Feel the need to pee a lot

For weeks now I've had the need to pee a lot. My doctor tested a urine sample which was clear. I did a course of antibiotics to be sure there was no infection. No improvement so I started Betmiga but still no noticeable improvement. I could hold it for six hours or ten minutes but it's always on my mind to the extent that I'm not comfortable going out.

Any thoughts?

Male or female? Age? If male , have you had a PSA blood test or DRE test?

What did they test the urine for? Don't take an answer of "it's clear" find out what they were testing for.

Ask for a blood glucose test if they haven't done it already, although even if they have done it already get another one done.

The blood glucose would show if diabetic or not, needing to pee a lot is an indicator for that. Doing a blood glucose test is one of the simplest, quickest and cheapest tests they can do.

Likely something else, but it's a simple thing to cross off. Most useful thing though is to find out what they are actually testing you for at the moment.

I think with the PSA, you need to have been doing it for at least three years as the GP needs to establish a baseline.

Stop eating what you have eaten for those weeks. And eat something else preferable healthy for a few days to see if anything changes so you can narrow down the cause.

Think a pharmacy can do a blood glucose test for you ... or anyone you know with type 1 or type 2 diabetes can test you.

Drink plenty of water, could be a UTI, urinary tract infection, but the urine test should've shown indicators towards that. If symptoms persist go back to your doctor and ask for blood tests.

Blood glucose may be useful but a urine dipstick shows up glucose and ketones in your urine which may have reassured your GP, particularly if you don't have excess thirst and or weight change often associated with diabetes.

PSA (blood test relating to the prostate) might also be useful, it'll tell gp if it's outside usual range, physical exam of Prostate will also tell them, fifteen/twenty seconds of mild discomfort.

Enlarged prostate doesn't necessarily mean you have difficulty, and certainly not pain, passing urine, but it could affect whether you're completely emptying your bladder fully each time or not.

Probably nothing to do with the prostate but if you ask for thoughts, that's one of them.

Along with renal calculi, STDs, cystitis and probably 101 other things, unfortunately your best bet is to see your GP again.

Doubtful its an STI or infection etc. OP not being funny but could it be a mental thing? If you are busy doing something is it still on your mind? Or is it just when you are idle or heading out? Beware. Posters on here are worse than google. They'll have you calling an ambulance

My local pharmacy said they do a home testing kit. I might try this.

I have just done a test for diabetes and its called a Glucose Tolerance Test , the pharmacy test will only tell you what you blood glucose is at that particular time ,still waiting for my results (takes a week) , hope you get it sorted .

About 2 hours , take bloods after overnight fasting , drink the glucose , go away and come back in two hours and have more bloods taken

You do any cycling by any chance? I had feeling like that at one stage, eventually worked out it was saddle irritating the nerve or urethra or something like that. Doctor's didn't identify it, I just figured it out by process of elimination!

you say "for weeks now". Do you mean literally 3-4 weeks or has it been ongoing for a period of time (and getting worse)?

If its going on a few weeks, was it ok before hand?

Hi i think things are settling down. I did a week on an antibiotic called Keflex so it looks like it was an infection.

when i had it done it was as I said , fasting overnight and bloods taken before glucose and 2 hours later bloods taken again , to be honest every half hour seems more logical , but thats the way my nurse did it , and even more frightening is that she told me there are at least 15 people a month being diagnosed ,

I got my results a few days ago and it was confirmed that it was type 2 , doc put me on 500mg Metformin twice a day
