I can remember back at the start of the war, Russia shelling evacuation corridors that were agreed to. Plenty of horrific stories and footage as said war crimes.
Let's hope HIMARS is checking his list and getting ready to deliver presents to the Frontline!
Probably jealous of all the young Russian lads with their lives ahead so has no issue lobbing them into the meat grinder.
During the Azov steel plant siege, the Russians often agreed to safe passage for the elderly and sick citizens only later to break their word on the day. Russians are not to be trusted under any circumstances.
A church can decide to celebrate Jesus' landing on Mars if they so please - it doesnt mean they actually will do it.
Banning christmas on the 7th because they dont like Russia is like Ireland deciding to ban christmas on the 25th because of the British empire and 800 years etc. The british do not own the 25th of december the same was Russia has no claim to the 7th. Posters claiming Ukraine will abandon it or that it is an "orc day" are too far gone down the rabbit hole it seems.
I know, but there good for a laugh
To the best of my knowledge, nothing is set in stone and a church can decide when to hold its feast days and festivals. They are mostly based on long standing tradition or common practise and do not come from the Bible. The Russians themselves actually banned Christmas for much of the Soviet era.
Unfortunately we have a group of posters who will always say the opposite
Allowing services to be held on the 25th or 7th is very different to the OPs claiming that Ukrainians would refuse to celebrate the 7th, and that the 7th would be "just another orc day". And its the OCU not UOC who made that decision
Ukraine haven't agreed to it,
So they can't break it.
this schism happened almost 5 years ago when the Ukrainian orthodoxy split
However it is a million miles away from the what the OP said, which was Ukrainians soon would refuse to celebrate christmas on the 7th. They would be the first orthodox nation in the world not to celebrate christmas on or around the 7th.
The Russian Orthodox Church is openly identifying with Putin and his regime and is supporting the invasion. This is hugely problematic for everyone in Ukraine.....hard to see a major schism not happening.
I wonder how many people will suddenly reappear to claim the Ukrainans are breaking the cease fire,
I see the weather in Ukraine is still quite mild ,a few -1 -5 days but back up to 3+ degree's for most part
If the Russians are proposing a ceasefire I'd be assuming that they plan to carry out troop movements, redeployments, resupply operations, recon missions, and even attacks vs Ukrainian forces and/or civilians while the ceasefire is in effect.
A whole 36 hours at the wish of the peace loving head of the orthodox church Kirill.
What a joke.
Uoc gave permission for Christmas to be celebrated on either the 25 of December or the 6 of January
This brings it in line with the Greek Romanian and Bulgarian orthodox churches.
The Ukrainian Greek catholic Church also changed it celebrations in solidity.
Plenty of Ukrainians celebrated Christmas on the 25th just gone.
You reap what you sow.
I can't see Ukraine feeling the Christmas spirit and opting for a ceasefire when their country has been invaded. Russia would be welcome to celebrate in Russia.
This is surely a PR stunt so they can call Ukraine a bunch of savages for killing on Christmas. They'll probably use that as the cornerstone to justify a new mobilisation.
Why would the 7th of january become "an orc day"? What about Greek orthodoxy? Romanian orthodoxy? Serbian orthodoxy? Polish? Etc
The only place that believes Orthodox christmas belongs to the Russians is this thread. It simply does not correspond to reality.
It is Russian propagandist policy to accuse the other side of the very crimes they are committing - 'irresponsible actions' 'prolonging the conflict' etc.
Exactly, they just need to recognise the Gregorian calendar... that simple. Then, the 7th of January just becomes an Orc day.
I for one applaud Putin's vigorous pursuit of a ceasefire on the front line, if only that front line was the Ukraniane-Russian border. Then he can have his ceasefire, the misserable cnut.
THey could just as easily have killed them all, and put out that press release to coerce more convicts to sign up.
For the Ukrainian orthodox church to change their date to celebrate Christmas purely to spite Russian orthodoxy would be crazy
It's followers would not be enthused by such a big change with seemingly no real justification. (current orthodox christmas date is based on original julian calendar date IIRC). And almost all orthodox churches celebrate it on the 7th, not just the Russian orthodoxy
I read earlier that the first wave of Russian convicts-turned Wagner mercs have completed their first contract and have had their criminal records wiped clean. This is how broken a state Russia is now, that some of the country's most violent offenders (presumably, Wagner were recruiting men who were no stranger to violence and death), can, if they survive Ukraine, return to society with all sins absolved. It's an unnerving thought, but this is what ordinary Russian people get for their continued support of thugs and gangsters...
Though it looks like a big schism is coming with the Russian Orthodox Church. It may well be that they will refuse to celebrate Christmas at the same time as Russia in future.
Not sure too much can be read into this : it appears to be for the Russian Orthodox Christmas period.
The Germans providing more military aid to Ukraine.
Most of Ukraine is orthodox, not catholic. So it wasn't yet Christmas for them.
Orthodox christmas is the 7th of Jan
