That is just from flicking through the last few dozen Tweets. I don't actively follow him, but I think he's been very consistent in these calls from the start of the war. As a high profile journalist, I would say that he's been an important part in shifting the discourse in favour of Germany providing more weapons to Ukraine.

Well first, you have the ordinary conscript starting to dig their heels in and if not actually running back home, at least refusing to fight. Then you have the Wagner criminal corps, who in one or two instances, have gone AWOL, and armed to the teeth at that, and so causing havoc to Ukrainians and Russian army alike. South of Bakhmut is nothing but sloppy mud, blood and guts. Russian army making daily gains only to be pounded back, remember its easier to defend than go on the offensive. All the talk about the Wagner group of mercenaries, who at this stage are nearing 11 months of action, their job is to hold the 2nd line of defence and shoot defectors. If you are a recent Wagner recruit its straight to the front line with the other poor sods.
I'm just wondering in regards Wagner, will they always just have a steady stream of men coming to them. I mean I know they might be running out of convicts in Russia but then they went to Syria, Libya and some other African countries. They could just recruit from more African countries and Middle Eastern countries and maybe further afield in Asian countries or will it just stop with the constant flow with them eventually?
11 months of action even Mercenary's need rest at this stage they must be using drugs that will only be a benefit for so long. Problem with Mercenary's they value their own lives they are not fighting for a cause. At the moment they are filling their boots with murder rape and pillage. Not being crass there. Once they start receiving replacement gear of rusty AK's they will call it. I mean even if the russians are giving them good kit it will run out. I reckon once winter hits hard they will drop and leave. It's not like desert fighting only cold at night. Cold is far more demoralizing than heat. Especially if you know the lads you are fighting are warm and fed.

Russia is well able to fight a war in winter, it's Russia ffs, half the country is permafrost. They know how to deal with the cold
They are in runners and summer uniforms from the videos. They were not banking on it taking this long. Ukraine are well prepared and have proper winter combat uniforms. Also heated spaces even saunas in some. Soviets may had winter gear russia does not.
The weather around Bakhmut is supposed to stay warmish during the day by Ukrainian winter standards and not too cold at night for the next 10 day's. So expect them to keep throwing everything at this city.
Hopefully come December 20th it's still in Ukraines hand. Hopefully there's a severe cold spell before the year's end to stop the waves of Russians.

I cannot see foreign mercenaries coming to fight in this war in wintertime. African and Middle Eastern fighters would not be used to cold weather fighting. They would basically be cannon fodder. Experienced fighters will know there skillset and and that are aware if there skillset will stay well away from this.
If Wagner cannot recruit within the Russian republic's it's unlikely they will recruit elsewhere. At this stage IMO they have managed to recruit what they can. Now it's basically down to how much of a draft that Putin is willing to go with and how much the Russian people will accept.
But drafted untrained soldiers will not win a war for you.
I think we can discount the Russian people having any influence on which way this war goes.
They have proven to be utter cowards all the way through.
