America has administered its first Lethal injection of 2023 to a transgender woman.
Why is a first world country still putting its citizens to death, particularly using a one drug method
So what your saying is America executed a mentally ill person ,
Hardly news or a first is it ,
If euthanasia was legalised in a country with the death penalty, would a lifetime in prison qualify someone for it? In countries that have euthanasia you have to prove you are mentally sound and capable of understanding the decision. Do criminals have the right and is a lifetime in prison unbearable suffering to the same degree as being incapacitated by illness?
I'm against the death penalty, I think there's no place for it in a modern society. I also think people should have a right to choose to die if they are fit to make that decision. Would choosing to die be escaping justice?
Had an easier death than the person who was murdered.
Getting it wrong once is once too many.
Where did you get that idea?
The woman who was murdered you mean.
A man murdered a woman.
3 years ago as his execution date grew ever nearer, and with a huge wave of sympathy for the trans community sweeping the world, he decided he was actually a woman.
I will draw my own conclusions from that sudden turn of events, you are free to draw your own.
What difference does that make?
What idea ?
That they were mentally ill.
Which is why the death penalty is seen as a more humane punishment by many people, rather than locking someone up for the rest of their life.
This is why I would be in favor of the death penalty for certain crimes. Locking people up for the rest of their life is extremely cruel and inhumane treatment, and far too many people in society gain pleasure and enjoyment from this practice. It's sickening really. The state should not involve itself in such sadistic practices... much better to just humanely put someone down, just like you might a dangerous animal.
You're missing the point though. If you were exonerated after being locked up for a period, you wouldn't be spending your life in prison as you'd be freed at some stage.
Kind of hard to do if you'd been executed.
I can hear the man with harmonica song playing while the fingers are nervously hovering above the report button…
The death penalty is more about justice and "moral hazard" than anything else. Families of victims want revenge, understandably so.
But then look at all the people who tend to be angry that the person won't be in prison, like they've gotten a reprieve from punishment... "Oh death is too good for them, they should be rotting in a jail cell for the rest of their sorry existence!" etc etc.
Clearly, for a great many people, the death sentence is viewed as an easy way out. And prison time is seen as a better way to exact punishment or revenge for the evil deed.
Imagine you took the same view with your neighbour's dog who killed your son/daughter? "Oh death is too good for that horrible mean dog, lock him in a cage for next 10 years and let him rot!" You would quite rightly be seen as a cruel and sadistic person, incapable of acting in a humane manner because you have been overcome with rage and anger!
The death penalty is far more humane in many circumstances.
Many people do argue that life without parole is cruel. Sure look at sentences in Ireland and the UK for violent crimes compared to the US, it's a huge difference.
It isn't.
It would be if you would answer any of those questions posed.
Would you accept that you would be hypocritical if you didn't consider Rachel Dolezal an African American because she identified as one, yet would accept Caitlyn Jenner as a man because she identified as one?
Where in your mind is the tipping point of acceptance to another's "reality"?
The line is where ever the PC brigade tell him/her it is , this week ,
God forbid people think for themselves or answering questions on there merit without worrying what someone else might think of them even if there answer makes sense,
You can be whoever or whatever you want to be as long as you don't harm anyone but please leave me out of the silly games of making well thought out opinions invalid because they may hurt someone's feelings,
Do those situations happen very often, or at all?
People believing they are something they are not happens quite often.
Do you agree that it is right or wrong to acknowledge and accept their beliefs as truth in all cases or just when it comes to transgenderism?
The situations outlined about Cork, Dutch, Chinese people- do they happen much?
It was a different poster that posed that question and they were perhaps a little too specific which made it easier for you to give a non answer.
So I repeat:
"People believing they are something they are not happens quite often.
Do you agree that it is right or wrong to acknowledge and accept their beliefs as truth in all cases or just when it comes to transgenderism?"
I've no problem with the death penalty for murderers and paedos. Would save our state a fortune aswell so we can put more ukranians up in hotels and give them medical cards, and all sorts of welfare payments.
So you definitely haven’t come across any such Cork, Dutch, Chinese scenarios yourself then?
Not those specific scenarios, but have encountered many scenarios where people's self perception did not tally with reality.
Would you mind answering my question? Is transgenderism the only belief which is contrary to biology/fact that you accept as reality because of the belief of the individual? And if so, why?
No its was an example of how people can believe something that is not reality to be true,
The experiences & manifestations of mental illness are influenced by and individuals social & cultural background It can determine how individuals communicate their symptoms, influence their understanding of their illness, and determine the coping strategies they adopt and the type of interventions they seek.
My example was just to simplify the question ,
I’m not sure about what ‘transgenderism’ is. The term seems to have emerged from US far right circles as a generally derogatory term, to help them to continue their efforts to oppress and marginalise trans people. Merriam Webster defines an ‘ism’ as;
1 : a distinctive doctrine, cause, or theory
2: an oppressive and especially discriminatory attitude or belief
The existence of trans people doesn’t fit either of these categories, so I can’t comment on such a nonsensical term.
I can confirm that trans people exist. Their existence has been noted as far back as biblical times. There is a century of medical evidence outlining the phenomenon, and how people were treated. I know trans people, I’ve met other trans people occasionally. Trans people exist.
It really doesn’t look like it was an attempt to simplify. It looks more like it was an attempt to ridicule, by making nonsensical comparisons.
Trans people exist. There is no question to be debated or awaiting your approval.
Trans people exist.
If it was about what is humane the prisoner would have death as a choice. As it is, people go to great effort to avoid the death penalty.
Nobody is denying there are people who "identify" as trans.
Again, you seem to be saying that I am denying there are people who "identify" as trans.
You're absolutely trying to circumnavigate the question with your merriam webster talk though (and wholly laughable that you want to use definitions of words when it suits....)
But to placate you and to hopefully get an honest response, I will change my wording
Would you mind answering my question? Is the belief of trans people regarding their identity the only belief which is contrary to biology/fact that you accept as reality because of the belief of the individual? And if so, why?
Your “identify as” in quotes gives your game away, a further attempt to delegitimise the lives of others.
This isn’t about beliefs. Your question is an entirely false premise, and is entirely irrelevant to this discussion.
Trans people exist. They don’t need your permission or approval.
