The journals were more like Filofaxes ( remember them?) with appointments, phone numbers etc. It wasn’t missing as such, just not made available to the French investigators. The diaries made no reference to Bailey or any appointments on her visit. The Gardai were ‘selective’ on what they handed to the French!
A strange thought here but it is possible whoever did this has been on this forum or at least reading it?
Fair cop garda.
There were pages torn out of the Garda records of the early interviews taken early on in the investigation hadn’t heard anything ably private journals or diaries missing.
Just out of curiosity, does anybody know if this cold case review has a deadline date to report back any findings etc..??
I assume it's not just left on the back burner in a never ending loop so to speak..?
Also, will the finding (if any), be made public?
I believe it is to report back early next year. I'm not sure about findings it is hoped to find a killer or eliminate a suspect or suspects?
Realistically, I doubt they will be dragging somebody from their bed and charging them with murder at this stage...
But it would be interesting to see if they have gained anything new since the original investigation.
I assume the findings will be made public - after all, our tax money is paying for it?
I don’t think so, as it’s a murder investigation and not a public inquiry. I wonder how much the review will cost compared to the cost to the tax payer from Ian Bailey’s various court cases.
Unlikely to be much revealed in public if there are operational reasons to keep it from public view.
Of course the tax payer did not have to pay for the incompetent Gardai and their decades long wild goose chase?
I believe that there are still persons who have information on Sophie’s murder and who haven’t yet spoken to gardaí – or may have spoken to gardaí but were not in a position to tell everything that they know – I am appealing to those persons, 26 years later, to please come forward and speak to the investigation team.
Interesting choice of words there
All of Ian Bailey’s actions were unsuccessful, to the very significant cost of the tax payer.
"I want to speak with any person who was in the Toormore area of Co Cork between 20 December and 23 December 1996, in particular anyone who was driving on the R591 or R592". Superintendent Joe Moore of Bantry Garda Station
Wonder what is connection to R591 or R592 ? Edit: I see they both go towards Toormore
Anyone driving those road between 20 DEc and 23 Dec is sought. wonder is there evidence of someone unusual having been in the area over a period?
Well that's hinting at a local suspect anyhow not a foreign national
Is it aimed at Jules or her children?
Or does the wording suggest a 'hippie type' scenario..?
Was there a motor home / caravan / pimped up tranny van staying overnight in the area?
Could the 'visitor' been in the area looking to buy drugs??
Would the 'dealer' if he was local, mention that he had a customer calling to him recently?? Or would he leave that can of worms well and truly shut tight...??
Not necessarily pointing at a local, I’d say. They are the 2 main routes out of Toormore.
591 heads towards N71 North and Bantry and from there anywhere, Limerick, Galway, Dublin.
592 heads towards N71 East and Ballydehob and from there Skib, Clon, Cork, Dublin.
Anyone coming into Toormore/Kealfada area would have to use one of these routes.
Is there a new development?
'Superintendent Joseph Moore from Bantry Garda Station told The Journal that new witnesses have come forward in Ireland, France and the UK since the cold case review began in June, alongside additional witnesses that have been identified by Gardaí. He said that Gardaí still needed to interview new witnesses in France.'
Was the killer looking for drugs that night and got the 'bums' rush?
could be hinting at hitman scenario, someone getting to know the area over a few days. Either someone local driving regularly or a stranger sussing out the lay of the land
from who? sophie would not have had drugs.
often wondered about hippies especially with her bath having been used. maybe they came to bathe
Shirley Foster said there was a caravan somewhere along the lane.
Doubt it. I think they don't believe in it?
I know perhaps they had the wrong address?
Indo says The film executive was savagely beaten to death as she fled a suspected intruder at her home on December 23 1996
The film executive was savagely beaten to death as she fled a suspected intruder at her home on December 23 1996
Intruder at her home infers the person was in the house. Always they said the person was not in the house no signs
There was said to be no evidence of another person visiting. That doesn't mean that there was nobody there perhaps cleaned up afterwards or wore gloves? Also it was mentioned that items might have gone missing (wine bottle, diary and axe/poker)
do you have a link to that? Don't recall it
Could be the gardai upping the anti too
Can't always take their media statements at face value
it says as she fled suspected intruder
[Det Supt McTiernan ] added that his review – which will be conducted under 13 terms of reference – will deliver "meaningful and salient recommendations" on the huge murder file which extends far beyond 5,000 statements and pieces of evidence.
Wasn’t there a smudge of blood on the door, possibly where the murderer closed it?
