Moving the car was probably not Shirley's decision, remember by the time she went to the dump detectives Pat Joy, Twomey and others were at the scene and any decision like moving the car likely came from higher up.
The items were already removed from her property and were in her car and she had already driven through the scene, but not the cordon.
So whoever from AGS there at the time allowed a car to leave the scene to go to a public dump despite not yet knowing the exact cause of death or having any kind of forensics done on the scene.
And some wonder why they haven't yet caught the murderer?
I've no idea whether Alfie &/or Shiela had any involvement in the murder but allowing the car to leave the area clearly was a colossal cock-up in terms of sealing the crime scene, especially since we now know that items are missing from Sophie's house.
As for Alfie's bandaged hand, this has been done to death here and elsewhere, it was an old wound, one of the guards at the scene asked the Doctor to look at it and they agreed it did not occur recently. It was said not to be a dog bite.
I agree Alfie is a more likely suspect than Bailey, but it's unlikely he'd have a crepe bandage on display if he'd injured his hand in the attack.
No problem with that... Refreshing to see a poster admit an error.
Maybe Alfie was helping the Gardai with their inquiries.
Maybe they checked Shirley's car and what she was bringing to the dump and determined that there was nothing suspicious.
Maybe going about her day to day business was a coping mechanism.
Maybe she was in shock.
You see we don't know any of this.
The reason we know so much about Bailey is because of the DPP report, the liable cases and his own unsolicited admissions that he killed Sophie
But Alfie and Shirley were never arrested so we have no idea about the investigation into them.
After such a traumatic morning.... Would you really be that bothered about going to the dump??
Strikes me as bizarre..... Young Mother smashed to a pulp on the lane way, Guards have the scene cordoned off, quite obviously a murder scene......
But I still need to remove items from my property, drive through a cordoned off murder scene, and take them to the dump..... Alone!

Shirley and her car should not have been allowed go anywhere. The car should have remained at the scene. It really is farcical that she was allowed to travel to the dump after discovering a body. How was she so composed to go on with her plans to go to the dump - surely this could have waited. Why didn't Alfie travel with her - imagine your wife finding a body and letting her head off on her own to the dump of all things - Alfie doesn't sound much of a gentleman. Strange behaviours!
I'm not saying that there wasn't but it's the only landfill in the general area. Whether the rubbish was snmall enough to have been placed into a regular public bin is another thing* but I've no idea what it was that she claimed that she was bringing to the dump.
* there would also have been bins in Goleen (~7km) or possibly even at Ballyrisode beach (~3km)
Taking a small amount of rubbish 11 miles to a landfill site? Something not right with that.
There isn't a dump nearer.
(Irrelevant to the murder but what makes this landfill even worse is that it is located within a bog - Cork Co Co idiots)
My fact about the post boxes was indeed incorrect.
I was basing it on a post from another poster.
Well yeah, they (the Gardai) absolutely may have checked the car, but because we don't know this for certain it allows people to come up with theories that they didn't because they were covering up for Alfie.

That is 11 miles away, 3 miles beyond Schull. There must have been somewhere nearer.
It would have made more sense to check her car before allowing her to drive off, which they most likely did.
I went to our local dump this week and it was closed.
I didn't expect it to be closed, but it was.
Maybe Shirley went to the dump at 2pm ish expecting it to be open, just like I did.
It closed at 1 p.m.
Odd, she said she met Bailey on the borreen at 2:20 while on her way to the tip.
And if in the course of their investigations in the days after the murder if the Gardai though Alfie or Shirley were real suspects they would have gone to that dump and looked for what they were looking for.
It's not as if it was going to disappear, landfills are notorious for stuff not disappearing.
So will you apologize for being wrong? It was not a "fact" was it? There was one mailbox.
Also the gardai arrived at 10.38 a. m. Shirley was allowed to drive to the Derryconnell Waste Disposal site after their arrival. It closed at 1 p.m. so in a two hour window someone let her walk back down past the body (despite saying she couldn't look at the body that day) and drive off with potential evidence.

The only mystery in all this is why the desperation to cover up for Alfie.
But why do you think people have covered up for Alfie?
Do you not think that Alfie was looked at by the Gardai and ruled out for a heap of different reasons in the course of basic investigations that none of us are privy to or should be privy to.
Some people seem to think that just because the case against the prime suspect is weak there must be more evidence against Alfie that the Gardai are covering up.
Maybe the reality is that the case against Alfie is much weaker than that against the prime suspect, thus no arrest, no DPP file etc.
Out of curiosity, had Bailey been on the garda radar for anything prior to Sophie's murder?

As for it being propped up.
You'll find things like that up and down the country, bailing twine holding things up, things falling down and not being put back correctly.
It's not as of you see prestine, symmetrical installations of gates, fences , post boxes all over the place and this is some sort of outlier.
You see those types of tractor ruts on every boreen up and down the country.
It's not that easy to decipher how old or new they are, you can't tell from that photo if they are a day or a week old.

Poor old Alfie in the dock again today
Father Tod said "FACT" there were three mailboxes. That was not true. If anything the one mailbox looks like it has been knocked over and then crudely propped up with rocks. Like an angry neighbour had knocked it over and the mailbox owner had done a hasty repair out of derision. Classic boreen vendetta.
Only one box for all 3 properties .
Of more interest in that photo are the tyre marks bottom left of the photo. Car tyre marks are probably the Garda car as they drove up to the scene.
But there also appears to be tractor tyre marks, seemingly as fresh as the car marks. Now who would be arriving at that gate on a tractor?

Alfie hand was bandaged from a dog bite. Despite not having a dog. The dog just stayed long enough to bite Alfie but, wouldn't you know, was gone the night of the murder.
