The key elements include six high speed charging hubs on motorways capable of charging eight vehicles simultaneously; 16 high speed charging hubs capable of charging four vehicles simultaneously; additional high power chargers at 34 current 50 kW locations; upgrading over 50 22 kW chargers to 50 kW, and replacing up to 264 locations with 528 charge points at the pre-existing pilot grade of 22 kW to next generation high reliability models.
They really should be placing the 50kW unit at the middle rear of a single space. They're long past being usable by 2 cars properly charging. The best thing to do with the AC socket on them is to disable it permanently.
Maxol in Belfast charging 50p PER MINUTE overstay at their new hub. Take note eCars.
Same as tesla, per minute idle fee.
I don't know Unkel. He had an ID4 and was parked at the 150kw charger but had chosen to run a lead across to the 22kw charger. I'm not sure why he just didn't plug into the 150kw charger when he was parked at it?
That's how it should be done
When does it kick in? Is it after a fixed time or when the car is charged.
If it's after a fixed time period then I wonder will it be on top of the kWh price if the car is still charging
It would certainly discourage drivers just taking the hit on the overstay fee if they were double charged
EasyGo too, to be fair to them
Hopefully after the car has stopped charging, like Tesla. I also approve of how the Tesla overstay fee doubles to €1 per minute if the supercharger site is at 100% capacity (no free spaces). It encourages people to move on quickly once they're done.
It might be a lesson learnt. Longer cables get damaged. Let’s see if they are that length next year
fixed time, 45 mins.
In the early days (free charging years) cable damage was the number 1 cause of the fast chargers being out of action, as the cables were being replaced they were replaced with shorter ones, eCars seem to have perpetuated with the short cables.
This is the problem, people dont see value in something if its free.
Probably down to bad charger design as well. For example a lot of chargers now have something to hold the cable off the ground
Seen a fair number of plugs getting damaged as well because they weren't put away properly and fell on the ground
Maybe they didn't actually know how to charge it on css.
I was checking single charger, the only one on my way home & it was showing occupied for the last 1.5hrs so I thought surely they will be gone when I get there.
30 mins later I got there & the the charger was still occupied.
Brand new id3 charging on the AC ffs.
I pulled up alongside but its not possible to connect to the css because of the parking & the woman said she had nearly enough but she needed to fill up for her trip home the next day 200 miles.
I was very nice& said you are using the slow AC, she said the was no other way she could charge as tyke other chargers didn't fit. Jaysus. She didn't even know how to take the covers off the charging port. I showed her what to do but I was scrathing my head at the complete lack of knowledge
Sadly I don’t think dealers do enough explanation of EV car charging functionality. I’ve had to help 3 people stuck at ESB chargers over the last year because they couldn’t connect the car.
Yeah, I've helped out a couple of people I found wandering around their AC-only hybrids with a CCS connector in hand looking puzzled.
Dose. Got a job done on the car & would have had to spend 20 mins on traffic to get to a stop called hub that wasn't the direction I'm going to ended up at a spof which had an old leaf sitting on it for 40 mins & no room to even get on the ac.
The leafs 3 blue lights were flashing for ages so I reckon they were going to 100
Manufacturers should include some kind of manual with the car that people can read so they know which type of charger to use.
Even the dealers could make up a very simple A4 explainer sheet and leave it on the back seat when customers come to collect…..
Will all future eCars sites be 50 kW CCS? I see planning has been approved for one at a petrol station that would be useful for me if it was a 50, but I can't see any details from the planning apart from being 4 bays and 2 units.
4 bays and 2 units means it’ll probably be similar to the site in Tuam with 2x 200kW units with 4x CCS & 4x CHAdeMO plugs…
eCars said a while back they aren’t installing any new AC charge points…
what’s the garage?
Inver just outside Slieverue, South Kilkenny. Will also be handy for anyone taking the bypass around Waterford. Planning permission is approved. I spotted it on Plugshare.

That’s the one I’m waiting for (or the Circle K/Applegreen ones waiting to be connected on the M9….)
that planning has been there a while!!! Any sign of any ground works?
I didn't see any when I was passing yesterday but the weather was so bad at the time they could have had a king-sized bouncy castle on the forecourt and I wouldn't have seen it.
Could be 2x 50kW as well, Ecars have a site like that in Galway IIRC
You missed bouncy castle Monday!? 😂
That would be eCars logic in fairness….. 4 spaces and only 2 cars can DC charge….
The trick with Ecars is to expect disappointment and you'll never be disappointed
eCars: Challenge accepted!
The chargers themselves can have a 6 month or one year lead time after ordering so after planning is granted, possible grid upgrades etc it can easily take a year particularly for ecars.
