Thats an odd one. DL221 - Paris - Salt Lake City was around the west coast of Scotland and is now diverting to Madrid. A strange diversion if ever I've seen one. Surprised they didn't go into Shannon, but it is very windy today.

...and not taking an over-land/land-hugging route either as it seems to be lining up to fly over Cork directly to Madrid. It must be some odd procedural thing or perhaps they have spare capacity on a flight from there just now?
That reason IMO isn't great because it certainly wasn't freezing in Ireland today, but anyway.
It's reported on the Aviation Herald, which is a reputable source, though expressed somewhat differently. Presumably the people at Delta made their decision based on all of the information available to them.
But it would have been a few thousand feet in the air and that's the point. At cruise altitude it's so cold you don't need it either. It's the layer in between.
I guess cold plus cloud is your enemy in this instance so they were trying to land somewhere with clear skies?
Boeing 747-41R Reg N744VG used by Virgin Orbit for their failed 9th Jan mid flight rocket drop over Irish territorial waters, the flight itself in FR24

Irish territorial waters extend out to 12 nautical miles. Was it that close?
Believe so - https://imgur.com/jJIkDVu
That's not territorial waters it's the EEZ.
Cool stuff, you learn something new each day
A few nice ones into Shannon today

What's going on with BA2263/BAW23K? Back to Dublin and not Shannon.
(Edit: Flightradar said Dublin but looks to be back to London)

Medical emergency apparently.
Makes sense - I see it dropped to 10,000 ft. I only noticed as I heard it and normally they're at cruising altitude.
ARN139, Aeronexus Corporate, SNN-MLE.
Interesting visitor.
R118 just flew over, seems to be hovering over westport, seems to be following the river which isnt a good sign.
Just passing over Waterford city at the moment is a Singapore Airlines flight from JFK heading for Singapore Changi.... 17.5 hours flight, long time in the air.
Flown on a A350 ULR which is the longest range airliner in use today. Extra tank(s) and no economy seating I believe.
Yes, the SG A350 ULRs have a total of 161 seats, made up of Business and Premium Economy.
Paris to Boston flight diverting to Dublin. Just flew pretty low over the southside.
The great circle route JFK - SIN goes almost directly over the North Pole, so that's a hell of a big detour to avoid Russian airspace.
Strange it landed on the North runway.
The NYC-SIN flights frequently came this way even before the war. When the route was operated by A345s it was a common sight over Dublin. I assume winds have a lot to do with the route chosen on a given day.
Came in pretty hot whatever the issue was, all other traffic was put into a holding pattern until they were down.
Is that the first airline to land on 28R?
