If players decide to spread-eagle themselves / make themselves big in front of you in the pitch as you are running towards them, having knocked the ball beyond them then it's a foul. Why should you have to change your course because they have decided to obstruct you?

I don't think you should get a penalty for kicking the ball around somebody and running into them. I thought Alvarez initiated the contact, the keeper can't make himself disappear. It's not like he was in possession either, he took his shot and missed, just a football collision. Not all contact is a foul.
That's 4 penalties Argentina have gotten in this world cup, all ranging from soft to highly dubious.
Agreed, I thought it was very noticeable for the 2nd Alvarez goal that the keeper doesn't spread himself at all and actually turns away in the end so that he doesn't do the same thing that gave away the penalty. If he had spread himself I think he saves the shot but risks the foul again. No win situation for him.

Saying Alvarez initiated the contact here is a giant reach
you knock the ball by someone and get taken out, that’s always a foul. People just engaging in mental gymnastics coz it happened in the box in a World Cup semi. Normally it’s just a penalty coz of a clear foul and you move on.
Penalty ? ....... not for me
I would say that that shouldn't have been a penalty either.
I'm not accusing him of anything, but he's the one running at full pelt not the goalkeeper who just plants his right leg after trying to make the spread-save. I just don't see how that can be a foul.
ok, I’m not going to go on about it. I think the evidence is clear. When a penalty is awarded in a big game there’s always going to be some with an issue. Have a good day.
An absolute stonewall penalty.
I didn't think it was a penalty but considering some of the ridiculous penalties given so far they were always going to give it
I like Murph and all but he really needs to stop interrupting Ken's stream of consciousness. Ken dropped a banger of a line '69...nice' only for it to be immediately drowned out by Murph.
Auclair was a hard listen, ranting on about how poor international football is, how bad the world cup has been and how awful Argentina are.
Would absolutely love it if Argentina hammer them Sunday evening.
Anyone else finding all these snatches of foreign WC commentary a bit tiresome? Unless they're doing something like
I don't see the point...
Murph made that French embassy story so boring to listen to. I kept thinking of the gold Ken would have spun out of such raw materials.
After a couple of minutes of it, I had to skip over the rest. As I've been doing for the last week or so, for the few minutes of bantz before Ken comes in at the start of each WC pod.
Oh forgot to mention that Ken was on Prime Time last night.
I think that is the problem, he tries to be like Ken too much and produce witty anecdotes but they usually turn into boring ramblings
Its not been a good World Cup for Murph
I was thinking along the same lines as Eoin as soon as Murph mentioned being at an ambassador's party
It's the tone in his voice that you can tell he thinks he's being a rapier wit. It really grates.
This constant Murph bashing is getting tiresome, he has his faults but it feels like the man can't open his mouth at this stage without being criticised
Yeah, think ill start a thread that complains about the amount of murph complaints on this thread.
I'm the opposite, after 3 weeks of how amazing Messi is and how you must not be a football fan if you aren't supporting him I want Argentina to lose
No offence to France but I’m pro Argentina with bells on
I don't like either tbh, but I'll go for France
The gol gol gol stuff quite literally drives me to the point of rage. Instant forward when I hear that sh*t starting
Agreed. After all the horrible things that have gone down to help make this world cup happen, there's nothing that FIFA and Qatar want more than for Argentina to win this. And in doing so they hope the legend of the Messi world cup will help wash away all the bad stuff. C'mon France
Oh God BBC at it now
And we had McDevitt lamenting how low scoring World cup finals have been
Great final in fairness to cap off what has been a great world cup.
The BBC build up was brilliant they had Tim Vickery and Marcela Mora Araujo doing segments on Argentina. Miles ahead of the negativity of the RTE panel
