Wayne Pivac has been sacked and Warren Gatland reappointed as Wales head coach.
I was thinking if he did get sacked and was unhappy about it he could join up with his old pal Cheika in Argentina!
Pivac out - Gatland returns.
I wonder if this news will keep Eddie Jones in the job.
only a half hour late venjur... are you a dublin bus driver?
Will be interesting to see how Gatland gets on with a far inferior squad than he had last time around. Can see him trying to get the band back together and wheel out all the veterans for one more go next year, but after that a massive rebuild will be needed and there's no obvious sign that they have anywhere near enough of the quality of younger players required coming through.
Gatlands contract is until the 2027 World Cup. Lots of scope to develop the team. Or mess it up further, which is a very Welsh rugby right now.
4 Year Contract??
Christ that is so mind-bogglingly short sighted.
You'd have to hope that someone at least had the intelligence to put in a post WC23 review break clause.
The scroll up function on my mouse wheel is broken. Also - feck off.
This is one of those things I feel is only either going to be brilliant or terrible. No middle ground. Gatland either retires a hero or warrenballs long enough to become the villain.
Changes the context of round one of the six nations for us. His first game back in charge will be at home to us and there has always been plenty of animosity between Gatland's Welsh teams and Ireland.
The rte report is saying his contract is till thr 2023 world cup with all else as a possibility.

He will take charge of Wales for next year’s Six Nations and World Cup, with the WRU open to the possibility of him remaining in charge until the 2027 World Cup in Australia.
The BBC article seems to be treating 2027 as an option. Next few years with the ability to go the next world cup (which would be beyond the next few years).
"It is for this reason that we are particularly pleased to have been able to secure Warren's services for the next few years with the ability to go to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Anyone with an ounce of objectivity can see the welsh squad needs rebuilding, taking a short term contract would be bad news because wales have been putting off the inevitable pain involved in rebuilding for some time now.
Gats needs to made some appearance in france next year, and then be allowed to build for 2027, and its going to take time because very little is coming through.
Both coaches were originally contracted to 2023. Looks like an expensive signing.
Can't help but see that as a short-sighted backward step.
I think the idea is Gatland becomes a director of rugby post WC, with a new head coach appointed. Possibly a similar-ish role to Nucifora.
If that's the plan then at least that's moving in the right direction.
Welsh Rugbys problems are deeply systemic , a new head coach isn't the solution.
Yup. Its a classic Welsh move really, but its a reach to the past when they need to accept those times are gone. He doesn't have the players to play the game he wants and it will be a massive clusterfuck I think.
Up yours Synd / Clegg.
Bulls now officially reporting that he's been found https://bullsrugby.co.za/vodacom-bulls-happy-to-be-united-with-nkosi/
It said it in the article you posted that the Bulls were denying it.
Their official twitter page has since tweeted that he’s been found
I didn't look much beyond the heading as was in the office... whole thing seems pretty random
Be mental if Robertson ends up with Australia, instead of Foster getting the sack. Borthwick seems like an excellent couch, good bit of business for England.
Yeah, hopefully he is ok because it’s a very very odd situation.
Borthwick seems like an excellent couch
Yeah he's done well with Leicester sofa
Seems people are convinced Jones is gone but still nothing official. Either way - plot is getting THICK

The settee piece has improved greatly
I'd much rather face a Jones England than a Borthwick England and thats probably where the RFU are in their heads. 10 months is plenty to plan for a RWC. The question is do they have the quality to turn it around by then.
I hear at lot of his communication is couched in jargon, tho.
Apparently Gatland will review the assistant coaches Stephen Jones, Jonathan Humphreys, Gethin Jenkins and Neil Jenkins before making any decisions regarding their contract.
I wonder if Gatland will want to bring in his own team.
Wales online is reporting that Gatland will be on a salary of 580K a year. Apparently the WRU is paying out the rest of Pivac's contract and a release fee to the Chiefs for Gatland. Thats going to be steep and if Gatland wants to build his own coaching team it could involve paying off the existing coaches.
