Alfie had more motive to kill Sophie than Bailey. Alfie didnt get on with Sophie and there had been disputes in the past regarding the gate and boundaries. These issues cause tempers to flare. Alfie also had a small time drug thing going on which annoyed Sophie.
In my opinion investigations should have focussed more on Alfie and Shirley - They seem to have been dismissed as suspects straight away which was negligent of the gardai. Both Alfie and Shirleys behaviour after the discovery of the body was also very odd.
Often the answer to a crime like this lies very close by.
Wasn’t Alfie supposed to have been ruled out on medical grounds? Weak lungs, or some such.
Gardai not seem to give Sean Murray's statement much credence.Never did. Could the tall man in the car be the man reportedly seen with Sophie Toscan du Plantier on the afternoon before her murder. if he stayed secretly at her home it may be why Josephine was not invited. Josephine found that unusual as Sophied would ususlly have gifts forJosephine's children
Also if he stayed in secret it would explain why he was not actually with sophie but seemed to be watching her i.e they did not want to be seen together
then you shouldn't claim a negative and it's not necessarily lazy journalism. 50 fractures from one blow?
The the block was used only once (maybe twice) as the 'coup de grace' other blows were by an unidentified weapon (poker/axe or stone)
From a report on the killing
'The autopsy revealed that du Plantier had 50 injuries. Her face had been battered with a concrete block and a rock. Her fingers were broken, presumably from trying to defend herself. She had apparently run through briars and encountered barbed wire, possibly in a bid to escape.'
"there had been disputes in the past regarding the gate and boundaries"
Says who?
unbelievable violence
25kgs is not a trivial mass. Try it. Above your head.
Also, what other weapon? There has nothing been found. A horrific crime.
Once with a block would be enough.
Dec. 22nd was Sunday, A walk on 3 castle head, a visit to Ungerer's, and tea in Crookhaven home early evening, as .recall
Wrong day anyway.
It is absolutely lazy journalism and inspired by Harbison`s comment that there was 50 fractures. One good blow to the head with an axe, poker or stick would cause multiple skull fractures. The block with force would crush the skull. Ten blows with that block would leave hundreds if not thousands of fractures. The recent Mirror article is also lazy journalism where a hack with access to Bailey goes into the file and tries to associate individuals who were initial suspects in early `97 with what was said at the recent Garda press conference. There are two lines of information in the article. One is a "garda source", but that is just a regurgitation of what was said at the press conference. The other line is "it is understood". That`s the hacks own speculation.
I'd say any garda tasked with monitoring this thread has lost the will to live at this stage.
When Sophie bought her property the Estate agent informed her the shed to the West of her house was hers.
Alfie bought his property after Sophie, and his solicitor did his job and the shed was actually belonged to Alfie.
Due to the different ground levels Alfie's shed and field to the West of Sophie's property are only accessible either along the back of Sophie's house, right by her back door or through the gate into the bottom of her lawn and up through the lawn.
The pink shaded and hatched areas were Alfie's property at the time. The Yellow line on the landregistry map below is Alfie's right of way to his house and does not extend to his shed and fields. The shed and part of the field around it transferred to Sophie's son Pierre (around 2016 I think) This is how I see it, I'm open to correction on any of this.
This might seem strange, but I don't think Alfie killed Sophie, but I think he took some information to the grave.
Edited to add;
the fact there is no yellow marked right of way on the map, does not mean there is no right of way.
There could be a right of way implied by long use.
Misrepresentation made by her estate agent is not a dispute with Alfie. Josephine Helen told Gardaí that Sophie and Alfie were friends.
Like I said, I don't think Alfie Killed her.
Does Josie Hellen know how Alfie felt about Sophie?
True once would be more than enough. I have lifted 25Kg any time I change the gas cylinder. From what I recall the other weapon wasn't recovered.
is this your attempt to prove you negative
Ten blows with that block would leave hundreds if not thousands of fractures
are you a medical person. i believe harbison before you
and you are a journalist too
But I have a fair idea who you think did it. The problem I have with your theory, apart from the fact that there is an abundance of evidence pointing to someone else, is that if Sophie was assaulted and killed after confronting someone down at the gate in daylight, then why is there blood on the back door? There is no way that someone who lost the head and killed Sophie in a moment of madness would afterwards calmly take a wander up to the house in daylight. Especially when they knew that Alfie or Shirley might be out and about. They`d be back out that lane like a bat out of hell. Why were the doors locked? Why was rigor mortis evident?
Have you ever read this piece of journalism?

The reason to walk back up to the house after the killing is because they actually lived up there. I think anyway.
You are right to believe Harbison but I don`t remember him putting a number on the blows.
That's because you were not allowed to read his report.
have you read his report? and what training have you to say one blow would cause 50 fractures. or to say what understood means to a journalist
you think you are the only one on this thread who has the real theory and real truth. i agree with a lot you say but you overdo your claimed knowledge
the thing is though the finger of suspicion is always going to be pointed at Bailey rather than Alfie. Baily comes across as a brash loud mouth drunk, universally disliked by nearly everyone. Alfie on the other hand comes across as a likeable rogue, an old hippy who likes noting more than to smoke his weed and get stoned, wouldnt harm a fly........or would he? watch out for the quite ones!
April, "the tall man seen with Sophie on the afternoon before her murder"
Was this the Sunday afternoon? where was this sighting? and by whom?
News to me this.
Elements of the report have made it into the public domain over the years and I`m pretty sure he said 50 fractures. That doesn`t mean 50 blows and the block further complicates that.
Fair enough so.
Ehhhhhh, okeydokey.
We'll leave it there so.
According to this and other media outlets it is 50 different 'wounds' or 'injuries', of varying severity, which includes cuts from briars.
Iirc I read somewhere else that one single blow from the block could have caused multiple different injuries.

A hollow block like that would probably split after 5 or 6 blows, especially if it was dropped. They're not very strong when a lateral force is applied.
