as one of my previous employers took a while to send a statement of employment. Would this be a stumbling block?

Mine was posted two days prior to the suspension so the delay shouldn't be too much longer. I imagine it will get up and running again fairly soon.

Can anyone tell me is an open TCO contract in DSP a good contract to be offered? How long would open TCO contracts tend to last?

Hi everyone, starting in my new role as CO shortly and looking forward to it. However, I seen today that the competition for the Graduate Opportunities is opening again this Friday. I missed out on this the last time a few months ago as I didn’t see it until the night it closed. I’m really interested in this as I’ve recently finished a masters. Does anyone know is it ok to apply for this or would this not be allowed or frowned upon as I know I’m under probation in the new role for one year.

    Thanks in advance

Hi I’m the same. Is it the same as the competition a few months ago or for specific degrees. Thought it was strange as there’s usually only one graduate competition in oct/nov, not this time of year.

    Hi

I was on an open contract with DSP , everyone will tell you your basically permanent as your job is there as it's busy and with the DSP it's always crazy busy ! Once there for five years on open contract you become permanent. You would apply for CO Clerical open panels that come up while on the open to become permanent faster

You can apply for the new comp or any comp. The great thing about the civil service is they like to see staff moving up in their careers and are very supportive. Noone takes these things personally.

That’s great thanks for the response.

That’s great thanks, I’ve heard great things about support with promotion etc but I was a bit worried about putting in a new application before I’ve even started.

Anyone else on the "long wait" between interview and results?

Sitting here thinking just tell me I failed already. I can't deal with my stomach dropping anymore everytime I think about the shambles of an interview.

Question to anyone who has worked in Welfare as a CO or TCO is it a good department to work in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,325 ✭✭✭iLikeWaffles

A bad interview is likely a good one. Better than being confidant about the interview, it is possible to come across as cocky if you think it was a good interview. Not many people interview well who are totally capable of performing on the job. It is normal to think it went badly when it probably didn't actually, hang on in there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,936 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Exactly this and it's pretty hard to fail at the interview unless you were really really terrible and just couldn't answer any question - they understand its a tense situation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 Mariekk123

I absolutely loved working in welfare , so interesting and you learn so much ! It's full on and you work but it's great , good luck
