As the title says, this is a new thread for chat about Dun Laoghaire in general without the traffic & transport nonsense.
Enjoy.
They are gritting. And even gave a fancy map

That sums up DLRCoCo. A 13 page document and an interactive map, all very sleek and professional, but no one actually putting grit on the roads.
plenty of talk, but very little action.
They're probably getting the salt they bought after the beast from the east out of storage first.
What are you on about I passed several trucks earlier
Probably an appropriate place for the Roger Casement statue...
A bit?
The dedication plaque should pay tribute to the designer for a magnificent erection.
Shame they were 24 hours too late.
not a single piece of grit on the roads between Dun Laoghaire and the Druids by midday Friday. Miracle there wasn’t an accident.
aaahhh, so that’s why they’ve made a balls of the baths.
they are actually a load of bollocks.
Looking forward to a good overhead shot on a rough day with the flotsam flowing from the tip
I'm not too sure if that pier at the baths is happy to see me. You could almost say it will soon be teaming with seamen, eh? 🤣
I heard Mary Hanafin blatherin' on yesterday about the need for a complex planning application (Part 8 for those that have an interest) to include the pool / baths in the next phase. Apart for MH's usual horse sh*te I don't really see a need for a pool, when access to the sea is so good from the jetty and steps.
No doubt given DLRCC's usual incompetence it would take at least 20 years and come in 20 times over budget.
Part 8s are about as complex as washing your car.
Its a procedure. Follow it and nobody gets sidelined.
I hadn't realised that a Pool was engineered into the lower concourse. In effect it already exists under the slab. Why they didn't carry out a Part 8 consultation on the pool element during the LONNNNGGGG construction period and have done with the whole thing at once, is a mystery known to only those that can interpret the endlessly bizarre behaviour of the Executive staff of DLRCC.
Heated water, calm water. Not everyone wants to bounced around in open water.
Why would they need part 8 for infrastructure that has existed since Victorian times ? ( genuine question)
The Blue pool in Monkstown sounds like it might fit that bill? Not too far away either.
I think that a few noses were put out of joint in the council executive by the pressure to develop it as a public amenity?
salt water pools are far better for you. And would get a lot more people than the die hard sea swimmers. More inclusive and encouraging for people of all ages
A local authority developing a municipal facility? Heaven forfend.
Maybe. But the ones who were shilling a commercial co-project for the Baths site 15 or 20 years ago are all long gone.
The current officials should have seen the inevitability of finishing out the plan.
Its not that simple.
Say you upgrade a road. There has always been a road there, but when you're finished it won't look anything like what was there before and all the impacts and consequences of newly engineered and built works have to be assessed in a Part 8.
Same for the Baths. The old pool was derelict and decrepit, it was never going to be a case of replacing like with like. The new works on the foreshore would need comprehensive approval.
Waterford Whispers take on the 'Baths'
Sums it up nicely!
How about getting a move on with swim pool at Glen Albyn, Stillorgan and sorely missed facility even though it was a very primitive set up?
This particular Councillor has a history of undignified exchanges and hectoring aggressive behaviour both online and in person.
He wasn't even elected, he's a co-opt. I don't know what got into his head, but he should resign.
Cant say I have any in person experience of him but he does come across as unnecessarily aggressive at times online. God knows what he was thinking with that tweet.
He won't resign either.
Not his first time either:

Unsurprisingly he's made his twitter account private
He must really be getting some stick over it. I had a look at the weekend and he seemed to be weathering the storm, but perhaps not.
Which in itself is kinda pointless, because he already blocked every sinner who ever dissented from his personal World view ages ago.
Happy Christmas everyone, I couldn't think what to get you, but I know you love pedestrianisation consultations.
