Where did you get it from?
Picking up the Model Y in Feb hopefully 🤞 but am contemplating putting it through my Ltd company.
Anyone done this before ? When purchasing it do I need to tell Tesla its a commercial and not a private purchase ?
Can't see why this would matter to them, but perhaps someone else has a different experience
If it's a standard range it'll be 5k cheaper as a private sale.
Also the owner of the car on the logbook will be the company and not you.
So yes tell them
Grant Application, price and registration name etc so yes, definitely tell Tesla.
Im assuming thats down to the SEAI grant ?
Yea. SEAI grants does not apply to business customers AFAIK.
Some people buy their EV privately, so they get the €5000 subsidy. Then they sell the car to their company. No idea if this is kosher, check with your accountant.
If contemplating putting a new car through your business, surely leasing might be more attractive from an accounting perspective to your business ? As Unkel suggested it’s a direct question for your accountant but losing a €5K grant wouldn’t be a great start.
We looked at getting it on the business with my wife self employed.
made no sense. The grant is more than you could claim back over 3-5 years and wasnt worth it. Buying private and still will save more. With BIK going down, at that purchase price itll cost too much
I’m not an accountant but it seems like you’re best of to buy privately to get the €5K grant and then recoup your mileage expenses from your business tax free at civil service mileage rates. EV’s now qualify on the middle band of the mileage rates since September and you’ll have no BIK to pay. Obviously this only works if you’re doing sufficient annual mileage but you’re hardly buying a new Model Y to use it as a driveway trophy.

@joe1303l Where did you see this?
I see Tesla have now put up details of the Finance Ireland PCP offer on the MY. Oddly, they don't mention GFMV though, unless I missed it.
Can see this being quite a volatile figure if decent feature updates come year on year.

As I understand Revenue allows all companies to use these rates to refund employees using their private car for valid business miles and this income is non taxable to the employee.
Slowdown in Shanghai production announced today, wouldn’t be a huge surprise if deliveries of the Y are put back?
Saw a video with what looked like miles of cars ready for shipment recently so your car could already be built.
Id say its more to do with they don’t have buyers waiting for the 250,000 cars they are now producing every quarter. The waiting time for a model Y in china is under 14 days , and demand has slowed in the USA (tax incentive gives due to kick in there in 2023)
Thought it was down to covid restrictions?
Maybe they're modifying the factory for the new Model 3
Maybe the Model 3 will get a price cut to get it back in line with the Model Y ?
If supply exceeds demand they'll either have to cut the margins to be more like the legacy manufacturers or maybe even start advertising 😱
there is an extended shutdown from 20th to end jan (around Chinese new year ), so don’t think thats covid related . Maybe some of the slowdown for tesla sales related is the BYD skyrocketing sales in china. Maybe the spreading Elon effect or covid or downward sales , or any combination of the above .
Pound for pound, are they not already on par or better than the legacy manufacturers?
When you compare spec to spec or are you talking about reducing to MG pricing?
They are but with bigger margins, so they could undercut them if they wanted. Or start advertising as there are still plenty of people that have never heard of Tesla, or even more that assume they all cost 100-150k.
Actually you’re 100% on that. Anytime someone asked me is that a €100k car I have to explain how they’re not!
I have had similar, though usually people (Often with car knowledge) assume Tesla start at about €70k. Fiirst thing I have been asked is have I won the Lotto.😊
Even people looking at EVs are shocked that the Model 3 or Y is cheaper than a Kia, Skoda or VW when it's pointed out to them. They just seemed to assume it was out of their price bracket so never even looked.
Looks the Shanghai shutdown is just the normal Chinese New Year break, 1 extra day been given as a lot of the workers have missed the last few years at home with Covid restrictions etc...
I agree i thought id never buy one then by chance was browsing around, even when i first started looking it was over 70k model Y, then got lucky checking again after being disappointed with enyaq and id4 prices and kit offerings. Ended up checking here and saw the price drop so jumped on it asap. My wife thought we’d need to be near retirement to get her dream car and here we are with me convincing her its cheaper to get a tesla than a skoda or vw
This is it. For me it's far cheaper to sell my 6 year old Tesla Model S and buy a brand new Tesla Model Y. I'm getting cold feet though. Not sure if I will go ahead.
What is making you think twice?
