Call me crazy but I'm more interested in seeing a Konate/Gomez partnership, obviously Joe has had some major faults this year but he was also our 2nd CB next to VVD in a team that won the league with the best defensive record.
Right now Matip/Konate is a better duo, but if we give them time together and they click Gomez/Konate could be our CB duo for the next 5+ years.
They're also both lightning fast and might be the only duo capable of playing the high line we insist on atm.
Not that long ago I’d have agreed with Gomez being given the opportunity, always felt like he had the highest ceiling of any of our centre backs based on his form in 2019/20. Sadly, I just don’t have much faith left in him anymore as there have been a few too many mistakes this season.
I’m happy to see him fill in at right back when required and as a fourth choice centre back.
Konate at left CB is grand - was brilliant for France playing there at the World Cup.
It’s only been 3 games without him so far, so I’m interested to see if they can keep their form up over the longer term. With Saka and Martinelli either side, they’ve plenty of goals elsewhere though… really all comes down to keeping the injuries limited to just 1 or 2 starters. We’ve been grand with that sort of number too - it’s when it gets up to 5+ that it really takes its toll.
Oh, he plays there for France does he? Cool
(Couldn't muster any enthusiasm about the WC this year so only saw the final)
Till matip gets injured....
Both - We buy wrong and I'd question out sport science. For example, we brought in Artur when he was both injured and clearly unfit, madness. And we're squeezing every ounce out of the likes of Milly, Henderson and even Kieta when they are clearly jot able to play a lot of games in a short space of time.
Disappointing news about Virgil, not worried about Konate standing in for him on the left at all, but worried about relying on Joel game on game without much rotation.
Irish times website is saying the wolves match tomorrow is on ITV 4 - anyone know of any alternative for those of us on Virgin Media?
This is my main concern with any combination of CBs that doesn't include VVD.
It's on Premier Sports here, if you have that
Otherwise ITV Player, or whatever they call it, it pretty good if you have a vpn
It's on Premier Sports 1 in Ireland
Thanks both, have Premier Sports 1 so covered
ITV4 also available via manual tuning on Sky.
Whats concerns me is how easily 2 out of the other 3 could get small niggles themselves in that month and a bit and we could be left with midfielders in defence again and we dont have any of those to spare right now. I said a couple days ago I'd like to see Virgil on the bench for a few games where he could come on if anything strange happens, an injury is not what I had in mind.
Mid February, away to Madrid, Jo & Nat start in the Bernabau.
Nat Phillips to wow the Franco lovers with a delicately timed Cruyff turn on a bamboozled Benzema then.
Interesting article.
It is, but he does seem to take a lot of leaps with it too. I’d take it as a somewhat educated guess rather than an actual clear factual account of the situation.
Ibrahimovic has barely kicked a ball since Natinho did it to him, Benzema is on a countdown to the worst day of his life and he doesn’t even know it yet.
I see wolves are 9/1 tonight,I don't usually bet on soccer,if I did I would be tempted 😭
Natinho!! For a moment I was thinking WTF?? 🤣
Looks like we're going best available team tonight
Gakpo starts.
Full strength otherwise. Obviously an attempt at confidence boosting.
16/1 now after that liverpool team announcement
Fair bit of rotation in the Wolves team 👀
Need a relatively convincing win with Darwin and Gakpo scoring
Serious line up there..
Hopefully Cody has a good one.
On the game I actually don't know what to expect. Just some joined up intense football would be nice for a change
I think finishing any season with silverware is a bonus.
Only still in the FA Cup and CL as probable silverware so why not put out a full strength team.
It's better to see how Gakpo will play with first team players vs reserves around him.
Bit of a slap in the face for kelleher but needs must.
Not surprised, surprised at how strong we are going,I suppose try to get on a winning roll again
Straight into the first 11 for Gakpo, Klopp obviously rates him very highly.
