Seeing as Elton has now rescheduled his Dublin gigs, might be useful to start a 2023 thread as others might start popping up.
The Commitments - 7th - 19th February (Olympia Theatre)
Elton John - 28th/29th March (3Arena)
GIAF have gone for the Christmas gift market before. By December 1, 2019, I had already bought tickets for the Pixies' and Sinead O'Connor's July 2020 Big Top gigs.
There's no sign of any announcements yet but they might still happen.
Yeah that was probably partly due to covid I'd reckon. Might be out a bit earlier this time but probably next year at the earliest.
Almost all of the 2022 Big Top gigs were announced in Nov/Dec 2019 as they were rescheduled from 2020. That includes the Pixies, The Stunning, The Academic, Sinead O'Connor (later cancelled), The Flaming Lips and John Hopkins.
The Kaiser Chiefs was also originally a 2020 gig and was announced in March 2020.
I don't think anything was announced last May? I think the only 2022 Big Top gig that was actually announced in 2022 itself was The Frames, but that was very last minute when they took the Kaiser Chiefs' slot.
**** Electric Picnic, the bane of my **** concert going life for years with bands going to that festival rather than doing individual gigs.
More money in festivals for bands
Chris Brown is playing the 3Arena on February 12.
Don't know the financials, but in smaller countries like ours they tend to be bad for music fans.
Yeah but for mid level bands they mix and match festivals and headline shows on an Album run. So they might do the Olympia/vicar one year and then do ATN/EP the following summer or trinity/iveagh one year and festivals the next time in ireland. They need to mix and match it
Steel Panther. Vicar st. May 28
Sea sessions headliners: Kasabian, Becky Hill and the Coronas
Kasabian playing St John's Castle in June too
Cork and Belfast on there too.
Mispost!
Is it the original lineup again or is the Bass player still gone
Lexi's gone and been replaced.
Bass player left in 2021 and hasn’t returned
A lot of artists seem to be skipping the indoor touring and just trying to squeeze as much as they can into the summer because it’s the safest period in terms of Covid.
June is jam packed but apart from that things are pretty sparse.
I wonder also if there's less need for insurance etc if you can't fill your slot at a festival, do other acts play a longer set to cover?
Whereas if you have to cancel as the headliner of your own gig it's a different story in terms of costs.
Or maybe I'm over thinking it.
insurance does not come back into it. Band gets a guarantee fee if they play a show or festival. No show no fee
Got my ticket for Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Park.
€49.90 (excluding fees) is a great price for that triple bill.
Three Galway Big Top gigs just announced with tickets going on sale this Friday:
None that I'd be rushing to see but it's good to see reasonable prices. I know there was a lot of disquiet at having to pay €70 for the Frames last year.
And us only talking about it here, good timing! :) Hopefully Forbidden Fruit line up will be out soon
Wouldn't be surprised for a Noel Gallagher show announced in the next few weeks for July/August
Nah Noel playing EP apparently
Surely Kaiser Chiefs at Roisin Dubh is an error?
Any other EP rumours?
Yes, it is an error. Roisin Dubh is the local promotor for all the Big Top shows and that screenshot is taken from their site. Someone ticked the wrong option when posting it, I guess.
Where did you hear about Noel doing EP?
That would kinda sum up the EP line up tbh :P. Beyond the Pale is looking decent.
Bell X1 playing Marquee on Saturday 10th June.
