The bitter cold air makes the colours of sky and ocean more intense,, When i go out for turf I am beguiled by the breathtaking blue dazzle to the north .. Just.. spectacular... and very distinctive. Every detail of shore bright and clear.

Well you are in the best place to get the most snow. I remember our competition from 2010. We won't get to renew it this time it looks like, but as you mention with a few kinks and warms seas a few suprises might pop up. Also, further on into next week if there is a breakdown attempt after several days of freezing conditions we could possibly see a good snow event at some point.

I must say I thought it would feel colder today. Its 7C in my part of Dublin and the breeze is light, so not too bad. I certainly wouldn't stand around outside in it, but I can handle anything that isn't squally rain.

That wind-chill is definitely dropping the temp. Supposed to be 7 degrees but I'd say it feels closer to 1-2 degrees. Hopefully it's not too windy when the air temperature actually drops.

We will acclimatise. It has been so mild until now. So this comes as a shock! Extra jerseys.... Warm clothes...

It has clouded over heavily now. And not a whisper of wind.. I have lagged my gas bottle and pipe... Learned that the hard way. Real frost weather and just checked met.ie..

The outlook is a bit meh imo

Very cold but not cold enough for lowland snow. Nights look icy where roads are wet. In general within the reliable it looks very dry yawnfest etc...

Of course always potential that things could upgrade at short notice. As ever more runs needed

A couple of years ago i was on my way to Carrick On Shannon, when about 10 miles from Carrick' there was a diversion. I ended up going on very narrow country roads with some great valleys and hills. I would never have known of this great scenery but for the diversion. Dazler you will see snow this week, you are in an ideal location for it.

We need a long fetch easterly or northeasterly for snow once there is decent cold to tap into and unfortunately the upcoming cold spell is a typical dry northerly. We've had easterly winds for the past 2 days but unfortunately there is no cold air this time as the fetch isn't long enough and the continent is just cooling down now after a very warm 12+ months. If we had started this cold spell with a dry northerly dragging down much colder air initially and then switch to an easterly based wind then maybe we could have had some decent potential.

The only hope we have for snow now is that the cold stays with us for the next 10+ days and that those lows will try and cut into the cold dumping snow but usually these fronts either miss us completely or go too far north and we end up with cold rain. Will keep an eye on the models to see if we can see an opportunity crop up from later next week.

UK Met very firmly giving clear and sunny, with icy nights for the majority of Ireland up to and past the weekend, with any wintry falls restricted to the hills of the North and Northwest. Some coastal rain showers also possible from weak embedded troughs.

They are also just about mentioning the Mid-atlantic Low and potential to mix with the cold air mass, in a Storm Emma-esque scenario, 9 days out, but too many variables to be worth focusing on it yet.
