Hi Jimmy, I tried to get them to sign up to the Irish Bike to Work scheme and they broke my heart with being completely inflexible about splitting payments. Tried loads of other shops in NL and Belgium. Eventually found DLB in Dun Laoghaire were stocking them. They’re absolutely great to deal with. Joe there is a great lad and has loads of experience with the bike to work scheme. The bike itself is some piece of kit. I got the Super 73 ZX in Moonrock. It’s great fun to cycle, feels really stable as well, especially coming from a Fido. Only criticism is the low end torque is a bit slow off the line but I think there’s a firmware update being released now that speeds it up.
I knew zero bout e bikes and looking for a recommendrion for one .I am a farmer looking for a e bike for a short journey on off road trail and some dry field biking .It would need the fat tyres but speed not needed nor a long battery charge .I basically need it to check cattle on the farm ,the furthest field being 2 km from base .I want a reliable good brand preferable one that you do not have to pedal to drive motor ,willing to buy s/h from a bike dealership ,budget only E1500 .
get your self a cheap small quad for the fields a few hundred euro it would be alot cheaper that a e-bike.

Any thoughts on this bike ? Just looking for something for the daily commute, around 10k each way. Have a preference for an external battery for charging and maintenance but open to integrated. Budget probably up to €3000

Looks fine, but out of stock. Check out my previous post in this thread (#1796) - the bike I linked is cheaper and also uses a Bosh motor, but a step up on the range than on the bike you linked, which gives it 10Nm more torque. It's also out of stock though. Doesn't come with mudguards or pannier rack either, but I have fitted both to mine. I do a 14km (28km round trip) commute a few days a week.
Depending on how soon you want a bike, stock will be the main issue.

Where would be the best place to buy a rear motor conversion kit and battery these days do people know? Tempted to just go with the most powerful 26" Andy Kirby kit but a lot of people say they're way overpriced for something shipping from China and you could get the same for 50-66% of the price.

I wouldnt have the skills or the knowhow to install a middrive properly I fear.
I have a "beast" since my mania is maximum range. Currently circa 70 K on the flat. Got mine from myebike,ie. but you can go to the bike shops in e bike in Phibsborough or Dorset and do a deal direct.
It's not rocket science, I went to Halfords and got them to remove the shaft that holds on the peddles for me and after that It was just fitting and bolting it on. I live in the north east PM me if you want me to fit it.
Oh really? I thought it was supposed to be a nightmare getting the correct type for your bottom bracket then actually getting it to play nice with the chain and everything after that, Ill definitely have a look into them now thanks.
Be careful as the Bafang mid motor does not fit in a lot of modern bottom brackets. Or at least that was the case when I fitted mine a good few years ago.
And how do you define a "beast"? Mine has the BBS02 motor, I have set the controller to the max amps and I use a 52V battery (fully charged 58.8V) and when fully charged the bike can do 62km/h in the air and a bit over 45km/h with me on it (I'm 100kg) on an old skool 26" dual suspension mountain bike, the BBSHD motor can do a tiny bit more again
If you want significantly more than that, you need to be looking at direct drive rear wheel motors and make yourself a motorbike that looks like a push bike 😂
I fitted two one on a Hybrid Trek and the second on a Raleigh racing bike, the Raleigh was a much lighter and quicker bike. measure the bottom bracket width I had no problem fittings both seems to be a standard size bottom bracket.
Damn I think I might just pull the trigger on this kit so, converting a 10 year old Trek hardtail with front suspension, thanks for that SCOL:

Before you 'pull the trigger'', the kit doesent come with battery so you will need to buy a large battery for the BBS03 (BBSHD) (30 amp max controller). The 750W BBS02 is 200euro cheaper and with the 25Amp controller may be easier/cheaper to get battery.
Also you need to choose a display. Best of luck.

Alright nevermind they seem fairly common and can be got in several places, yeah the BBS02 750w looks fine actually, just need a 48V battery for it now, can I be a total pain and ask for you to recommend a decent one from somewhere please?
You need to figure out where you are fitting the battery and how much room it needs. Anyhow, both pswpower and yosepower do 48V batteries of different capacities. A decent battery would be like below with Samsung cells and nearly 1000Wh capacity and costing nearly 300 euro. But would it fit in the frame as you may need extra room to slide it in/out?

Like the controller will just handle it as long as its a 48V battery going to a 48V kit? Im not very experienced with electrics as you can probably tell. Not worried about fit, its a standard MTB, it should be fine.
This may not the case and often some wiring is required. (The psw website doesn't show the motor power cable but shows two black/yellow connectors in the 'tools' photo that may need soldering or crimping). If you reverse the wiring, you will do damage. Also you need to be careful with connectors and not bend pins etc. Fitting these kits require a certain level of mechanical and electrical skill. The battery are often heavy (e.g. 5Kg) and need to be securely fitted. The bottom bracket needs to be removed and sometime the cavity has welds inside that needs to be cleaned up with a file. Handgrips need removing/refitting etc for fitting throttle/brake levers. Gear cable usually/often need rearrangement/re-routing. You need decent chain and cassette/sprocket to handle power. Indexing needs to be well set up.........Will you need help if you run into problems?

If you don't enjoy this sort of stuff, you'd be better with a complete wheel with built in motor, that is far easier to fit than a mid drive.
Also @Thargor - if you want a bit more oomph, the easiest and cheapest way is to go for a 52V battery over a 48V battery. It doesn't cost any more per kWh
That company I linked to will put whatever connector you want on the battery side, so just be explicit. They also seem to sell Bafang kit now, though it may be pricier than your link. I didn't get stung for additional VAT when I purchased my battery from them, but you should factor that in as a possibility, when buying from China or Hong Kong. Not advocating for it, but some of these sellers will use multihop delivery routes to make it look like original point of entry was in the EU.
I got the bafang motor and battery from pswpower in Germany. I bought the kit altogether everything was there I had to choose what battery I wanted. It's not that hard to put together all the plugs are colour coded and cable tied all the wires along the frame.
I have mine now about 3 years and have done well over 10,000 km with no problems. I use mine to commute to work.

Sorry for the stupid questions but theres literally no information on what connections that battery uses, do you think if I bought this kit and that battery they would be ready to connect up out of the box or do I need to request some kind of connector be put on them or order a connector myself or something like that?

Would you mind linking to exactly what you bought please? Also as per my question in the previous post, what connections were there between the motor and the battery when it arrived or did you have to do any soldering to make the connection?
