Oisin is on my Mount Rushmore of SC guests - always has great one-liners and is very entertaining.
His quote to the lads before their first live show 10 years ago that Eoin mentioned was also very funny.
It's near the start of Episode 2519: What It Means To Argentina, Invading Mbappe's Personal Space, Good Clean Golden Glove Fun - 20/12/2022
I really don't care about this alleged 'sportswashing' that Miguel can never shut up about. I put sportswashing in quotes as it's an overwrought, made up phrase from journalists. I think this world cup had the opposite affect, brought loads of attention on Qatar and their human rights. If the World Cup wasn't there, the vast majority wouldn't even know about and certainly wouldn't care.
It was absolutely sportswashing and was a resounding success.
Playing matches in Ireland doesn't directly create/exacerbate those problems though... that's the point.
And if the sportwashing backfired in any way, it's directly because of the media attention.
If there's one thing I took from the reporting on Qatar is that there's 3000 migrant irish over there on huge salaries paying zero income tax!! Tough life indeed 😏
it would seem all the stories you were forced to consume about Qatar weren’t actually enough if this is your take-away..
That was actually an interesting thing to learn alright though, but I’m not sure how a factoid unrelated to everything everyone is talking about justifies the auld ‘smug-sign-off-plus-emoji’ treatment…
Enjoyed today's episode, although I fecking hate that 'finger licking' audiobed and they kept playing it.
The right audiobed won the poll!
Yeah I find the Michael Irvin bed obnoxious, I read a book about the Dallas Cowboys team he was a part of, he's not a nice man.
Good book though.
give it Ken. More interesting on GAA than any other voice I’ve heard on the show.
Ah look, if Ken's getting added to anything, surely it's the rugby chat?
I would pay an extra euro (plus VAT) for that.
Frank Lampard getting beaten by relegation rivals with a last minute winner should re-pique Ken’s interest in the Premier League.
I didn’t think the discussion on nationalism was particularly illuminating. Una Mullally was vague and contradicted herself (apparently singing Up the Ra is both very offensive and somehow an illustration of the development of a new positive form of nationalism) and I don’t really know what Brian Kerr brought to it, other than not liking rebel songs
Listened to Ken & Wilson and the Kerr & Mullaly one today.
Ken & Wilson great obvs i could listen to them all day.
Kerr was a good listen but he does meander a bit like Roddy C.
Mullaly makes a very good point imo, disagree with the poster above.
Kerr is my all time favourite Irish football personality, could listen to him all day. And I agree 100% with him on rebel songs, it's crap music.
Kerr knows Irish soccer better than anyone but it can be very hard to take him seriously on some matters knowing what a crap job he did as Irish manager.
Jesus, it's bad enough that I have to scroll past her shite on the Irish Times never mind SC.
Una Mullally? Good lord, why would they have her on? Does any poster on this thread honestly want to listen to her opinion on anything, never mind sport?
Right I'll say it. I can't be the only one.
Tim Vickery is ALWAYS ALWAYS an instant turn off...but my **** god, jesus ****..he's BRUTAL. Absolute snooze fest every single time. Please for the love of god, this is the guy who will eventually get me to tie that noose and do it.
I fuckin hate this crap.
Filler..I'd rather have no pod than listen to thay garbage.
We all pay for kens rants. This is the sort of stuff I'd pay to not receive in my feed.
SC can be the best but also dogshìt.
Miguel Delaney calling Ronaldo’s move to Al Nassr “tragic”. Steady on old chap.
Alright alright, we've all had a drink.
Completely don't get why anyone wouldn't enjoy Tim Vickery. Loads of knowledge, engaging speaker, and can bring in all sorts of wider social, cultural and/or political when talking about football - but without sounding pompous or overblown. He's about as good a guest as you'll get.
Tim Vickery, Jonathan Wilson and Ken are my three favourite speakers on football. I'd listen to them read out team sheets all day
I don't watch soccer. I don't like soccer. I will listen to these lads natter about soccer any day.
I got tired of him when I used to listen to the World Football phone-in as he became fairly repetitive with the same talking points again and again. He's still very good in general but you don't need him on every week.
Ah flippin hell.
It's Jigsaw season and that Jigsaw.news page from tge Isolating podcast seems to be gone?
All I can remember is the bollocks and the fence. And a Jedward
Funny, I'm actually re-listening to the Isolating podcast at the moment. I noticed that too. It's odd to listen back, what a strange time...
