Just had a thought!
What if as Tesla is putting back in a radar (as from the FCC info in America) and this radar is not the same as the original. Maybe Tesla is intending to use the front radar as a normal radar but also as the front ultrasonic sensors but utilise the cameras for all else including sides back and autopilot.
That would be fairly inventive and would solve the problem of no low down front camera.
What do you think? Is that viabie?
I find the lads you meet at the sales side of things don’t really know too much. The background lads know more. The rangers or the lads in service.
@Gumbo - "They didn’t even know the MY got a new suspension recently."
Seriously? That's quite disappointing. As in fairness the Tesla sales staff are far better clued in than sales staff from most other car brands. But they wouldn't know what's going to happen in future.
One review said it was harsh. Then they all jumped on the band wagon.
I’ve been driving sports orientated cars all my life with relatively big wheels, it’s like a dream compared to them. Some people moaned about BMW MSports on 18” wheels, I kid you not if you search through the years in the motors forum.
The new suspension is seemly night and day.
How much improved is this new suspension supposed to be? Most reviews of the early MYs say it’s quite harsh
It’s the same as going into an Apple shop. They know enough to sell to the John Doe, but not enough to sell to the well clued in Nerd.
They didn’t even know the MY got a new suspension recently.
Would you not think they’d have a passing interest in what their selling 🙈
anyone heard anything on a Tesla cork proper location opening soon?
i do but i want to check how worse their knowledge has become
The reps know less than this forum. You should know that by now 🤣
I'd handbrake turn park a 1988 50 euro fiesta. But if your paying 50k plus for a big car their needed (especially with a big car with funny angles an curves).
Cameras will work well in the right conditions and you'll start to rely on them too. But try park in a tight spot with curbs etc on a dark night in the depts of winter.
Yeah Tesla still working on the tech, a rep I spoke to today had seen it in action on a M3. The software update will bring functionality back in line with previous USS functionality. Their expectation was that it will be rolled out by the time the first batch of Q1 deliveries are being made. Ultimately I guess it will be a decision that is made in California, so no one knows for sure.
As this is a 2022/2023 model, the reps should have an idea at this stage what the plan is no? Did they say anything?
Yep
Are there that many people who struggle to park without USS? Did they ever park a car without sensors? Is it one of those things that once you start to rely on it, it's very hard to do without?
Elon is a vampire not a bat hence the reason
Would want to test it in the dark and with dirty cameras.
The use case for USS is low speed driving and parking with the addition of vision. Likewise vision and radar or lidar for high speed.
Even bats and dolphins figured out the benefits of USS 😜
Maybe one of the reasons for the price drop?
No, but I just did reverse parking. Would be interested if someone else tests this.
Slowest Tesla ever made, yet plenty fast for most people 😁
Was there anything to indicate distance towards obstacles in front when you were parking?
There’s a UK registered RWD Model Y with no USS in Sandyford now. I test drove it today, and very impressed with performance. I had thought it would feel noticeably slower than the LRMY, but not the case. Getting from stand still to 100km feels fast, getting from 80-120 is very fast, and you really don’t notice the speed when you get to 120km/h. Very impressed with autopilot, particularly in traffic. Although I’ve had parking sensors for the last decade, using the camera with the guidance lines was fine. I was able to judge safe distance in a tight space using the near ends of the guidance lines. I also wanted to see if I could fit my child stroller (uppababy Vista V2 if anyone has same issue) and my large dog into the boot. There was loads of room, and when you consider the under boot and front trunk space this will be life changing for us, and not something that could be achieved in similar priced EV’s. I was considering an ID4 GTX (the €60k version) as an alternative, but overall in my opinion when it comes to fun, practicality, and overall feeling you get driving the car the Tesla is miles ahead. I’d recommend driving the RWD if you’re considering one, it’s a lot of car for the money (compared to the other similar offerings).
Budget 2023 announced that the current grant will continue until July 2023 with reduction from 1st August on.
What makes you think the grant is going after q2? Has this been confirmed anywhere?
If there is a manufacturing change coming, it'll quickly become apparent once the Shanghai plant reopens after the Chinese New Year break. Depending on that outcome (new radar, USS), Tesla could have a load of non-USS cars arriving in Feb with less than impressed reservation holders. What happens then.
Im just thinking, if we refuse this batch, next one will be after q2, chances the grant will have gone or got reduced (or could be left who knows)
Not a hope Tesla will offer you what a trader is offering them, they ain’t a charity so will be taking their bit too. My general observation over the years is that a main dealer can (but often don’t) offer you as much or more than you’ll get selling privately on anything they will sell on their forecourt, but if they are trading it on then your better off selling it yourself. I sold an expensive (circa 40k) car myself recently but only got calls from traders
Tesla do seem to offer decent value on Tesla’s they will retail themselves
Wonder whats going to happen to that batch that doesnf have uss? Retrofit down the line?
It's a mixture of Elon's stubbornness and cost saving in my view. Vision on ADAS is his baby and he is all in on it. But seems he's starting to listen to people internally (and customers) with radar coming back and also sensors making a return.
A small car is fine without USS but large premium car is a different story.
So we going back to when we had no sensors on cars? Except this one is the size of a whale, and we used to drive tinier cars before? Ffs.
how many people are cancelling theirs? Why tesla making stupid decisions like this? I mean this is regression not evolution.
anyone have links to british forums where people are refusing theirs?
The cameras are useless in the dark and rear vision from the front of the Y is non existent
Dont know what to think. We aint getting another car at that price with that much spec (although any other car in this land at this stage has uss) with a delivery date this soon.
really dont know what to say/do. This is basic car spec at this stage!!
