New Munster chat thread folks. warning deserved there. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=109477571#post109477571
Great performance in many respects but still some aspects missing from our attack which can be down to conditions and some new combinations, players coming back.
Their breakdown pilar defense was terrible for a lot of the game, led to 2 trys and there were a few more opportunities to attack there that were not taken.
Leamy must be smiling tonight, his work is paying dividends.
What was missing is the decisive run at times, the half break with a good support runner, we are still at times passing for the sake of it without fixing a defender and just going through the motions.
Healy a few times during the game goes quiet and hes not controlling things, not organising the attack, identifying opportunity or threats and just shovels the ball out.
I cant for the life of me see why leinster wanted nick mccarthy back instead of keeping patterson.
I think that was part of the speed up the game. The TMO can look at something without stopping the game for 2 or 3 minutes.
Very happy with that performance
Extremely encouraging from a team playing in those conditions with a lot of rotation and disruption early on.
Munster were relentless in both attack and defence and we made that pay on the scoreboard in the 2nd half when the Lions were out on their feet, the space opened up.
I hope Kleyn went off as a tactical decision rather than an injury. That guy is in the Munster hall of fame and we desperately need him to stay fit
Oh. I did see the ref ask the TMO to look at potential head contact, but then left the play continue anyway.
Yeah.
New world rugby guidelines came in this week. One of the instructions was that the TMO shouldn't interrupt play unless there was a clear and obvious error by the referee that matters (I'm reading that as if the TMO isn't sure if its a card or not they shut up).
This was the crucial moment in that game. If Buckley got YC'd, Munster would have been down to 13 at the next scrum as we had no more hookers left
Yeah really seemed to give the team momentum and belief.
5 losses and 2 wins prior to the SA game.
5 wins and 2 losses after. (And those losses, one score losses to Toulouse and Leinster).
Pretty massive turning point in our season.
Add a few decent players and we'll be motoring
And gave a pen for sealing off. Fair play. It’s one of the most ignored penalties.
Agreed Denis Leamy is having a great year in coaching the defense. Munster have the second best defense in league.
He could have a future in darts
Great win in bad conditions, very consistent performance and great to see to get the tbp.
Only 3 tries against in 4 games, that's some good stuff.
Great win in bad weather! Weathered the storm in the first half into the wind. We defended the Lions comfortably enough over the course of the game. Scrum was a disaster though and we should have seen a YC at some stage. Hollie was kind to us that way. Back 5 of the pack were excellent, Hodnett the pick of them. Healy went well enough too, he's no world beater but there's a touch of Ross Byrne about him. You'd have no issue trusting him in a big game but he's not a game breaker. I'm more worried about John Ryan leaving, he's our best scrummager by a long way.
Ref had a great game. Let the game flow
Fun game. Good to see some of the younger guys play well like Buckley, Salanoa, Hodnett, Kendellen, Patterson, etc. Fekitoa was impressive too, particularly in defense.
We could really do with some of the second row injuries clearing up, it is having an effect on our scrummaging.
Am I correct in thinking that was an entire game without TMO?
And Kutcher is.... the third choice 10 at Edinburgh?
He was actually back on the bench for the Ulster game, but was unused.
Agreed though, when he got hurt in the Aviva it looked like a season ending injury.
Coombes wouldn't have scored that if he was carrying another 10kg ;)
Super try. Had a tidy game up to that, but that’s a brilliant finish. Feel like we’ve deserved that.
Ah Jack O'sulllivan is back, I thought he was out for the season.
Like a pinball, bounces off tackles. Had a super game
A wee bonnie lass?
Hodnett has some strength. He doesnt look the biggest but seems to be able to break tackles at will.
Still showing some super defensive linespeed this late in the game.
I think I've heard some of the Saffer's calling her "Ma'am", whereas I've heard JOD calling her Hollie on a few occasions so far.
Gavin Coombes is pretty useful as a defensive lineout jumper, not often seen in that role but has disrupted the Lions lineout nicely tonight.
Stupid question, but rather than sir, what do the players address Hollie as?
