the colour choice is missing the 2 new colours that are available from Germany ( Quicksilver and Midnight Cherry Red) so it points towards China
Thanks for that. Great real world info.
I've two but only one car 🤣. One was going free with the MG so I took it for down the line when we eventually have two EVs.
They balance, so if two cars plug in, they get half power and it takes both twice as long.
The benefit being if one car is topped up after two hours then all the power is diverted to the other and you don't have to mess about with swapping them over.
I think I’m just gonna install an outside socket and charge her PHEV on the granny charger once or twice a week. €700 is an additional chunk of car mileage compared to a €20 socket..
Except when you decide you suddenly need to be somewhere quick and have no charge.
The PHEV has an engine to sort that. No problem whatsoever.
You just have to enter your final destination and the car will automatically route you via a supercharger if required and takes care of the preheating automatically (can start an hour before in this weather). If you're a bit nervous on the first run about the battery calibration/range etc you can manually add a stop at Enfield on the way. Toll should be free 2nd time in the same direction if you have a tag .
You have a very light foot.
In a M3, not a MY which should be less effecient.
I do the Galway to Dublin run every month and the best I have seen is 60% used (summer), at 120km/hr with the worst being 75% used on a cold wet winters day.
Ac and seat heaters on with 3 in the car.
I misread that. Thought you meant the Y
I suspect you will change your mind. The speed with a granny charger (clue is in the name) is ridiculously low approx 3 miles per hour. This is not what you want to rely on as primary way to charge. Bear in mind also that a new EV charger has an SEAI grant of 600.. Spending so much on a car and hesitating on a charger is not wise..
My reading of the poster is that they have a charger for the BEV and will granny charge the PHEV.
Charging a PHEV with a granny is not gona be a problem. My parents charge theirs with the granny nightly. They never use their home charger.
2.3kw/h May be more than enough on a PHEV. The car may only have a 10 kWh battery
Just works based on how they park in their garden.
It has a 14kw battery but hopefully it would only need the granny charger once a week, twice at max.
What car and what’s the daily use?
My other half has a 9.2 kWh 530e and that needs charging nightly to get through the next day in this weather.
Correct, Iv a test drive booked for saturday. The rep told me its a china MY. Definitely not 4850.
Only left hand drives are being produced out of Germany right now.
If they decide to go right hand drive then thats another 10-15% off the cost ( no duty which accumulates with vat/vrt)
I stand to be corrected here, but i was told this battery coming in the china varient can be charged to 100% more regularly and for some reason, the car is more efficient. Is this the CATL battery? 128wh/km is common at 100km/hr.
The RWD can be charged to 100% daily. It’s the LFP battery. It’s also in the RWD in Germany and the US.
The only factory making the new colours is Germany and only in LHD variant.
It’s a Kuga. She uses the Zappi for approx 2.5 hours - 3 hours at night.
I’ll need the Zappi for one evening and she can use the Granny charge on that night. Depends on the mileage I might need the Zappi for a second evening.
Certainly not light footed. And definitely agree MY should be less efficient than M3. Summer is usually around 170-178 wH/km at 120km/hr. Winter anywhere between 180-220wH/km.
I wonder do you have a RWD M3 (standard range)? That might explain the difference in percentage consumption. My MY is a LR (as they still haven't delivered the RWD versions yet). I would have assumed a LR M3 would have better numbers compared to mine.
I know no one has a crystal ball, but what ballpark depreciation are the MY orderers expecting to see over the next 1/2/3 years? I know the grant is a bit of a factor, but ignoring that what are you expecting? Second hand prices have been messed up in recent years with supply, but surely that element is slowly sorting itself out now? Are you assuming a basic MY to drop € 10K in 3 years maybe?
When you fill out the online test drive form it will give you the option of Sandyford or Mahon shopping centre, Cork. Be aware though the test drive is now from beside Tesco at Douglas shopping centre. You will get a confirmation call after you book with directions to the correct Cork location. As of last week they only had a LR MY for testing, so I cancelled.

its a small thing but really handy, especially with free charging at work. Charge to 100% there before the weekend and can let it sit at that level. Currently will always make sure I’m at least down to 90 before parking for the night.
If the grant disappears completely, presuming there will be no further Tesla price cuts (I'm not expecting any), then I'd expect the first year depreciation on a Model Y to be around the zero mark.
Cheers for that but I am not getting any Cork option on the drop-down. Will try again tomorrow.
I think you will get the option on the second page of the form, once you have submitted page one, where you have to upload pics of your driving licence.
Thanks. I will check it out.
This is the set up that I have.
Tesla 7kW charger and granny charger off outside socket.
If you have 2 x 7kW chargers then they need to be able to 'talk' to each other to limit the load. If both chargers were on full (32 Amps) then they would draw 64Amps which is the max load for your house board (it could trip..)
7kW charger and granny cable together is fine... (32A + 12 A = 44A)
Mike
To get the 32a you need a commando socket though. The OP seems to be talking about a normal 13a outdoor socket.
Worth noting with the commando socket you still need cabling back to the consumer unit and the appropriate RCBO, most likely 40a.
I had the same set up for over a year providing 32a charging.
Yes, I was speaking about a standard 3pin socket.
I like the idea of the 32amp commando but it has no overload controls so I assume this will automatically take priority and the Zappi will ramp up/down as required. Im swaying towards the standard 3pin socket though as I also have a heat pump which pops on for a few hours at night also to heat the tank.
Too many variables to know for sure. I'm planning to hold on to it for a long time so not overly concerned about depreciation. When the time comes it will be easy enough to sell or trade I'd imagine. How much it is worth at that stage is anyone's guess.
Folks, potentially stupid questions incoming.
Tesla wasn't even on our radar due to cost until last week. We are waiting since last Feb for a ZS but they have no idea when it might arrive. The MY is now firmly on our radar.
I've been through the various options online, RWD option with towbar is likely our target. Is there any simple listing of what the base model has in terms of spec? I found the manual but no simple spec sheet.
Thanks in advance
