Additional greening along the route – Option for a tree lined median where achievable.
It is envisaged that the Strategic Assessment Report (SAR) will be lodged with the NTA for approval in Q4 2022, approval will also be required from the Department of Public Expenditure & Reform as the project is estimated to be above €100m.... It is envisaged that the Permanent Liffey Corridor Project will be delivered on site post 2027 as part of the overall Active Travel Network plan.
Interim Liffey Cycle Route
Interim Cycling measures have been installed at a number of sections along the Liffey Corridor between Heuston Station and O’Connell Bridge. Further interim measures are proposed along:
Eden Quay (0.25km section) from O’ Connell Bridge to Butt Bridge/Beresford Place. Installation works are proposed to commence in Nov/ Dec 2022.
Georges's Quay, Burgh Quay, Aston Quay and Crampton Quay ( 0.8km) from Talbot Memorial Bridge to Ha’penny Bridge. Installation works are proposed for Q1 2023

Ah mostly just the cost (100+ million) to develop a 3km stretch, and some undisclosed post 2027 delivery date, and not even consideration if a trial removal of cars along the narrow sections.
Ide assume most of the 100m is the new boardwalk but honestly I don't have a clue how much these normally cost.
The photos look like cars will be 2 lane is that not the same as now ?
Real pity it's gonna take so long though.

Mayo CoCo have a consultation on the Great Western Greenway through Newport.
Maybe this is just to tick a box but I would have thought it would be a no-brainer to use the viaduct. It is a landmark feature in the town and would give great views from it. It would be a fantastic addition to the Greenway and make the journey even more memorable.
I saw something about this on TV recently, seemingly it was always what everyone wanted but the land access wasn't straightforward so it was kicked down the road. I'd imagine local business will want reassurance that it will be easy for cyclists passing through to stop in local shops and pubs.
The cynic in me is too used to thinking all shops hate cyclists for destroying business (until proven wrong 😜)
Depends what those businesses are selling. Cafes, delis and grocery stores, great. Bike shops obvs. Other places, not so much business to be squeezed out of that demographic.
Hopefully the last Christmas without a walk on Midleton/ Youghal Greenway on Christmas Day/ Stephen’s Day. The railway trails are more beautiful in Winter than Summer.
The Athlone bridge I understand is aiming for opening April next year.
Is the next phase of the Galway route going to open in stages or 1 big bang? Would be great to get it a few more km west of athlone done. The rest of the way will likely be sparsely used upto commuting distance of the city.
The rest of the route hasn't been published or agreed on yet, so very difficult to say. Would be great to see them work on "easier" sections as soon as possible, rather than hold up the whole route.
Can anyone here provide a best guess of cost per km of Greenway development in Ireland?
I know every project is different, but any rough indication would be great...
This report puts the cost of the Barrow Blueway at €6.75 million for 46kms.
It'll be interesting to see if that's the final figure, it's a significant bit of infrastructure for that money if it works out to be that cost
Nearly €147,000 per km. I’d be interested to know if they used the opportunity to do some additional work like pipe-laying, or if that was just the cost of the Blueway itself.

As far as I could see the only "extra work" that was done was that Waterways Ireland dredged and cleaned a significant length of the canal itself just before the towpaths being improved, a (unfortunately not too) common sense thing to do.
It's being used now , but I'm not sure where it's being accessed from , there's fairly substantial fencing through the train station , the sports pitches and along the distillery,
But yeah ,the sooner the better , although with the speed that its progressing on the youghal side , it could well be more than another year ..
Would I be right in saying the Midleton to Mogeely section is pretty much fully completed? We might see a partial opening whilst they complete the Youghal side.

Someone else will have to fill you in on closer to Dublin, but it's closed east of Sallins for works,west of Sallins is passable on a gravel bike or MTB as far as Edenderry some bits better than others but wet grass is the worst you'll encounter. West of Edenderry as far as Pullough is complete, road bike friendly, Pullough to the Shannon I'm not sure.

Well it was completely overgrown for many decades , I think the line was last used in the 80s ,but chances are the turnatable was derelict overgrown ,and possibly buried for decades by then .
The gas thing is , it was right at the end of the rail yard ..almost has the road on 3 sides of it ..
