This guys in the news quite a lot recently.
This seems a bit too far. Is primary a bit too young for this ideology? Certainly “endocrine supports” for young kids seems a bit scary as the changes can be irreversible.

It's fascinating how this issue seems to engender instant, volcanic outrage in some people. It's not like this is even a concrete policy proposal yet, let alone an imminent change to the primary curriculum. The minister offers an opinion in an interview. There's not much to go on on what even he thinks is level of information that should be imparted and yet people are up in arms.
It's almost like people want there to be a conspiracy to brainwash their kids in order to have something to be cross about.
It really is all that simple.
the person involved in the current court case is a religious fundamentalist, as are his parents and all of his siblings, i doubt an afternoon crash course in primary school would have changed much for him.
Those are settled arguments, very little surrounding “ gender identity “ is settled, their are no experts surrounding the whole “ trans “ issue, just ideologues
Oh here we go again.
Heard it all before with "what if someone wants to marry their horse" i.e. ridiculous crazy drivel that has nothing to do with anything being discussed.
It's fascinating to see people think that anyone is going to fall for the "this isn't a big deal" line having seen that tactic to try normalise the degeneracy that is being taught in schools other parts of the world. Ordinary people are wising up to what's being pushed on their kids by creepy fuckers.
Seems like a bit of over reach.
By all means provide spaces for people to go and engage and learn about these topics but have the people go to those events and opt in if they choose, but why its deemed the purview of schools is a bit strange to me.
Course they arent
Ironically, those most put out by this are those who would have benefited most from it as kids.
So we need to upend everything so less than 0.01% of the population doesn’t feel marginalised?
You seem to believe in Schrödinger's Transsexual: They simultaneously barely exist at all, yet they are the single most dangerous thing to face society.
"upend everything"
what on earth are you talking about?
Seeing as the topic is being discussed at the highest level of our Government it is incumbent on adults to educate themselves on the issue.
I recommend you follow Libs of Tik Tok, a good place to witness the kinds of ideology being taught in US schools, possible here soon.
Find a Pediatrician (online or in person) who can explain the process, the types of drugs involved, the implications on the person over the long term.
Educate yourself on the cost of gender transition and the life long related costs for the individual.
Ask yourself, can our Health system handle the coming surge in demand for gender related surgeries, we will be witnessing the removal of genitals in unprecedented numbers in the coming years? Can the taxpayer afford to fund it?
Ask yourself, seeing as we are already struggling with a mental health crisis in our young, will this relieve or add to it?
When you make up your own mind, whatever that is, do not allow yourself to be bullied or harassed by people feigning compassion who will use emotive and insulting language in an attempt to undermine your view.
I hope you are not putting myself and others who wish this to be approached by kids parents in this category?
The people themselves aren’t, the TRA folks are a different story, those are Marxist revolutionaries using another form of identity politics as a weapon
obviously a large portion of gormless trendies eager to get on board too
Why are you continuing to equate the actions of a single person with a requirement to amend the primary curriculum?
And by the way, my daughter was perfectly accepting of that person in her class without any engagement from her parents or teachers at the time as would all kids at that age.
Maybe better advice would be for people not to believe this slippery-slope, conspiracy-theory catastrophising, when all that's being discussed is merely telling children that trans people exist.
Is there anyone explicitly telling kids that they don't exist?
Are kids asking what trans people are?
Is it really a problem that will effect the majority of kids?
Does that trans child now use the boys toilets? In theory teaching this stuff in schools sounds positive but it will quickly descend into confusion and conflict. If a boy decides one day he is now a girl and will be using the girls toilets from now on, how will that be handled. I think teaching this topic could turn out to be incredibly complicated because the schools obviously will have to back up the teachings with actions.
Yes, there are plenty of people that explicitly deny transgenderism. Some even on this thread.
Yes, kids do ask about trans people, as they do about almost every subject they encounter even a snippet of.
"Affecting the majority" is not a criteria for teaching many, many other topics taught in school.
It is not crazier than a man believing they are a woman or vice versa
Exactly this. It doesn't have to be a big song and dance.
Transgenderism exists, whether some of the concerned citizens here like it or not.
I can guarantee anyone in this thread who says they will make a massive scene about this will live to regret it once their own children become old enough to truly understand just how complex it is, and how their parents were trying to allienate a community in the name of their children.
Ignorance won't address any issues. Acknowledge it, explain some of the issues, and move on.
Parental wishes is what determines ultimately what children are educated about in school.
Interestingly, I was watching a fringe event at Dublin pride a few years ago and one of the speakers, was talking about how this could be approached in schools. It was all to be dressed up as a parental choice - your children could opt out if the parents wished. There was to be a catch, if they opted out, your children would have to be supervised by the parent during the lesson. The idea was that it would be possible to opt out but it would be so inconvenient that almost noone would opt out.
Just because it exists in peoples head doesn't mean that it is real.
Ireland has had a gay Children's minister for nearly a decade now, I have to wonder if these policies are because of some bias toward the LGBTQ community.
School should be about Education, not about pronouns, sexuality, etc. There is more than enough opportunity for children to develop and discover their sexuality as they mature in life.
The more this ridiculousness is shoved down the throats of the majority, the harsher the eventual backlash will be, and when I say backlash I mean it will move people toward political parties and representatives who will reject these types of policies at the ballot box.
Very true. Which is why no one said it only existed in peoples' heads.
Oh it's very real.
It used to be said about homosexuals all the time too. We've come full circle again in alienating a different group of people, many of whom suffer really badly with their mental health trying to understand their own gender identity issues.
But sure, Jarhead knows more when they never have to deal with any of it. Just dismiss it willy nilly.
Loads of things exist that we don't tell children about in the primary curriculum. Cars exist, bank accounts exist, things that exist that the majority of kids will eventually have to actually know about and use.
How do we decide what is now acceptable? If someone loved table lamps for instance and wanted to marry one we would say, the person is crazy, yet to them, their love for such is very real, can we say they are normal and we as a society should accept their love for table lamps, allow full rights and equality measures or do we label them as someone with a mental illness?

Children certainly encounter discussion about cars and money in primary school.
