Like the retreat of Ukrainan forces a week or two later and they rolled into Kherson despite your predictions of WW1 trench warfare that would cost the Ukrainians dearly
If you've managed to irk Tucker Carlson, Donald Trump JR and some tw@ts from Breitbart in one day, you're on the right track in my book!!
This is a complex issue especially if there is a Russian embassy in situ. What does a Russian citizen as a refugee or under whatever status they are living under in Ireland and want to live in peace IS APPROACHED by a Russian staff member / undercover RU agent to DO SOMETHING for them and the Russian agent says in the next breath “ we know where your parents/aunts / uncles / brothers /sisters / grand mothers, etc live in Russia. What does the Russian who wants to live in peace in Ireland and clearly rejects everything Russian DO?
and if they refuse to ‘help’ their own lives might be at risk. The embassy/agent could use them as an example of what can happen.
so because of the above , I could not thrust EVEN ONE RUSSIAN. It’s an awful thing to have to say but IMHO it’s reality
Only one??? 5 or 6 even would be more like it, I'd say 😂
As soon as you mention the likes of internment here for Russian citizens, you see several posters getting agitated.
You didn't but that's what states do in times of crisis when there are potential enemies in their midst. We may not be there yet, but we may also assume that there are dangers lurking.
According to them (the Russians) they are making a military budget for the next 3 years. Which will have to be markedly increased if their forces are to show any improvement in the field. Gone will be the days of Families having to support their sons with protection gear, winter clothing etc. But the biggest impediment to this will be the innate Russian disease of corruption. Where that increased budget actually benefits the soldier on the front lines is something else. Then you have the actual budget itself where the cash will come from..when you consider Russia's dwindling income from its traditional oil / gas sales. Thats not to say that they will be starved of cash ( unfortunately) but it will mean a choice between supporting the Russian people or the military, and with Russia increasingly falling on hard economic times, that will call for some hard choices to be made. Three years is a very long time in a situation like this. Winter and Spring 2023 will tell the tale, I'd say.
They have stopped for a cup of tea...
I see the ruble has been sliding, 10% in the last week. Considering it's a totalitarian country with unbridled capital controls, and vast resource income, it's an interesting turn.
And another one bites the dust....
IAEA delegation had consultations in Moscow on security of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
Can Russia be trusted with the plant?
... in a Duster.
Theres a heat map of Russias population, calling it the largest country in the world is meaningless, most of Russia is emptry and sizeable amount of it is distinct nations that can go their own way, once the Muscovite Empire is finally put to bed.
The only thing to worry about it is what they have in their silos
Kind of meant "political" to cover a multitude, as you say the money is there and is even spent on "health" but outcome is poor vs other Western countries.
The US is lucky geographically as regards not having to worry about some things as much but agree its security depends on situation abroad. Unfortunately (looking from outside) seems like the isolationist strain + a (false) belief the US can be an island and would be better to let Ukraine, Europe (and the rest) go to hell in a handbasket is stronger there than it used to be.
Think we've kind of had this discussion before, but post collapse of the Soviet Union I still think on balance it did not matter to the US that Western Europe took the peace dividend and it even had benefits. The main threat to Europe was gone, the US was left with no rivals at all and its military was strong enough, so European countries being militarily weaker + ceasing to worry about their own security was harmless in practice & gave it a great ability to lead and control in NATO.
Think those days are gone for good now and the US definitely wants European countries to be able to look after themselves security/defence wise eventually even if there is some loss of influence as a result.
Poland have already prepared with border walls and were being pilloried for it in Europe. This is one of the reasons that the West needs to get real on asylum, we cannot be a lifeboat for a world with a balooning population who don't share our culture or values. People don't mind applying this logic to Russians, they're less keen on applying it to other groups.
Merry Christmas, Vlad, you loser.
Do you think internment works? Do you know anything about the history of internment when it was used in NI?
FYI, No one is getting "agitated" 🙄
But ,but , bakhmut, bakhmut is going to fall ,
Lol
"another idea would be to have these people publicly have to send a letter to any paper of record with their name denouncing Putin and this war when it comes time for visa renewal, if they don’t like to do the descent thing publicly don’t renew visas and put them on first train back to motherland"
Jaysus you're frothing at the mouth as every hour passes 🤣
Did you call for every Irish person to do this when the IRA were bombing the UK? Next you'll want them all to wear a special badge on their clothes so they are easily identifiable 🙄
Pointing out the stupidity of ideas is now considered "touching a nerve" 🙄
How many people have you seen walking down the street in Ireland with a Z badge?
As for nuclear annihilation? I live/work in a city that would be one of the first to be hit if a nuclear strike was ordered so yes I'm pretty much aware of the sabre rattling and "threats" coming from the Putin mouth pieces.
As for entering Russia, have you tried lately?
If the Indians had a proper sense of humor they'd spend the money saved on cheap oil supplying ammo and aid to Ukraine.
Again, me pointing out why an idea is stupid and laughing at the mouth frothing hyperbole does not equate to me supporting Russia.
You're one of those who believes every single citizen should loudly voice thier condemnation for thier governments/leaders actions.
Would you be willing to march on the Kremlin? Would you be carrying a torch or a pitchfork? What would you do when the shooting started?
Gotta love keyboard warriors 🤣
Great idea 🙄🤣
Everytime there is a conflict in the world there is someone on boards saying "they should do this and they should do that" the same people who would run a mile in the opposite direction the moment the first Bullets started whizzing past them.
Who did you trigger this time
Wouldn't agree with public denouncements of Putin etc. let alone internment but unfortunately the people fleeing from Russia are a security risk to the EU.
They do need to be heavily scruitinised before being admitted and don't blame countries (e.g. Baltic states) for just rejecting most and restricting visas heavily since the war. Russians already here need a weather eye kept on them now also. Russia is a hostile state, would say relations are as bad as can be without being at war.
It is past time for it honestly. Even before this war started, we know about their track record of election interference, funding of political extremists, sowing of disinformation, sabotage, hacking, assassinations + deliberately careless use of poisons, and of course downing of an aircraft full of EU citizens over Ukraine by their proxies etc.
They may or may not have been behind a very large act of industrial sabotage in the Autumn (destroying 2 large gas pipelines). You can guarantee this is not the end of it and who knows what else they may do especially as Putin gets more desperate, or his grip on power weakens.
Do you, as a matter of interest, have any experience in conflict areas, or in the aftermath of such?
And a nice side story to this would be as soon as the container is in its convoy, a lone MQ-9 Reaper drone is flying high above watching said convoy, and unleashes it lethal payload directly onto the steel container, destroying its cargo and everything else around it, before it turns around and automatically returns to base.......
It is not a good idea to try and do a toasted cheese sandwich next to a few gallons of diesel.
... how many times has this old rust bucket caught fire now... must be the 3rd time this year. Apparently, the Ruskies plan to put it back into service in 2024.
I do.
You mean put the tugboats that move it around back into service ...
