With route maps and new teams kits starting to come out I thought it a good time to get this going
Same here, I started near the back but quickly made it to 51st on the 1st lap by just running it at pinch points, was top 30 by lap 2 but then my chain got so gunked up that I couldn't unclog it. Ended up running over half a lap (well I ran 1/4 of a lap and then just walked the rest as my legs were burned out). Spent 10 minutes at a water trough cleaning it out enough to ride again.
Irish riders named for the World Cup CX in Dublin; genuine question--- why is the current national champion now called Chris Dawson instead of Chris McGlinchey? Is this a sensitive matter or is there a simple answer? Just wondering
Has to be a mistake I'd imagine. Just looking at the results, Dawson couldn't hold a title he didn't compete for.
Maybe they got married?
His wife’s surname is Dawson. Presume that’s exactly it
from Instagram
They did! Congrats all round
Very sad news from Italy. Davide Rebellin was killed in a hit and run RTC this morning
Just as he settled into retirement....
30+ years in a pro peloton, all those years of training, riding hundreds of thousands of kms on the road, then killed immediately after retiring, that is really, really ****. His last race was only 5 weeks ago.
God what's really awful, after so many years so intensively on the bike. Horrendous.
Absolutely terrible news, a real gut punch. RIP Davide
Catching up with the CX here. The women's game is something else this year with another young gun stepping up and taking a seriously impressive win. She came from what 5th or 6th and way back ?
MvdP used up all his luck last weekend, and wiped out on lap one there today. Hopefully wasn't hurt but that looked like a heavy fall . He said he'd start tomorrow and finished the race today.
Heads up, another early start to the racing today at 11:20
Was watching the highlights earlier, was a bad hit alright. He went from 1st, took that bad fall and was pretty stunned, freewheeled round a bit, dropped to 47th, then still finished up in 13th only 3 mins, some man!
MVDP, Pidcock and WVA all taking the start line today
Pierre Rolland retires as a result of B&B's demise. Always had a soft spot for the guy. Remember that win in 2017 at the Route de Sud where he had the baby scan in his jersey that he took out as he crossed the line and before that, that same year taking Cannondale's only win in over 2 years at the Giro.
I loved Rolland win up Alpe DHuez . Can’t remember what year it was
2011 what he broke on the scene as dom for Voeckler.
Won white that year too which put way too much hype on him and probably didn't help in the long run.
Giro is stacking up to be a cracker next year, Remco, Geraint Thomas, Caruso and Mads Pedersen all choosing it over the Tour so far
Interview with Sam Bennett on Cyclingnews.com today
In think the biggest thing is he outlines his early season race schedule
"It's normally pretty similar to what I normally do like. I start in Argentina, then UAE, Paris-Nice, and then the Classics that I can get up in like Milan-San Remo, De Panne, Gent-Wevelgem.
"I think some of the main targets then will be Tour de France again. I'd like to do two Grand Tours back-to-back to rebuild the engine again. But maybe ask me that on the second rest day in the Tour – I might have a different answer."
There hasn't been much from Eddie Dunbar other than the earlier claims made by Matt White who indicated the Giro and Vuelta were likely targets but he is unlikely to go to the Australian races in January so may have a later start to the season.
Fem being stretchered off course. She looked to have been in a lot of pain after the crash. 😥
EDIT: Update from the Team
Great news that no fractures for either. Hopefully they're back in the saddle quickly.
The course looked like a real test of nerves as much as skills. Having watched both, this year's seemed to be a lot sketchier than last year's edition.
Just checking the schedule for Christmas and happened to notice there is cross today just after 2pm. The big 3 in the mens down to start. Brand and some others there for the women but no Puck or Fem.
I've heard talk about this film on here before but never actually seen it.
RTÉ 2 are showing it tonight at 11.
'The Racer.'
Big 3 up again today, was watching the highlights of the boxing day Gavere race, noticed that Tim Merlier was racing in it and finished 22nd!
And again tonight the big 3 go at it. Night time racing currently on lap 2.
I missed this race over the last few years. The crowd are fantastic.
What a race. Looked like one of the three had gotten away a few times, looked like one of them was cooked a few times, then back together again and again right up until the penultimate lap
Really enjoyed both races tonight with the men’s race edge of the seat stuff.
I think the stat I read the other day was that there was 100 races when WVA and MVDP raced against each other and 89 of those races were won by one of them. Incredible
UCI looking to give Toon Aerts a 2 year holiday from cycling. He's still claiming contamination. I know nothing about supplements or pharmacy but am I wrong to find it incredibly unlikely they would be contaminated with letrozole?
Time for the annual "do I need to set up a new thread or get the mods to change the title" poll.
If it's easy do its probably better to just let this one run.
