Just ordered a guinness nitro surge gift pk.
2 cans
Device
2 glasses
28 euro in supervalu click and collect. Cant find them on the shelf anywhere. Not paying 30 quid for device only.
That's how I got it. No chance I would pay €30 for just the device to enable me to buy more expensive cans for a difference in taste which I'm not fully convinced about yet.
That is not worth anywhere near €30 - ALL supermarkets hike up selected wines so that people think they are getting value.
In the UK that exact same bottle is standard price at £15 or less. Even allowing for extra duty & vat & exchange rate, it is circa €20.
Yeah most of the wine "offers" are semi-permanent. The wines are never worth their original price but can be decent value at the reduced price. Also Chateua neuf de pape is a region, not a wine. There's plenty of absolute rubbish from there just as plenty of Bordeaux is awful.
Doubt it is. According to Vivino the average price is €23. So good value at €15 👍🏻
Best thing to do is buy one bottle and do a tasting at home.
If it's to your liking job done it's a bargain.
If not try again.
Jaysus! I’m looking up prices on slabs of beer in all the main supermarkets and all I can see is either 20 pack bottles or 15 pack cans and quite pricy at that (I presume that’s the minimum pricing government introduced).
Whats the best approach here? Buy a couple of 15 packs or is it worth heading up north to get a couple of slabs? I was looking to get a slab of Guinness and a slab of carlsberg with a couple of bottles of DADA1 for herself.
15 cans of 4.3% beer, the MUP is €25.48, so that's as cheap as you can get it but all the supermarkets should have packs at that price give or take a few cents. MUP calculator here: https://www.irishwinereviews.ie/minimum-unit-pricing-calculator
it's probably not worth going up north just for a couple of slabs. For a boot-full of slabs maybe but do your research on what offers are on, whether you need a loyalty card and what beers are different strength in Norn Iron.
Not sure if this has been put up before in local Tesco today and they have Moet & Chandon for €30 reduced from €56 till 2/1/2023. Maybe of use to someone for New Years.
can't find these in blanch, dunboyne or ashtown. Has anyone seen them on an actual shelf in Dublin?
Did you ask at the desk? SV sometimes keep these behind the counter for some odd reason.
yes asked in all three shops - zilch. and they won't have stock again this side of xmas either
Just be careful with the Guinness slabs. This might sound banana's but some of the UK stuff even stuff tesco seem to have sourced from their UK distribution last Dec was brewed elsewhere it tasted absolutely gack. Extremely metallic taste off it. All well in date into this year but terrible product. Knew it was brewed elsewhere as the cans were stamped and ring pull at the top was different than typical irish factory stuff.
That would be my sole concern for Guinness cases at least.
All Guinness sold in the UK is brewed in Dublin.
I got a voicemail off supervalu saying that they had no nitros in stock.
You know I think the pubs are going to take a huge hit next year. €6.70 for a pint of Heineken.......All of a sudden the cans don't seem to bad a price.
You try tesco for nitrosurge? They have them online but my account is screwed up. Cant add anything to basket.
Yeh anywhere I go they are sold out. And they seem to be 30 quid a pop which is a bit much in my opinion.
Will have a look later when I'm down.
All the Guinness in draught cans is brewed in Dublin and shipped in tanks to Belfast or Runcorn for canning - Diageo use also use a sub packer in Hertfordshire for there busy occasions for non nitro cans such as rockshore and carlsberg.
The only two differences in the cans for the UK/NI markets is that they are 440 mls and the percentage is slightly lower than the 500ml can for the ROI market.
I'm surprised that Guinness have never released a slightly smaller glass for the 500ml cans. Doesn't sit right with me the way the glass is never full after pouring your can.
Saw these in world wide wines in Waterford over the weekend
Well where ever it's canned there was two different can runs marked different canners with two completely different 500ml cans. I.e the lid,lid opener and weight of the cans were different in tesco Last year within 2 week pallet batches.
The second lot with the non standard more cheaper looking ring pull was absolutely rubbish stuff. I had 3 cases of it bought and every single case they tasted rotten. I had a case still there from previous pallet earlier the month. Different ring pull different batch mark and tasted normal.
Who ever is canning them uses different stock cans/contents.
Tesco have the nitrosurge in stock. 30 quid. Nah. A little sticky for my liking. I'd pick up the gift pack even at 40 but not at the price just for the device.
Not trying to derail thread but I got the nitrosurge with 20 nitrosurge cans a few months back. In my opinion slightly better than widget can when you get nice dome head but taste is still nowhere near a good pub stout. Haven't used it since.
Using the nitro surge for the last year since it came out. Not as good as pub pints no, but a damn site better than the widget cans, so much so I find it hard to go back to them. Bearing in mind that I’d be having only 2 or 3 cans a night, I always buy the nitro surge cans now. Think Guinness should be doing them cheaper all the same, giving the production costs should be lower that there is no widget required
The device is currently €20 in Dunnes, and effectively cheaper again when you buy with a spend & save voucher.
2or 3 a night!!!! As in every night??
This is the booze deal thread. Would those who want to discuss Guinness in all its variants get their own thread, please.
I’d have two cans at home most nights yea (I don’t get out much anymore!)
O Haras Nitro stout is €9 for 4 cans currently in Super Valu. Cheapest I’ve seen it, it’s usually €3 a can. A really nice stout.
Dunnes have 500ml bottles of Budvar for €2 this week for those you like Czech beers
